This article aims to study the presence of women in Leïla Slimani’s work, and to analyze the subjects that are related to women’s identity in her work. In her two first novels and in her latest testimony book, Leïla Slimani seems to be very interested in the image of women and in the role that they play in our society. The sex addiction of Adèle in Dans le jardin de l’ogre (2014), the image of the mother and the babysitter in Chanson douce (2016), and the testimony of women in Sexe et mensonges: la vie sexuelle au Maroc (2017c), show the point of view of Slimani about contemporary women in her work. This will study different subjects such as sexuality, maternity, family, violence, power and religion, emphasising the importance of the construction of women’s identity in the contemporary society.

This paper deals with the principle of tolerance in our contemporary society in the attempt to highlight limits and paradoxes in the various aspects of minority issues. From this point of view, the first part of the paper discusses Kymlicka’s contribution to multiculturalism with regard to national minorities and immigrant communities, while the second part confronts his Theory of Minority Rights with Antonio Gramsci’s theory of hegemony and circle of humanity. Therefore, this paper aims at shifting the discourse over tolerance-related minority issues from a top-down approach toward an analysis of how tolerance is allowed to be performed. Thus, Gramsci’s philosophy of praxis is employed to disentangle moral and cultural set of values and norms within which both principle of tolerance and performativity of toleration are established and, in parallel, to reflect on reasons why others are not allowed to be performed.

On Wednesday February 25th 1976, a Joint Committee of both Houses of the English Parliament was set up to consider the whole matter of intra-familial violence. This development is, it is suggested, of very considerable significance because it marks, really for the first time, an official awareness of the phenomenon of violence in the family. Clearly, certain aspects of the matter have received parliamentary attention, but this is the first time in jurisdictions analogous to Australia that a total overview of the matter has been attempted. Accordingly, it is the purpose of this article to consider the problem from an Australian point of view and to suggest policies which might adequately protect the victims of such violence.

We develop the point of view where quantum mechanics results from the interplay between the quantized number of ‘modalities’ accessible to a quantum system, and the continuum of ‘contexts’ that are required to define these modalities. We point out the specific roles of ‘extracontextuality’ and ‘extravalence’ of modalities, and relate them to the Kochen–Specker and Gleason theorems. This article is part of a discussion meeting issue ‘Foundations of quantum mechanics and their impact on contemporary society’.

It is concluded that Policosanol is a medicament of natural origin that could be proposed as candidate to be used for a healthy aging, based on the results of various investigations in experimental models and data obtained from different clinical trials.

ABSTRACT This text starts from the point of view that intellectuals incorporate criticism to journalism when analyzing the contemporary society. It is exactly by a neologism of a « sub-psychodrama » that the playwright and French director Jean-Luc Lagarce (1957-1995) defined one of his plays. The similarities between psychodramatic practices and Lagarce's dramatic works are obvious. As in the context of psychodramatic practice, Lagarce's characters take on roles and identify with them from a carnal as well as linguistic point of view. The situation in which Lagarce's characters meet is very close to that which is, among others, treated by psychodramatists: the dialogue is not initialized, the individuals are stuck in their reproaches and focus only on their own points of view. Lagarce's characters use the theatricalization, the putting in voice of a dramatic text of one of them in order to launch the speech that awaited this moment of expression. The sub-psychodrama, while being a poetic and dramatic concept of Lagarce, reveals the dialogical malaise in the contemporary society that the sub-psychodrama quotes while highlighting the complex mechanisms of the intersubjective perception as well as the mechanisms of our individual and collective memory. Both reflective self-perception, which goes from oneself to oneself, and transitive perception, which goes from oneself to the other or from the other to oneself - in the context of a speech act. The sub-psychodrama presents itself, therefore, as a dialogical and perceptive field of battle where the spoken word is in search of its answer. The sub-psychodrama invented and developed by Lagarce puts the concept of paper beings - linguistic puppets - at the same level, while promoting the coalition of puppet theater and word drama.

The article is devoted to the reconstruction of Snow White myth in contemporary culture in the relation to the changing concepts of femininity and masculinity. The Author takes into account several contexts of this issue. First, it can be understood in the terms of patriarchal power over women’s identity and body. Also, the author analyses the Snow White in a light of girl’s socialization into passive roles. In the article feminist interpretation of Snow White are also reconstructed. The different versions of Snow White fable are confronted with the various kinds of relations between women and men in contemporary society.

Using data from official statistics and surveys on victimization, this chapter aims to estimate the extent of domestic violence against men and examine the contraposition between female aggressors and male victims. More detailed knowledge both of women perpetrators and their male victims is believed to be useful for preparing appropriate programs of rehabilitation for the former as well as effective methods of intervention and help for the victims. The chapter reflects on the fact that, from the point of view of victimology, one of the risks to avoid is that of considering men as “second-class victims,” and from the criminological point of view, it is necessary to gain greater knowledge of the figure of the abusive woman, as well as focusing attention on the social representations of domestic violence.
