Development of Intercultural Communicative Competence of Future Specialists in the Field of Information Technologies in the Process of Foreign Languages Learning

Intercultural communication practice proves that effective communication with the representatives of different cultures involves not only knowledge of phonetics and lexico-grammatical structure, but the culture of the learned language as well. Therefore, the purpose of the study is to investigate and describe the essence of the term “intercultural communicative competence” and show the materials that promote its development. It is proved that the introduction of competence, communicative, and intercultural-based approaches facilitate the achievement of the set purpose. It has been found that intercultural communicative competence constitutes a complex formation with a lot of components that allow people to choose necessary language and speech means according to the sociocultural context, choose the strategies and tactics of communication to achieve set tasks and mutual understanding with the representatives of other cultures. It is found out that specific principles (dominance of problematic cultural tasks, cultural variability, and cultural opposition) form unbiased attitude towards the multicultural world, teach to perceive and analyse cultural difference, understand the interconnection of language and culture and thus improve the language level. The effectiveness of such methods as conscious-comparative, audiolingual, and role-play has been confirmed. Their introduction promotes meaningful learning and makes the process of intercultural communicative competence development easier. Considering the fact that the basis of intercultural communication is language, culture, and personality, the following components of intercultural communicative competence are identified: value-based, cognitive, effective, culturological. Exercises for intercultural communicative competence development of future specialists in the field of information technologies have been proposed. It is proved that the introduction of mentioned approaches, methods, and tasks has improved the maturity level of intercultural communicative competence. The practical value of the paper is in the fact that obtained results can be used in the process of foreign language teaching in any specialty

In the current literature on foreign language teaching, it has become clear that having the requisite ability of intercultural communicative competence (ICC) to be aware of different cultures, respect them, and interact with people from different cultures is crucial. Language is connected to culture and societies, in which people need to communicate with one another. English as a lingua franca provides a means of communication among different cultures. Thus, English as a foreign language (EFL) teaching classes offer perfect situations to foster ICC. From this viewpoint, this article gives an account to raise awareness of ICC in EFL settings by explaining ICC and its relationship with language, describing the significance of ICC, and illustrating some suggestions in the literature for the enhancement of ICC in EFL classes. This paper seeks to improve EFL teachers’ understanding of intercultural communication and to help them with their classroom practices.

Since the early ’80s the adjective "intercultural" in language learning and teaching has seemed to acquire a remarkable importance, although its meaning is strongly debated. As a matter of fact, despite the existence of a vast literature on this topic, difficulties arise when applying it in the classroom. The aim of this work is to analyze the elements we consider to be the central pillars in this methodology, i.e. a renewed language-and culture relation, the Intercultural Communicative Competence, the intercultural speaker. These factors allow us to consider this as a new paradigm in language education; furthermore, they foster the creation of new potentialities and configure the classroom as a significant learning environment towards the discovery of Otherness.

Intercultural communication is conducted exchanges among people under different languages and different cultural backgrounds, in the exchange process will encounter many problems and obstacles, and develop intercultural communication talents is a priority. This paper based on KLEE method study intercultural communicative competence evaluation index system. Firstly, by hierarchical analysis model representing the index system constituted with 6 level indexes and 24 secondary indexes; then, based on the basic idea of KLEE method to construct a mathematical model to calculate the weights; finally, according the solving steps of KLEE method to calculate the weights of level index and secondary indexes. This paper constructed index system is infrastructure work of intercultural communicative competence evaluation, for cultivating and selecting intercultural communication personnel to provide services, for the leadership decisions to provide support.

A social language could reflect culture which is correspondent and its manners show in the contents of words and vocabulary. The same to the animal words what contains rich and profound cultural customs of various nationalities and reflects the philosophical and cultural mentality of all ethnic groups profoundly.In the course of the development of human history, animals keep in touch with human beings. Many animals yet have been being human beings’ pets and friends. Many animals have formed a certain symbol in the minds of people, and are embodied in the language. Animal words are also forming a specific meaning in these processes. There are abundant words in English and Chinese with large number of animals as a metaphor. The cultural diversity of all nations around the world causes people to have different emotional attitudes towards animals in the different cultures, thus, the meaning of animal vocabulary is different in different cultures. It’s helpful to improve the communicative competence of English for the understanding of the cultural connotations of English and Chinese. To promote English learning and intercultural communication is of great practical significance.

The paper describes and discusses the observations and findings of three years of teaching a unique English language course – “Discussion Forum” within the study programme Foreign Languages and Intercultural Communication at the Faculty of Applied Languages, at the University of Economics in Bratislava. It presents the original format as it was introduced in 2010 when the study programme was accredited and its development and alterations based on the collected experience and evidence of both students and teacher. Three debate formats, speech duel, round table and team debate, are described and their shortcomings and merits are evaluated. Finally, the findings and conclusions arrived at since the first implementation, are discussed.

The aim of this paper2 is to discuss and emphasize the importance of acquiring and developing intercultural communicative competence (hereinafter ICC) for tourist professionals in the context of strategic advantages of Montenegro as a tourist destination. Montenegro, as a multicultural, multiethnic and multi-confessional country with a very rich and ancient cultural heritage and preserved natural resources, strives for European integration and achieving international competitiveness in the field of tourism through the development of its strategic advantages. In order to achieve progress in tourism industry, it is necessary to apply an interdisciplinary approach, which includes a symbiosis of elements of culture and tradition with the need and demands of modern tourists who want to communicate with the domicile population, or at least with their hosts, as well as to feel comfortable and welcome at the destination they have chosen for their holiday. Therefore, communicative and affective segments must be added to this interdisciplinary approach which inevitably includes the acquisition of new skills in intercultural communication at the international level. Such communication enables the development of ICC through the inclusion of both linguistic and cultural elements of education in tourism and applying the intercultural approach in foreign language teaching. Furthermore, developing intercultural aspects in tourism should be seen as one of core advantages of smaller and still insufficiently affirmed tourist regions, such as Montenegro, especially in these disruptive circumstances of crisis caused by Covid -19 virus.

Nowadays, the most accepted instructional framework in second or foreign language (L2) programs is Communicative Language Teaching, whose main goal is to increase learners’ communicative competence. This theoretical term means being able to use the linguistic system effectively and appropriately in the target language and culture. However, the implementation of a communicative methodology is not an easy task since it requires an understanding of the integrated nature of the theoretical concept of communicative competence (Celce-Murcia and Olshtain, 2005). Therefore, it is the main goal of this paper to help language teachers better understand such a theoretical concept for improving their classroom practices. In so doing, we first provide an explanation of the theoretical concept of communicative competence. Then, a current framework of communicative competence, which aims at highlighting the function of the four macro-skills to build discourse competence for communicative purposes and reflects our conceptualization of language teaching is briefly discussed (Usó-Juan and Martínez-Flor, 2006a). Finally, on the basis of this framework, and taking the intercultural component as the point of departure, a variety of activities in the four language skills are presented for teaching learners intercultural communicative competence.
