The purposes of the study was to determine the effectiveness of peer-led and parent-led education on menstrual hygiene-related knowledge of in-school adolescent girls in Ogun state, Nigeria, which was conceptualized using the Health Belief Model. The study employed a quasi-experimental design with 120 in-school adolescent girls selected through a multistage sampling technique from four (4) secondary schools within Ogun East. A validated instrument was used for data collection. The findings showed that the adolescent girls' level of menstrual hygiene knowledge had a significant increase after the intervention. The peer-led group better predicted higher knowledge scores (mean diff = 7.13; effect size = 4.34; t = 19.091; p = 0.000). In conclusion, the peer-led education intervention was more effective in improving the level of adolescent girls' menstrual hygiene knowledge in Ogun State. It is recommended that peer educators be recruited for future interventions to change the reproductive health behaviors of adolescent girls nationally.

The study aimed to determine the effectiveness of peer-led and teacher-led educational interventions on depression-related knowledge among in-school adolescents in Ogun State, Nigeria. The study utilized a quasi-experimental design comprising one control group and three experimental groups. The population of the study was 120 in-school adolescents selected using the multistage sampling technique. A validated semi-structured questionnaire was used for data collection. The findings revealed that the adolescents’ level of depression knowledge had a significant increase after the intervention. The teacher-led group had greater knowledge scores (mean difference = 14.87; effect size = 5.222; t = 19.943; p = 0.000). In conclusion, the teacher-led educational intervention was very effective in improving the level of adolescents’ depression knowledge in Ogun State. It is recommended that teachers are empowered in the country to be able to provide adolescents with the necessary support in which they play the role of mentors in schools.

In low and middle-income countries, menstruation is impeded by several misconceptions, taboos and shrouded in secrecy. This serves as a major challenge to proper Education regarding menstrual hygiene and has blocked the access of adolescent girls to the right kind of information, thereby influencing a negative outcome associated with harmful behaviours. The objective of the study was to investigate the assessment of an educational intervention on the perception of adolescent girls towards menstrual hygiene in Ogun state, Nigeria. The study utilized a quasi-experimental design. One hundred and twenty (120) in-school adolescent girls were selected through a multistage sampling technique from four (4) secondary schools within four (4) local government areas in Ogun State, Nigeria. A validated 23-items questionnaire measured on a 69-point rating scale with a Cronbach Alpha scores 0.79 was used for data collection. The mean ±SD age and age at menarche of adolescent girls was 14.92±1.82; 12.73±1.38. The majority of respondents had low scores of perceptions. The educational intervention had an effective change in the level of perception of adolescent schoolgirls between baseline and the 6th-week follow-up, indicating a mean difference of 26.70 (p<0.01) for the peer-led, 26.54(p<0.01) parent-led, 20.16(p<0.01) parent and peer-led and a decrease in mean in the control group (-0.17; p=0.866). The peer-led educational approach had a better impact on adolescent girls’ perception compared to other educational approaches. Hence, this is an indication that peer-education strategies should be utilized for further interventions and in reaching out to adolescents.

Due to unprecedented threat to the economy and the quality of life caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, this study focused on cost-benefit analysis during the lockdown of COVID-19 and the health belief model of COVID-19 pandemic in Ogun State, Nigeria. A total of 2400 copies of the questionnaire were administered to solicit information from the respondents using systematic random sampling technique on the targeted population while 2363 copies were retrieved and analyzed using descriptive statistics. The findings of the study revealed that the lockdown had negative impacts on health, economic, and social impacts. Results showed that 50.7% of the respondents spent no time going to the market and/or work during COVID-19, and this made 81.9% of them unable to gain extra gain during the lockdown as they were completely restricted for activities. The lockdown had impacts on socioeconomic activities as the prices of consumable goods increased due to the low supply. 71.8% of the respondents indicated that the government did not provide palliative measures for the households. The results further showed that everyone could be infected with COVID-19 as 86.0% of respondents indicated. 48% revealed that COVID-19 drugs were unavailable and prayers from religious leaders could not cure COVID-19. Besides, 65.5% were able to follow the basic measures put in place to reduce the spread of COVID-19 in the study area. This study concluded that necessary things should be put in place to ease the affairs of the populace before any other lockdown measure is made.

Introduction: Asthma in children causes loss of school days, and also causes growth in children. Parents have a responsibility to manage asthma, they need asthma management education for children who can increase their wisdom in managing it. The research objective was to develop a model of asthma management education in children based on beliefs in the concept of the Health Belief Model. Method: quasi-experimental research with 66 respondents, probability sampling method through simple random sampling. Using 3 HBM model development questionnaires belief, threat and behavior. Statistical analysis : using a paired t-test, Mann Whitney test, linear regression adjusted for each variable studied in developing HBM. Results and Analysis : education on trust (p <0.001), confidence in threats (p = 0.001), threats towards behavior (p <0.001), educational influence on behavior (p <0.001). Discussion and Conclusion: Parents' beliefs about their ability to discuss existing problems are very important to overcome recurrence. Increased confidence in skills, increased satisfaction and self-confidence, with an effective increase in good conditions by children with asthma.

Posyandu merupakan pusat pemantauan tumbuh kembang balita berbasis masyarakat, namun masih banyak ibu yang tidak membawa anak berkunjung teratur ke posyandu. Di Kabupaten Bandung, Posyandu Desa Cimekar memiliki angka kunjungan balita yang terendah yaitu 70,3% pada Bulan Oktober– Desember 2013. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui hubungan antara persepsi ibu dengan perilaku membawa balita ke posyandu dengan pendekatan teori Health Belief Model. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kuantitatif dengan pendekatan cross sectional. Sampel penelitian berjumlah 94 ibu balita yang diambil dengan menggunakan teknik simple random sampling di 10 Posyandu Desa Cimekar. Analisis menggunakan chi-square. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa 52,12% memiliki persepsi positif tentang posyandu dan 59,57% responden memiliki perilaku rutin membawa balita ke posyandu. Hasil analisis bivariat menunjukkan terdapat hubungan antara persepsi dengan perilaku ibu membawa balita ke posyandu (nilai p=0,000; α=0,05). Simpulan dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa persepsi ibu tentang posyandu belum merata dengan baik. Hasil penelitian ini merekomendasikan agar puskesmas memberikan pembinaan terhadap para ibu balita bukan hanya penyuluhan, namun diberikan pengarahan dan bimbingan tentang pentingnya membawa balita ke posyandu. Kata kunci: Balita, Health Belief Model, perilaku, persepsi, posyandu The Relationship between Mother’s Perception and Behavior on Attending Posyandu Abstract Community health post as well known as posyandu provide as center to monitor growth in children under five years old. Data showed that the number of mother’s attendance behavior to Posyandu in Cimekar’s Village was very low, only 70.5% from October to December 2013. The aimed of this study was to identify the relationship between mother’s perception and parents behavior on taking their children to posyandu based on Health Belief Model Theory. The method of this study was descriptive with cross sectional study. Simple random sampling was used as sampling technique with 97 mothers who has child under five years old among 10 Posyandu in Cimekar was taken in this study. Data was analyzed by chi-square. The result of this study showed that there was significant relationship between mother’s perception and mother’s behavior to attend Posyandu (p=0.000; α=0.05). Data showed that 52.25% respondents had a positive perception about posyandu and 59.5% respondents had positive behavior to take their child to posyandu. The recommendation for Puskesmas is to give further information and motivation to mother to attend posyandu frequently.Key words: Behavior, child under five years old, Health Belief Model, perception, posyandu.

Background: Health education can improve an adherence and reduce treatment delays in Tuberculosis (TB) patients. Based on results of interviews with TB patients at Nambo Public Health Center in December 2019, the results of interviews that has conducted on 4 patients, it found that the patients was undergoing treatment at the public health center , there were family members who were undergoing same treatment, there had been no routine preventive measures. The 4 patients interviewed said that they did not know clearlyto preventiontransmission  because the health worker only gave a sheet of paper which was recommended to be read at home. The General objective of this study was to determine the effect of health education patients in prevention of transmission at the Nambo Public Health Center Area. Methods: The type of study was quasyi experimental method with a pre test and post test design. The population of this study was 75 people, by using proportional random sampling technique with 26 respondents. The method of analysis  used paired t test of the statistical analysis. Result: The results of this study, showed that the above table analysis obtained the value of t=10,111>1,706, where t count was greater than the value of t table. It shows that there was asignificant effect of Health Prevention behavior at Nambo Public Health Center. Conclusion: It is hoped that the Nambo Community Health Center will always educationorconselingwhichwillincreasecommunityknowledge on TB prevention in the working area.

‘Assessment of the factors influencing and barriers associated with menstrual hygiene among adolescent girls of selected urban schools in view to develop information booklet.’ Objectives: 1. To assess the factors influencing Incidence of menstrual hygiene among the adolescent girls. 2. To assess the barriers associated with menstrual hygiene among adolescent girls. 3.To find association between the study findings and selected demographic variables. Material and Methods: The research approach adopted in this study is Observational research approach. Non- experimental descriptive research design was used. The sample were selected by Non-probability convenient sampling technique sample size was 100. Results: 1. 75% of the adolescent girls understand menstruation as the physiological process, 9% of them consider it as pathological process, 3% of them consider it as a cause for god and 13% of them don't know what menstruation is about. 2. 73% of the adolescent girls avoid visiting public places during menstruation due to lack of toilet facilities in public area, 14% of them avoid visiting public places because they feel shy to use public toilet and 13% of them avoid using public places due to cultural barriers.

Background Use of topical antiseptics could reduce the incidence of infection; however, studies have suggested that some antiseptics prolong the time for cord separation when compared with others. Aims To compare the umbilical cord separation time between neonates receiving 7.1% chlorhexidine gel and methylated spirit. Methods A quasi-experimental research design was employed for this study. A multistage sampling technique was used to select three primary health centers in Ibadan, Nigeria. A total of 212 newborns (118 newborns in the chlorhexidine group and 94 in the methylated spirit group) were enrolled into the study. Findings There was a statistically significant difference in mean time to cord separation between chlorhexidine (9.53 ± 4.559 days) and methylated-spirit group (7.98 ± 2.984) (t=2.840; P=0.005). Conclusions Chlorhexidine gel prolongs cord separation when compared to methylated spirit. Prolonged cord separation time was the major cause of dissatisfaction in the two study groups. The increased cord separation time associated with chlorhexidine should not eliminate it in settings where the risk of cord infection is high, but mothers should be informed of this.

Abstract Background The health belief model (HBM) is effective in preventing osteoporosis and promoting health literacy (HL). In this regard, there are some critical points such as the role of HL in preventing osteoporosis, adoption of preventive behaviors, adoption of behaviors, including physical activity, and the role of health volunteers in transmitting health messages to the community. Considering the aforesaid points this study was performed among the health volunteers aimed to determine the effect of educational intervention based on integrated HBM with HL on walking and nutrition behaviors to prevent osteoporosis. Materials and methods In this quasi-experimental intervention study, 140 health volunteers (70 people in each of the two intervention and control groups) were enrolled in the study using multi-stage random sampling, in 2020. The members of the intervention group received e-learning through social media software, 4 times during 4 weeks (once a week) and were provided with educational booklets and pamphlets. Data collection tools included demographic and background questionnaires; standard questionnaire based on the HBM, awareness, and walking and nutrition behaviors to prevent osteoporosis; and HELIA questionnaire to measure HL. These questionnaires were completed in two stages, before and 3 months after the intervention. The educational intervention in this study was sent to the intervention group in 4 stages. The collected data were analyzed using proportional tests (paired t-test, Wilcoxon test, independent t-test, Mann-Whitney test) and SPSS software version 23. Results The mean and standard deviation related to the score of adoption of nutrition behaviors at the beginning of the study in the intervention group was 5.398 ± 1.447, which changed to 8.446 ± 1.244 after 3 months, indicating a significant increase in the adoption of such behaviors (P = 0.009). In the control group, the mean and standard deviation of the scores of adoption of nutrition behaviors changed from 5.451 ± 1.222 to 6.003 ± 1.005, which was not statistically significant (P = 0.351). Also, the mean and standard deviation related to the scores of adoption of walking behavior at the beginning of the study in the intervention group was 8.956 ± 0.261, which changed to 13.457 ± 0.587 after 3 months, indicating a significant increase in the adoption of such behaviors (P < 0.001). In the control group, the mean and standard deviation related to the scores of the adoption of walking behavior changed from 8.848 ± 0.353 to 9.025 ± 0.545, which was not statistically significant (P = 0.211). Prior to the intervention, there was no significant difference between two groups regarding the variables of demographic and background, knowledge, all constructs of the model, HL, and adoption of walking and nutrition behaviors (P > 0.05). After the intervention, the comparison of the two groups showed that there was a significant change in the mean scores of awareness, all constructs of the model, HL, and adoption of preventive behaviors in the intervention group than the control group (P < 0.05). Conclusion The educational intervention based on an HBM integrated with HL was effective and acceptable in correcting and promoting walking and nutrition behaviors to prevent osteoporosis among health volunteers. Therefore, it can be said that the intervention implemented was in line with the developed model used.
