Inculcation and Promotion of Values Through Life Skills Education at the School Level

Life skills education helps in the development of values among students at the school level to reach their full potential and prepare them for the challenges of everyday life. In this context, the entire process of education should be value-oriented and lead to skill development. The purpose of value inculcation through life skills education is to develop an integrated and balanced personality in the child. The study throws light on the ten core life skills of the World Health Organisation that are self-awareness, empathy, critical thinking, creative thinking, decision making, problem-solving, effective communication, interpersonal relationship, coping with stress and coping with emotions. The paper also highlights various teaching methods to instil values through life skills in a classroom such as class discussions, brainstorming, case studies etc.

The purpose of this study is to describe the personal characteristics of students (learning citizens) and the business potential that is relevant to life skills education programs at the Community Learning Center in Tanah Datar District. This study uses a descriptive quantitative survey method. This study uses 60 samples from 120 population people. Furthermore, the data were analyzed quantitatively descriptive, then clarified with the focus of group discussion (FGD), interviews, observation and verification of documentation. The results showed that participants in the life skills education program in several Community Learning Centers in Tanah Datar District were generally of productive age with adequate formal education (high school level), from pre-prosperous families, and did not have a permanent business. Based on the search for interests, existing skills, and other environmental resource potentials, the appropriate business developed in the future is a business that produces goods from the agricultural sector and goods from business dress, sewing or embroidery skills.Keywords: Life Skills Education, Personal Characteristics, Business Potential

Slums are universal in character and no country is able to get rid of them. Large-scale migration to the cities due to employment opportunities and other community facilities, an income level which is inadequate to maintain decent standards of living are some of the major contributory factors responsible for the growth of slums especially in Chennai as per Tamilnadu slum clearance board. Life Skills have been defined by the World Health Organization (WHO) as psychosocial abilities for adaptive and positive behavior that enable individuals to deal effectively with the demands and challenges of everyday life. The youth from slums due to lack of effective utilization of their skills are still in a lower level jobs and have not climbed to great ladders. The youth pursuing their graduation or pursuing their post graduation belonging to the age group between eighteen to twenty four years of age from Zone 8 slum recognized by the slum clearance board alone are the respondents. Strength of thirty samples by using simple random sampling method was used for the research. A majority 73.3% of the respondents were in poor condition level in self awareness dimension, while 26.7% of them were in average level. It is inferred that the respondents various life skills from different dimensions namely interpersonal relationship, critical thinking, decision making, problem solving and coping with emotions do differ with regard to their gender. It is observed that there is strong and significant association between various dimensions of life skills namely Interpersonal relationship (X2-4.562,df-1), Effective communication (X2-1.425,df-1) and Critical thinking (X2-4.124,df-1). The research suggests the need for bettering the life skill education among the youth from slums at the time of their academics itself

The positive evidences of life skills education among the young people in difficult circumstances have encouraged the researchers in imparting life skills education to the rescued devadasi adolescent girls in North Karnataka. The study was conducted in pre experimental research design without a control group of rescued devadasi girls by understanding their needs and gaps in life skills. The effectiveness of the programme was assessed using a standardized tool. 25 adolescent girls who were rescued from the devadasi system participated in the study. These girls were daughters’ of active devadasi women from Raichur, Koppal, Bellary and Bijapur. The girls were provided life skills education by the researchers.  Intervention programme was developed based on the 10 life skills laid out by the World Health Organization after integrating methodologies and contents specific to their life situation after a need assessment study using Life skills assessment scale. The results analyzed in SPSS version 18, indicate that the programme was effective and displayed statistical significance in rendering the participants with Life skills. The study intends to highlight the importance of developing tailor made life skills programme for vulnerable groups and girls at risk.

A life skill refers to the set of skills that enable us to effectively handle issues commonly encountered in daily life. A student acquires these skills through by education and their direct experiences in day to day life. In everyday life, the development of life skills helps students to: Find new ways of thinking and problem solving. The life skills help to adolescents to gain new ways of learning as well as control over their behavior and to take informed decision that can lead to positive values. The aim of the present study was the see the life skills (all dimension of life skills) among senior secondary students . The sample of this study was selected randomly 100 students studying in government and private schools in sonepat district. Life skill Scale – Developed by M.N.Vranda (2009) tool was used for the collection of data in n the present study. The data were analyzed by employing mean, SD and ‘t- test..After data analysis this study found that there was significance difference between boys and girls students on level of life skills. Female students have mean more than male students of all dimension of life skill i.e decising making , problem solving , Empathy, Self Awareness, Communication Skill, Interpersonal Relationship, Coping with Emotions, Coping with Stress, Creative Thinking and Critical Thinking.

Life skills refer to adaptive and positive behaviors that help people effectively cope with the needs and challenges of daily life. Thus, this study aimed at the analysis of the application of life skills in the Sunnah of Prophet (PBUH) based on the life skills recommended by WHO such as problem-solving, decision making, creative thinking, critical thinking, self-awareness, empathy, interpersonal relationship, effective communication, coping with stress, coping with emotions. The deductive content analysis of topic-related data in Hadith which refers to the verbal, action, and recognition of the Prophet (PBUH), classic Islamic and modern literature, is conducted through the descriptive narrative method. The finding reveals the acknowledgment and the application of life skills on several occasions in Sunnah, as well as the adherence to such skills will assist walking through the guidance of Sunnah. As a result, it strongly suggests that the icon would serve as a guide for every individual in the modern world in terms of the effective application of life skills at various levels and circumstances that can assist in leading a successful life. This study will be referred for future studies regarding the application and the impact of life skills.

Education is a process of accelerating the rate of maturation among children and adolescence. Both the childhood and adolescence are crucial stages of development, which will have to be channelized healthily in order to create a rich human resource. World Health Organization (WHO) defines individuals in the age group of 10-19 as adolescents, in the age group of 10-24 as young people and in the age group of 15-24 as youth (WHO 2007).

Taman Sari Sub-District, Bogor Regency has the potential for fertile soil. But these lands have not been tilled properly. Narrow housing conditions, especially for poor people, do not allow residents to plant crops. Causing the lack of consumption of vegetables; which causes residents become easily sick. In addition, there is also a lot of plastic waste, especially bottled drinking water and other things that come from tourists and fishermen who have not been processed. This condition gave rise to the idea to provide life skills training in making vertical gardens, hydroponic plants and waste management. Besides the need for makeup and haircutting skills also needed especially for orphans fostered by Yasayan Usawatun Hasanah. Community Service Activities (PkM) aims to foster community awareness of the cleanliness of the environment and empower citizens to be more creative and entrepreneurial. Therefore, in addition to the types of activities requested by the residents, UPBJJ-UT Bogor will also teach about identifying the economic value of the work done in the form of determining the cost of goods sold / production. This activity was attended by 50 orphans and it ran smoothly and successfully. Now orphans already have life skills that hope can lift their economy.

Life skills education to deal with the climate change and management of natural disaster prevention for students in ethnic minorities boarding high schools are very necessary nowadays. Based on educational activities of life skills, we establish and develop the awareness, attitudes and behavior for students, help them to find the causes and consequences of climate change and the natural disaster so that they shape attitudes and behavior of themselves in adaptation and mitigation due to climate change and natural disasters, as well as conscious propaganda for everyone to perform, toward a better life, a civilized society, meet overall educational goals during the current period. So that, life skills education for the goals of meeting the needs of disaster prevention for students are concerned. However, we not only say doctrinairely but also pay attention to the results of the life skills education due to meet the needs of disaster prevention, by then we form perceptions, attitudes and behavior for students in schools and in society. So there must be coordination between the forces of education in schools with families and society. Therefore, life skills education for students acquire sustainably. Assay results consulted reviews of managers, teachers showed that life skills educational management measures meeting the needs of disaster prevention for the students are necessary and available, suitable with the practice of ethnic minorities boarding high schools.

Education is basically an attempt to develop the potential of students and the demands of environmental conditions to have life skills. So that researchers interested in lifting the title "Implementation of Life Skills Education in Learning PAI At SMP Diponegoro. The formulation of the problem and the goal that researchers take is to answer questions and to find out how the implementation of life skills education in learning PAI, how the factors supporting and life skills and how to overcome the inhibiting factors of life skills in learning PAI in SMP Diponegoro Moropelang Babat Lamongan. To find out the problems and get the data clearly, here the researchers used a qualitative descriptive approach. The technique of collecting data and information is done through observation of events and circumstances relating to the implementation of life skills education in learning PAI, Interview principals, teachers PAI, teacher coaches life skills and learners and documentary archive of documentation that an official of the SMP Diponegoro Moropelang Babat Lamongan.
