Background: Sensitive Skin Syndrome (SSS) is predominantly a self-defined condition without objective pathological findings. The syndrome presents with sudden and easily provoked flushes accompanied by unpleasant sensations like itching, pain or numbness in response to stimuli that usually do not cause such sensations. The intact skin is a barrier to uncontrolled water loss, plasma components and proteins from the organism. It is therefore assumed that one of the possible explanations of itching and other unpleasant sensations in SSS should be resulting in a dysfunctional skin barrier. Purpose: was to establish is there a dysfunction of the skin barrier in SSS patients. Objective and Methods: The presented study includes 64 females self-diagnosed with SSS and 45 females self-diagnosed with NSS (non-sensitive skin). Demographic data were collected from registers of Medico-Aesthetic Center “Medea” Varna from April 2017 till April 2019. Trans epidermal Water Loss (TEWL) and Hydration (H) of the epidermis in three different areas of the body were measured as an indicator of normal skin barrier functioning. Results: No significant differences in skin barrier indicators in SS compare to NSS were found. No visible pathological changes were found in patients according to the duration of SSS. A slight correlation between abnormal levels of TEWL and H and the severity of disease was obtained. Conclusion: All the reported and analyzed results indicate that disorders of the skin barrier are slightly connected with the severity and duration of SSS. This could be one of the explanations why adding topical treatment worsen rather than improve SSS. This is the first study in our country, which aims to measure the impact of changes in skin barrier on clinical characteristics of SSS.

Introduction. Since individuals with IBD typically experience symptoms during their prime years of employment, it raises the question about IBD impact on employment status. Most studies concentrated on absenteeism from work with varying results in different populations. However, absenteeism reflects only one dimension of the ability to work and does not expose the problem of inability to hold a full-time job. Aims. To evaluate the influence of IBD on unemployment and working hours in Israel. Secondary aims were to investigate the correlation between working hours and the type of medical treatment and the impact of severity of disease. Patients and Methods. Demographic data, employment status, number of weekly working hours, and disease parameters. The data was compared to that of the general Israeli population extracted from the website of the Central Bureau of Statistics. Results. 242 IBD patients were interviewed. Patients median age was 37.04(IQR 30.23-44.68) years and 88 (36.4%) were men and 154 (63.6%) women. Diagnosis of CD was established in 167 (69%) patients and UC in 65 (26.9%). There was no significant reduction in employment rates or working hours among the IBD patients comparing to the general population. Immunosuppressive or biologic treatment did not influence employment status. The unemployed patients had higher disease severity (median 7.33, IQR 5-10.66) compared to employed patients (median 6, IQR 3.66-7.66; p=0.003). Conclusions. Although IBD patients in Israel do not have higher unemployment, those with severe disease have lower proportion of employment.

AbstractBackgroundPrevious studies showed that obesity was correlated with many negative social and health outcomes including poor academic achievement and low self-esteem.PurposeTo determine the prevalence of obesity and to identify the impact of obesity on self-esteem and academic performance among university students.MethodThe study used a correlational design to achieve the study objectives. It was conducted at the University of Jordan (UJ). The study population was all university students in at UJ. A convenience sampling technique was conducted to select 419 students. A self-administered questionnaire was designed to collect data from the sample. The body of the questionnaire was divided into two sections: a demographic data section, and the second section aimed to measure the students’ self-esteem using the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (SES).ResultsThe response rate in this study was 91.1%. The results showed that 33 students were obese (7.88%), 116 students were overweight (27.68%), 266 students were normal weight (63.48%), and four students were underweight (0.95%). The results showed that there was a significant negative relationship between obesity and self-esteem (total item) (r = −0.231, 0.000*). The results showed that there was a significant negative relationship between obesity and academic achievement (r = −0.131, 0.002).ConclusionThere was a significant impact of obesity on the self-esteem and academic performance among university students.

Due to high prevalence in the pediatric population, chronic recurrent course and difficulties in choosing the local therapy, atopic dermatitis is an urgent problem for pediatricians, dermatologists and allergists. The review presents data on the prevalence and features of the clinical manifestations of atopic dermatitis in various age periods. The authors consider structural, functional and immunological features of the skin barrier are considered in detail under normal and under pathological conditions. They emphasize the problems of quality of life, compliance and steroidophobia of patients with atopic dermatitis. Particular attention is paid to the concept of sensitive skin, the definition of this concept and the localization of sensitive skin area on the surface of the body. The article describes approaches to the method of choosing external therapy according to the European guidelines for the treatment of atopic dermatitis in 2018. It presents a modern practical algorithm for prescribing local anti-inflammatory drugs (topical glucocorticosteroids, topical calcineurin inhibitors) taking into account the severity of the clinical manifestations of the disease and the areas of application (sensitive skin areas/other parts of the body). The authors provide evidence of the efficacy and safety of topical calcineurin inhibitors, in particular pimecrolimus, in the treatment of patients with mild to moderate severity of atopic dermatitis, especially in sensitive skin areas.

Studies on sensitive skin pathophysiology in infants are challenging because most assessment methods require self-reporting of signs. In this study, we aimed to identify and characterize sensitive skin in children for the first time. A newly developed parent-reported questionnaire was used to recruit children with sensitive skin. This questionnaire was also tested on an adult group. Hydration, transepidermal water loss (TEWL), and inflammatory markers (cytokines, and polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs)) were quantified. A total of 77 children and 20 adults (33 and 10 with sensitive skin, respectively) were recruited. The groups with sensitive skin had more clinical signs of skin dryness. Skin hydration was lower in children in the sensitive compared with the nonsensitive skin group. TEWL levels were similar between sensitive and nonsensitive subjects in both infant and adult groups. Sensitive skin exhibited higher levels of cytokines and proinflammatory PUFAs as well as lower levels of anti-inflammatory PUFAs. Sensitive skin syndrome was associated with normal skin barrier function but lower hydration in infants and children. The higher levels of proinflammatory markers suggest that sensitive skin is associated with low-level inflammation. It is hypothesized, for the first time, that PUFAs are involved in sensitive skin syndrome in infants.

Abstract Abstract 3811 Poster Board III-747 Background The European LeukemiaNet has initiated a prospective, noninterventional registration study on newly diagnosed MDS patients with IPSS low and intermediate-1 risk in eleven participating European countries. The main objectives are to describe demographics and to collect data on clinical characteristics, disease management and relevant outcomes. Patients and Methods The registry started accruing patients in April 2008. Until now 478 patients have been registered through a web-based reporting system. This report describes the demographic data of the first 400 registered patients with a median follow up of 177 days. Results The median age of the patients was 74 years. RAEB-1 was the WHO-diagnosis in 13% of the patients while the remaining patients had < 5% marrow blasts (RA: 81; RARS: 84; RCMD: 114; RCMD-RS: 26, MDS-U: 16; del(5q): 27). The majority of patients were males 250/400 except within WHO del(5q) which showed a female preponderance 21/27. Cytogenetic data were available in 93% of the patients and 77% had good risk cytogenetic characteristics. IPPS score was 0 in 50% of the patients, 0.5 in 28% patients and 1 point in 15% of the patients. The Karnofsky performance score was reported in 85% of the patients. The Karnofsky index was related to age (p<0.001) and was <80 in 20% of the patients. The EQ 5D status was reported in 82% of the patients. The median EQ 5D score was 70 (4 to 100) and ranged from 50 (40 to 80) in Austria to 87 (50 to 100) in Greece. The mean Sorror Score of Co-morbidity was 2.4 (2.0) and ranged from 1.4 (s.d.1.6) in Greece to 3.0 (s.d 1.8) in France. Cardiac disease was reported in 28% of the patients, pulmonary disease in 13%, diabetes mellitus in 16%, and thyroid disease in 12% of the patients. The Body mass Index was available in 73% of the patients. Overweight (BMI>25) was present in 60% of the reported patients. The median Erythropoietin level (N = 219) was 42 iU/l (3.5 to 2100). The iron status at diagnosis was available in 241 patients. The median serum iron level (N = 240) was 10 mmol/l (range: 3 to 57) with a median transferrin saturation level 39% (N = 107), ranging from 17% in MDS-U to 53% in RARS. The median ferritin level was 341 mg/l (n=289) ranging from 121 mg/l in del(5q) to 577 mg/l in RARS. 37% of the patients received MDS specific treatment, principally erythropoietin (31%) and G-CSF (4%). 27% of the patients received transfusions at registration, ranging from 17% in Greece to 56% in the Netherlands. As expected only 12 patients (3%) received iron chelation therapy in this early phase after diagnosis. The mean ferritin level of these patients was 1638 mg/l. Thirteen patients progressed to high-risk MDS or AML after a median time of 154 days. Sixteen patients have died (9 patients due to non-MDS related causes) after a median of 175 days after diagnosis. In conclusion this European registry shows that is possible to collect detailed demographic data in eleven different countries. The preliminary data show demographic differences. This registry will show the impact of various demographic and clinical variables including socio-economic co-morbidity and health utility variables on the outcome of patients with low-risk MDS. The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of Shariah governance and corporate governance (CG) on the risk management practices (RMPs) of local Islamic banks and foreign Islamic banks operating in Malaysia. The Shariah governance comprises the Shariah review (SR) and Shariah audit (SA) variables. The study also evaluates the level of RMPs, CG, SR, and SA between these two type of banks. With the aid of SPSS version 20, the items for RMPs, CG, SR, and SA were subjected to principal component analysis (PCA). From the PCA, one component or factor was extracted each for the CG, SR, and RMPs while another two factors were extracted for the SA. Primary data was collected using a self-administered survey questionnaire. The questionnaire covers four aspects ; CG, SR, SA, and RMPs. The data received from the 300 usable questionnaires were subjected to correlation and regression analyses as well as an independent t-test. The result of correlation analysis shows that all the four variables have large positive correlations with each other indicating a strong and significant relationship between them. From the regression analysis undertaken, CG, SR, and SA together explained 52.3 percent of the RMPs and CG emerged as the most influential variable that impacts the RMPs. The independent t-test carried out shows that there were significant differences in the CG and SA between the local and foreign Islamic banks. However, there were no significant differences between the two types of the bank in relation to SR and RMPs. The study has contributed to the body of knowledge and is beneficial to academicians, industry players, regulators, and other stakeholders.

Summary. The disbalanced feeding and the uneven distribution of micro- and macroelements in the environment leads to a trace element, in particular hypomelanosis. To accelerate the growth and preservation of young farm animals include in the diet of various biological additives and drugs, which include selenium. For stimulation of weight gain in the livestock industry, as well as for the prevention and treatment of pathological processes in addition to micro - and macrouse amino acids, primarily methionine. The aim of this work was to study the influence of composition of DAFS-25+Polizon on morpho-biochemical parameters of blood and functional state of the liver in fattening bulls of black-motley breed in the conditions of the Republic of Bashkortostan. Experiments using were conducted on bull-calves of black-motley breed of the properties in the properties age from 6 to 15 months. The first experimental group during the experiment was additionally given the composition of DAFS-25+Polizon at a dose of 2 mg/kg, the animals of the control group received a standard diet. To assess the impact of the composition DAFS-25+Polizon on metabolism cattle studied morphological and biochemical indicators of blood and conducted histological examination of the liver. It is established that the use of the composition of DAFS-25+Polizon at a dose of 2 mg/kg increases the number of erythrocytes and hemoglobin in the experimental group and reduces the amount of white blood cells. The serum content of total protein, phosphorus and calcium increases in the group of experimental animals. Microscopic examination of the liver revealed no changes in the structure of the organ and hepatocytes in the experimental group, whereas in the control group hemodynamic disorders and dystrophic changes in liver cells were observed. Thus, the use of the composition DAFS-25+Polizon at a dose of 2 mg/kg of live weight in fattening bulls black-and-white breed contributes to the increase of redox processes in the body, stimulation of metabolism, prevent the development of liver disorders of cellular mechanisms of metabolism, optimizes the structure of the liver, which generally provides higher productivity.

Introduction. The impact on the body of such factors of the production environment as coal-rock dust and fluorine compounds leads to certain shift s in strict indicators of homeostasis at the system level. Maintaining the relative constancy of the internal environment of the body is provided by the functional consistency of all organs and systems, the leading of which is the liver. Organ repair plays a crucial role in restoring the structure of genetic material and maintaining normal cell viability. When this mechanism is damaged, the compensatory capabilities of the organ are disrupted, homeostasis is disrupted at the cellular and organizational levels, and the development of the main pathological processes is noted.The aim of the study is to compare the morphological mechanisms of maintaining structural homeostasis of the liver in the dynamics of the impact on the body of coal-rock dust and sodium fluoride.Materials and methods. Experimental studies were conducted on adult white male laboratory rats. Features of morphological mechanisms for maintaining structural homeostasis of the liver in the dynamics of exposure to coal-rock dust and sodium fluoride were studied on experimental models of pneumoconiosis and fluoride intoxication. For histological examination in experimental animals, liver sampling was performed after 1, 3, 6, 9, 12 weeks of the experiment.Results. The specificity of morphological changes in the liver depending on the harmful production factor was revealed. It is shown that chronic exposure to coal-rock dust and sodium fluoride is characterized by the development of similar morphological changes in the liver and its vessels from the predominance of the initial compensatory-adaptive to pronounced violations of the stromal and parenchymal components. Long-term inhalation of coal-rock dust at 1–3 weeks of seeding triggers adaptive mechanisms in the liver in the form of increased functional activity of cells, formation of double-core hepatocytes, activation of immunocompetent cells and endotheliocytes, ensuring the preservation of the parenchyma and the general morphostructure of the organ until the 12th week of the experiment. Exposure to sodium fluoride leads to early disruption of liver compensatory mechanisms and the development of dystrophic changes in the parenchyma with the formation of necrosis foci as early as the 6th week of the experiment.Conclusions. The study of mechanisms for compensating the liver structure in conditions of long-term exposure to coal-rock dust and sodium fluoride, as well as processes that indicate their failure, and the timing of their occurrence, is of theoretical and practical importance for developing recommendations for the timely prevention and correction of pathological conditions developing in employees of the aluminum and coal industry.The authors declare no conflict of interests.

Introduction. Occupational chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is one of the leading nosological forms of occupational respiratory disease. Numerous studies have shown high effectiveness of the combination of indacaterol/glycopyrronium (Ultibro®breezhaler®) on the impact on clinical and functional indicators in the treatment of COPD in General practice.The aim of the investigation the case of occupational COPD with the analysis of the dynamics of functional indicators, tolerance to physical load and evaluation of the quality of life of workers engaged in aluminum production by using combination of indacaterol/glycopyrronium.Materials and methods. The random sampling method included 20 men, workers of aluminum production, with the established diagnosis of professional COPD at the age of 40 to 60 years. The survey was conducted (Borg scale, medical Research Council scale (mMRC) and COPD Assessment Test (CAT). Functional methods of studies were conducted: spirometry, body plethysmography, electrocardiography (ECG) and the six-minute stepper test (6-MST).Results. Against the background of 8 weeks of therapy, the volume of forced exhalation for 1 minute (FEV1) increased by 14.7% and amounted to 67.90% of the due values, the forced vital capacity of the lungs (FVC) increased by 11.3% and amounted to 76.95% of the due. According to the body plethysmography (BPG) is set to decrease in residual lung volume on average by 13.4% and static hyperinflation, confirmed by the decrease in functional residual volume (FRV) of 18.8%. During the study period increased physical activity of patients. The average difference between the distance traveled in the six-minute step test before and after treatment was 58.8 m. The analysis of personal data showed that the quality of life of patients improved, the total score in the questionnaire CAT at the beginning of the study was 16.9 points, and after 8 weeks decreased by 63% and amounted to 10.7 points.Conclusions: The Results indicate a positive effect of combination therapy with indacaterol/glycopyrronium on the course and progression of occupational COPD.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the reported or perceived impact of studying in Nepal on student’s academic program, personal development and intellectual development. The study draws upon adult learning theory to analyze survey instrument data, interviews, and case studies to discern the impact of the program on college students and to contribute to the body of longitudinal research on U.S. study abroad programs.
