The aim of the study was to examine whether participation of academic students in experiential activities during their semester lessons could facilitate their learning and improve their exam performance. The study involved 68 students of an Early Years Learning & Care Department, who volunteered and committed to attend all semester lessons. All students participated actively during the lessons. At the end of the semester students were interviewed with a semi-structured protocol on the experiences of the teaching process and on what they thought the impact of the process will be on written exams. Participants had been informed of the purposes of the study in advance, they had the right to withdraw at any time and anonymity was guaranteed. All students stated that they enjoyed the process, preferred it to a passive lecture, gained more knowledge and were more prepared for the exams. This interactive teaching process concerns both university teachers and students, requires planning and merits further discussion.

Problems faced today both teachers and students in learning mathematics, among others: the lack of variation of teaching methods teachers in the delivery of materials for students, still low student motivation in learning, the lack of media used by teachers in delivering the material. From the facts obtained, then the research team tried to provide solutions of these problems is the right to do the development of teaching materials / interactive media-based computer. Computer technology can be utilized to design interactive teaching materials/media. This computer-based interactive teaching material presents digital material with animations that are more interesting and fun for counting times, for, plus and less. The form of research conducted is Research and Development. This development is done based on elementary students’ characteristics. So they are quicker to grasp the lessons of concrete matters combined with animation. Validation results from expert show that computer-based interactive mathematical teaching materials on integer material have been valid (teaching material has been in accordance with the forbidden). The results of trials conducted in the fourth class of elementary school showed that computer-based interactive learning materials on digital material have been practical. It can be concluded that the teaching materials effective in generating student learning activities and can make students learn independent and fun.

The COVID-19 pandemic affects the whole world. Spain is one of the most affected nations. Prevention via information that fosters knowledge, reasonable concern, control and personal care is the most effective means to slow down the pandemic. In this intervention study we assessed extant knowledge, concern, control and care about the COVID-19 in 111 Spanish university teachers and students. Subsequently, we randomly assigned them to two groups. One group (n = 53) received uncertain information about the current measures of prevention whereas the other group (n = 58) received certain information. A group by time interaction revealed that the ‘certain information’ group reported immediately increased personal care about the pandemic. These findings suggest that measures known to be effective in COVID-19 prevention should be communicated with certainty (i.e. must be convincing) to influence people’s attitudes through the schematic organization of new information.

In the process of students’ learning English pronunciation, some pronunciation errors caused by the negative transfer of Chinese are caused. If these negative transfer effects of Chinese cannot be overcome, it will hinder the improvement of students’ listening and speaking skills. This article analyzes the impact of negative dialect transfer on English phonetics learning from three aspects: phoneme, coherent pronunciation and intonation, and proposes some coping strategies, hoping to instruct teachers to help students overcome the impact of negative dialect transfer and improve their English pronunciation level during the listening and speaking teaching process.

Abstract: This research was conducted to see and discover the teaching challenges associated with each teacher or lecturer when teaching in an atmosphere of the Covid-19 pandemic. This is important to research because there have been significant changes in teaching and learning activities when the massive spread of Covid-19 occurred. By using qualitative research based on literature review, some of the most striking challenges were obtained, namely: challenges from technology and instructional media, challenges of teacher unpreparedness, challenges of unsupportive facilities and infrastructure, methodological challenges, and human resource challenges. This research provides several solutions to minimize the impact caused by the above challenges, such as: teachers and lecturers must improve their competence in operating learning media and technology, teachers and lecturers must use the right method, and campuses or schools are required to support the teaching process. by providing facilities and infrastructure.

Traditional teaching modes are engaged with teachers delivering knowledge to students with minimum feedback. Teaching is conducted in lecture theaters and classrooms, which are sometimes designed with minimum flexibility for university education. However, the rapid development of information and communication technologies has altered the teaching pedagogy from traditionally teacher-centered to more collaborative learning between teachers and students. Learning spaces should be designed to be interactive and collaborative with suitable physical movement and social engagement among teachers and students. This paper aims to examine the relationships between modern technology and pedagogical shift, and to identify and discuss the essential design principles for effective active learning through built pedagogy. A recent renovation project of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University in converting conventional classrooms and lecture theaters to active learning spaces was adopted as a case study to illustrate and validate the design principles and their actual implementation. Feedback and responses from 410 end-user students on the impact of the renovated classrooms and lecture theaters on teaching and learning effectiveness were gleaned through empirical survey questionnaires dispatched face-to-face to students after attending classes in the renovated classrooms and lecture theaters. The results of factor analysis indicated that the 15 variables of key design criteria for active learning spaces were consolidated under six underlying clustered factor groups: (1) Versatility of learning space; (2) interior design of learning environment; (3) modern information technology / audio and video (IT/AV) technologies; (4) interior lighting; (5) comfortable furniture and acoustic design; and (6) interior temperature. The survey findings can serve as good references and useful insights for architects in designing new learning spaces and facilities that assist active and collaborative learning for university students in future.

Growing literature on the impact of new technologies on learning processes suggests that blogs can be effective tools to empower cognition. The chapter describes a line of research which is aimed at exploring the possibility that blogging is related to cognitive skills and can be effectively used in educational settings. In the main study reported in the paper fifty blogs were analysed and classified according to both their content and formal structure. The right (i.e., intuitive-holistic) vs. left (i.e., systematic-analytical) thinking style of blog owners was also assessed, as well as the blog owners' awareness of the psychological processes, activated by the blog that they had devised, both in their own and in other people's mind. Results showed that blog owners are able to use effective communication strategies by differentiating the formal structure of bogs according to the content, but they lack metacognitive awareness about the mental processes activated by the blog. No relation between the blog owner's cognitive style and blog style was found. Implications for the educational use of blogs are discussed. In other two studies such implications were tested in samples of teachers and students. Blogs' potentialities to enhance metacognitive awareness and control in both teachers and students, as well as cooperative learning in students, were critically evaluated. Altogether, results from this research line provide evidence that blogging can be useful to foster cognitive skills in education by empowering the bloggers' awareness of the implied mental processes.
