AbstractPropagation of Cestrum corymbosum by seeds and cuttings. Cestrum corymbosum is an ornamental bush native from Brazil. This research aimed to study the sexual and vegetative propagation of this species, evaluating germination and growth of the seedlings, and testing the influence of indolebutyric acid (IBA) and cuttings size on its rooting and development. In order to evaluate germination, six repetitions of 100 seeds were considered. After that, 200 seedlings have been transplanted to individual packages kept in a bed. The vegetative propagation experiment has been arranged in a 3 x 2 factorial completely randomized design that comprised the combination of three IBA concentrations (0, 1000 and 2000 mg.L-1) for two cuttings sizes (8 and 15 cm). The cuttings were planted in commercial substrate Plantmax HA®. A high germination (92%) has been verified. The survival after transplantation was very high (99.5%). It was detected statistically significant influence of the cuttings size on plants survival, rooting (P<0.01) and leaves number (P<0.05). The cuttings of 8 cm  presented better survival (93.3%) and rooting (91.3%) rates. The treatment with IBA in distinct concentrations did not produce results with significant differences (P<0.01).Keywords: Germination; rooting; indolebutyric acid; native species; Solanaceae.

ABSTRACT: The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of different types of cuttings and indolebutyric acid (IBA) concentration on the vegetative propagation of Lippia insignis , L. lasiocalycina , and L. thymoides . The experiment was conducted in a 2×5 factorial table, by using 2 types of cuttings (apical and medial) and 5 IBA concentrations (0, 250, 500, 750, and 1000mg·L-1) in a Completely Randomized Design (CRD), with 4 replications and 10 cuttings per plot. For the propagation of L. insignis , apical cuttings are the most suitable, whereas for L. thymoides and L. lasiocalycina species, both apical and medial cuttings may be used. The application of IBA is not necessary for propagation by cutting of the three species of Lippia.

The use of rootstocks originated from sexual propagation results in serious problems for peach culture, being vegetative propagation an important alternative to minimize these problems partially. Among vegetative propagation methods, the use of mini-cuttings constitutes an innovation against the conventional mini-cutting method, which, in some species, have promoted an increase in productivity, uniformity and rooting percentage. Thus, the objective of the present work was to evaluate the viability of Japanese apricot propagation through herbaceous mini-cuttings, by testing different concentrations of IBA (0, 1.000, 2.000 e 3.000 mg.L-1) and types of mini-cuttings (apical, median and basal), in a completely randomized design with four replications. Prepared with two buds and a leaf cut in half, with two lesions on the basis, they were immersed in IBA solution, for 10 seconds, and placed in transparent, articulated plastic packages with vermiculite growing medium. Next, they were placed in a greenhouse under controlled temperature. Sixty days after installation, the percentage of rooted mini-cuttings, number and length of the three largest roots were evaluated. During rooting, the apical, median and basal mini-cuttings showed higher percentage using 1.000 mg.L-1 of IBA.

The use of Brazilian native species for ornamental purposes is a promising alternative for local floriculture. Seeking to contribute with new information in this context, the present study aimed to evaluate the rooting performance of mini-cuttings from three Tibouchina species (T. aff. fothergillae, T. heteromalla and T. moricandiana var. vinacea) as affected by the use of indolebutyric acid (IBA) and fulvic acid (FA). Mini-cuttings with 5 cm in length were prepared with plant material from clonal mini-hedges and submitted to different treatments as follows: control treatment (T1); 2,000 mg L-1 IBA (T2); 2,000 mg L-1 FA (T3) and 2,000 mg L-1 IBA + 2,000 mg L-1 FA (T4). Planting was carried out in plastic containers filled with vermiculite, and, after 26 days under greenhouse conditions, the following variables were evaluated: mini-cuttings rooting percentage (RP), roots number (RN), roots length (RL), initial leaves maintenance (ILM) and sprouting (SP). The experiment was conducted under a completely randomized design in a 3 x 4 factorial scheme, with four replications and 20 minicuttings per plot. Rooting percentages were higher than 90% in all three species, regardless of IBA or FA treatments. RP, ILM and SP did not show statistically significant interaction between the treatments. For RN, T2 and T4 promoted the best results on T. aff. fothergillae (12.62 and 14.92, respectively) and T2 resulted in maximum values for T. heteromalla (15.65). For RL, T2 and T4 were statistically superior on T. heteromalla (9.52 and 8.20 cm, respectively). The use of IBA and FA is dispensable for rhizogenesis induction on mini-cuttings from the studied species

In the search for more efficient techniques for the propagation of peach cuttings, this study aimed to evaluate the rooting of hardwood cuttings of peach rootstock genotypes under different indolebutyric acid (IBA) concentrations. In the winter of 2016, the basal end of cuttings of genotypes 1701-1, 1701-2, 102-1, 102-2, 202-1 and 'Okinawa' were dipped into solutions with five concentrations of IBA (0, 1000, 2000, 3000 and 4000 mg mg L-1) for 5 seconds. The cuttings were then placed in sand in plastic trays and kept in a mist chamber. The experiment was arranged in a 6x5 factorial, completely randomized design, with 5 replications, and each plot consisted of eight cuttings. After 59 days, the variables related to rooting and root quality were evaluated. Genotypes 102-1 and 202-1 showed high adventitious rooting potential in hardwood cuttings, with 76.8 and 66.5% of rooting, respectively. The concentration of 2000 mg.L-1 of IBA acid can be recommended for the treatment of hardwood cuttings of the tested rootstocks for propagation in the winter.

ABSTRACT The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of six indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) concentrations and three immersion times in IAA solutions on the vegetative propagation of Spondias dulcis and Spondias tuberosa by stem cuttings. The experiment was conducted in a greenhouse, using a completely randomized design, with a 6×3 factorial arrangement consisting of six indole-3-acetic acid concentrations (0, 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 g L-1) and three immersion times (8, 16, and 24 seconds), with ten cuttings of S. dulcis and S. tuberosa per plot, and three replications. Percentage of surviving cuttings, and percentage of rooted cuttings, number of leaf buds, number of roots per cutting, root length, and total fresh weight were evaluated at 180 days after planting. Data were subjected to analysis of variance by the F test and to regression analysis. Vegetative propagation from woody cuttings of S. dulcis is not viable to produce seedlings, thus, new studies on this technique for this species are needed. Vegetative propagation from woody cuttings of S. tuberosa is satisfactory, but with low efficiency for improvement and emergence of new shoots and roots; it is more effective when using a concentration of 10 g L-1 of indole-3-acetic acid and immersion time in the solution of 16 seconds.

One of the difficulties of producing native species seedlings is slow growth. The objective of this study was to evaluate the initial development of Amburana cearensis (Allem.) A. C. Smith in relation to the concentration decomposed buriti stem substratum and nitrogen doses. A completely randomized design was used in a factorial arrangement of 3 × 5 (proportions of decomposed buriti stem × nitrogen doses), with six replicates. The treatments were formulated substrates comprised of decomposed buriti stem manually mixed with soil (Dystrophic Yellow Latosol) in three proportions (0, 25 and 50%) and five nitrogen doses (0, 100, 200, 300 and 400 mg dm-3) applied in treatments. There was no significant interaction between the DRM and ND factors. However, there was an isolated effect for the following variables: Plant height (PH), stem diameter (SD), leaf number (LN), leaf area (LA), dry mass of the aerial part (DMA) and root length (RL). The best concentrations of the substrate for the variables PH, LA and DMA were 25% and 50%, whereas for SD, LN and RL, the best result was 50%. ND and other variables had good responses under recommended doses ranging from a minimum of 264.82 mg dm-3, observed in DMA, and a maximum of 400 mg dm-3, observed in RL. Both factors positively the quality of umburana seedlings.

ABSTRACT Piptocarpha angustifolia is a potential native species for Brazilian forestry. However, a lot of challenges and technical constraints persist, hindering its expansion as a species for forest plantations, among them, the lack of evaluation of their survival and growth in field conditions. Thus, we evaluated the survival and growth vigor of Piptocarpha angustifolia according to two initial heights of mini-cuttings at planting. Plants from mini-cuttings with 20 ± 5 cm and 40 ± 5 cm were planted in field using 3 × 2 m spacing. In these, we evaluated the survival, base diameter and total height during 24 months. The experiment was implemented in a completely randomized design in a split plot model. Plants of 20 ± 5 cm are superior in survival to 40 ± 5 cm ones. The growth in height and diameter remained constant up to 24 months, reaching 64.1 cm and 13.5 mm, independently of the plants expedition time. In general, the establishment of clonal plantation of Piptocarpha angustifolia was limited by the attack of pests, mainly cutting ants. For this reason, plantation of this species must take into account the possibility of greater pest control.

The production of native species seedlings is essential for the establishment of planted forests or for the recovery of degraded areas. In the nursery stage, the quality of the substrate is crucial for plant growth and development. The objective of this work was to evaluate the influence of alternative substrates, produced from agroforestry residues and decomposed forage grasses, on the biomass input and quality of cedar (Cedrela odorata) seedlings. The experiment was carried out in a greenhouse, located in Rio Branco, Acre, in a completely randomized design, with three treatments, consisting of substrates: brachiaria organic compost (1:1); organic compost combined with crushed brazil nut husk (2:1) and commercial substrate, with ten repetitions. At 90 days after sowing, total, shoot and root dry matter and Dickson's quality index were evaluated. The organic compost from Brachiaria grass favors the accumulation of biomass, improves the quality of cedar seedlings and can replace the commercial substrate in a viable way.
