The present work aimed to evaluate the yield in eucalyptus slabs for obtaining battens to be used as raw material in the production of higher added value products. For this purpose, 15 logs of E. grandis and 15 logs of E. saligna, which were separated into three diametric classes of five logs for each species, were used: diametric class 1 (25 - 32 cm), diametric class 2 (33- 39 cm) and diametric class 3 (> 40 cm). Afterwards, they were cubed and evaluated for their taper, and were deployed on a band saw. The slabs were removed to evaluate the quality, yield and yield of slabs obtained for each species studied. The obtained results indicated that a medium classification of the specific gravity obtained, with good dimensional stability of E. grandis and E. saligna wood. The taper of the logs and the yields observed were not significant in both species. However, the yields in slabs and yields in battens had a slight decrease by the increasing of the diameters of the logs. Thus, logs with greater yield in slabs had smaller yields in battens. Therefore, it is possible to use slabs for battens production mainly in the industries that process high amounts of logs.

This study deals with the effect of heat treatment on Pinus oocarpa specimens from forest plantations in Colombia. The effects of two heat treatments at 170 and 190 °C for 2.5 h in saturated vapor were evaluated based on the color, dimensional stability, air-dry and basic densities, modulus of elasticity (MOE), and modulus of rupture (MOR) in static bending of samples. The evaluations were carried out following the Colombian Technical Standards NTC 290 and 663, and the color changes resulting from heat treatments were monitored using the CIE-Lab, as well as other standards from the literature. The results show that there was 2.4% and 3.3% mass loss of wood modified at 170 and 190 °C, respectively. The air-dry and basic densities were higher in 170 °C treatment than after 190 °C treatment, and the thermal modifications applied increased the dimensional stability of the treated wood. After treatment at 170 and 190 °C, the lightness to darkness (L*) was reduced by 10% and 22%; the a* coordinate increased by 11% and 26%, causing redness in the treated wood; the b* coordinate increased by 14% and 17%; and the values of the wood color saturation (c*) increased by 14% and 18%, respectively. The general color change (ΔE*) increased gradually with the increase in the treatment temperature, resulting in a high color change to a very different color. The bending strength of thermally modified wood was improved and significantly increased to values higher than those of unmodified Pinus oocarpa wood. The high air-dry and basic densities, improved dimensional stability and resistance to bending, and attractive appearance of the treated wood indicate that thermal modification is a promising alternative for the transformation of Pinus oocarpa wood into a raw material with a high added value.

The output of thisprogram can provide added value in the form of the use of this tool can improve labor efficiency, increase productivitypartners by producing 40 kg to 50 kg raw material, raw fish marlin, fish meat after cleaning, processed, fried, in andpacked into 80-100 packs of fish floss with the price of Rp. 40,000.00 per package weighing 250 grams. Since invasive alien species are one of the main causes of biodiversity loss in the region and thus of changes in ecosystem services, it is important to find the best possible solution for their removal from nature and the best practice for their usability. The aim of the study was to investigate their properties as components of wood-plastic composites and to investigate the properties of the wood-plastic composites produced. The overall objective was to test the potential of available alien plant species as raw material for the manufacture of products. This would contribute to sustainability and give them a better chance of ending their life cycle. One of the possible solutions on a large scale is to use alien wood species for the production of wood plastic composites (WPC). Five invasive alien hardwood species have been used in combination with polyethylene powder (PE) and maleic anhydride grafted polyethylene (MAPE) to produce various flat pressed WPC boards. Microstructural analyses (confocal laser scanning microscopy and scanning electron microscopy) and mechanical tests (flexural strength, tensile strength) were performed. Furthermore, measurements of density, thickness swelling, water absorption and dimensional stability during heating and cooling were carried out. Comparisons were made between the properties of six WPC boards (five alien wood species and mixed boards). The results showed that the differences between different invasive alien wood species were less obvious in mechanical properties, while the differences in sorption properties and dimensional stability were more significant. The analyses of the WPC structure showed a good penetration of the polymer into the lumens of the wood cells and a fine internal structure without voids. These are crucial conditions to obtain a good, mechanically strong and water-resistant material.

Abstract Coaxial support is a fundamental technique utilized by neurointerventionalists to optimize distal catheter control within the intracranial circulation. Here we present a 41-yr-old woman with a previously coiled ruptured anterior communicating artery aneurysm with progressive recurrence harboring tortuous internal carotid anatomy to demonstrate the utility of coaxial support. Raymond-Roy classification of initial aneurysm coiling of class 1 resulted as class 3b over the 21 mo from initial treatment.1 The patient consented to stent-assisted coiling for retreatment of this aneurysm. Coaxial support was advanced as distally as possible in the proximal vasculature to improve catheter control, reducing dead space within which the microcatheter could move, decreasing angulations within proximal vasculature, limiting the movement of the native vessels, and providing a surface of lower friction than the endothelium. As the risk of recurrent subarachnoid hemorrhage in previously treated coiled aneurysms approaches 3%, retreatment occurs in 16.4% within 6 yr2 and in 17.4% of patients within 10 yr.3 Rerupture is slightly higher in patients who underwent coiling vs clipping, with the rerupture risk inversely proportional to the degree of aneurysm occlusion,4 further substantiating that coaxial support provides technical advantage in selected patients where additional microcatheter control is necessary for optimal occlusion. Pitfalls of this technique include vasospasm and vascular injury, which can be ameliorated by pretreatment of the circulation with vasodilators to prevent catheter-induced vasospasm. This case and model demonstration illustrates the technique of coaxial access in the stent-assisted coiling of a recurrent anterior communicating artery aneurysm and identification and management of catheter-induced vasospasm.

Summary This study was conducted to explore basic physical and mechanical properties of parallel strand lumber (PSL) made exclusively from southern pine and yellow-poplar, respectively, and to examine their relationships using statistical analysis. Small specimens were prepared from commercial southern pine PSL and yellow-poplar PSL billets and tested for specific gravity, moisture content, dimensional stability, bending properties, shear strength and compressive strength. Results indicate average specific gravity of southern pine PSL is higher than that of yellow-poplar PSL, while their average moisture content and dimensional stability are very similar. Southern pine PSL has higher average modulus of elasticity but lower average modulus of rupture than yellow-poplar PSL. While average longitudinal shear strength does not exhibit differences between southern pine PSL and yellow-poplar PSL, average compressive strength of southern pine PSL is higher than that of yellow-poplar PSL. There are positive correlations among modulus of elasticity, modulus of rupture and specific gravity. PSL improves some properties of solid wood from which PSL is made.

Cocoa bean (Theobrama cacao) is an essential raw material in the manufacture of chocolate, and their classification is crucial for the synthesis of good chocolate flavour. Cocoa beans appear to be very similar to one another when visualised. Hence, an electronic device named the electronic nose (E-Nose) is used to classify the odor of cocoa beans to give the best cocoa bean quality. E-nose is a set of an array of chemical sensors used to sense the gas vapours produced by the cocoa bean and the raw data collected was kept in Microsoft Excel, and the classification took place in Octave. They then underwent normalisation technique to increase classification accuracy, and their features were extracted using mean calculation. The features were classified using CBR, and the similarity value is obtained. The results show that CBR's classification accuracy, specificity and sensitivity are all 100%.

For economic entities, business partnerships are not based on individual competition or improving individual business processes, but on improving supply chains. When making management decisions, the question arises about the performance indicators of business processes both at the level of an economic entity and at the macro level. When assessing the effectiveness of supply chains, it is necessary to assess the costs arising in the course of financial and economic activities. The logistics component has a large share in the supply costs. A full accounting of logistics costs allows you to obtain reliable information for the analysis and development of measures to reduce them, which increases the efficiency of the entire economic activity of an economic entity. The article proposes a classification of logistics costs according to the degree of added value creation and dependence on the volume of production, including the allocation of transaction costs, which make up a significant share in the overall structure of logistics costs. The classification of logistics costs should be transformed depending on the organizational and legal form of the organization and the field of activity. The system of accounting for the logistics costs of economic entities should highlight them when implementing all logistics functions; study information about the most significant logistics costs and the nature of their occurrence; study the interdependencies of logistics costs throughout the entire supply chain. The developed system allows keeping separate accounting of logistics costs on a separate account, which makes it possible to control them. In modern conditions, organizations are faced with the need to integrate various types of accounting, including accounting, management and statistical. The algorithm for the implementation of this task includes four stages: development of a methodology for the integration of accounting, management and statistical accounting; formation of management accounting policies; development of data transformation regulations; selection of software for the automation of statistical, accounting and management accounting

Este trabalho teve como objetivo a caracterização anatômica e físico-mecânica da madeira de Liquidambar sp. Para tanto, foram utilizadas três árvores com oito anos de idade, provenientes de um arboreto localizado do município de Guaçuí, Espírito Santo. As características anatômicas analisadas foram as dimensões das fibras (comprimento, diâmetro total e do lume e espessura da parede), dos elementos de vasos (diâmetro tangencial e frequência) e dos raios (altura, largura e frequência). Para a caracterização físico-mecânica foram avaliadas a massa específica (básica, aparente a 12% de umidade e anidra), as contrações totais lineares e volumétrica, a resistência à flexão estática, à compressão paralela às fibras, ao cisalhamento e dureza Janka. Constatou-se frequência vascular numerosa com vasos de pequeno diâmetro tangencial, raios heterocelulares ocorrendo em baixa frequência, e fibras libriformes longas de paredes delgadas a espessas. A massa específica básica da madeira proveniente de discos retirados a 1,30 m do nível do solo foi de 0,48 g cm-3, sendo considerada média, a estabilidade dimensional foi considerada baixa, e houve grande influência da umidade nos valores de resistência da madeira. AbstractAnatomical and physical-mechanical characterization of Liquidambar sp. wood. This research aimed to improve anatomical, physical and mechanical characterization of Liquidambar sp.wood. Three trees were obtained, at eight years of age, from an arboretum located in Guaçuí, Espírito Santo State, Brazil. The analyzed variables were dimensions of the fibers (length, total diameter and diameter of the lumen and wall thickness), the vessel elements (tangential diameter and frequency), and ray (height, width and frequency). The specific gravity (basic, at 12% moisture content and dry), and total volumetric and linear shrinkages, resistance to bending, compression parallel to the fibers, shear and Janka hardness. For anatomical description it was found numerous vessels often with small tangential diameter, heterocellular rays occurring at low frequency, and long libriform fibers with thick to thin walls. The specific gravity of wood from disks taken at 1.30 m from ground level was 0.48 g cm-3, wich we considered average, the dimensional stability was low, and there was great influence of moisture in the resistance values in wood.Keywords: Anatomy; specific gravity; dimensional stability; mechanical strength.

The article focuses on the chronological status of the distribution of ‘chocolate’ silicite originating from the area of south-east Poland in the prehistory of the Czech lands. The flow of ‘chocolate’ silicite across the Carpathian Mountains culminated in the period of the Stroke-Ornamented Ware culture (5100/5000–4500/4400 cal BC) in the area studied. Based on the analysis of the contexts of finds and the classification of the artefacts, the raw material is interpreted as an indicator of the presence of individuals or groups with an exclusive social status. Both the pattern of distribution and the status are common to other ‘exotic’ raw materials, especially for Carpathian obsidian, in the studied area in that same period. By comparing the spatial and chronological image expansion of both materials can lead to similar conclusions in their assessment

This paper presents research results of the Bugojno coal basin, which contains very significant, but still insufficiently explored lignite reserves. Based on the determined borders of surface distribution and the research results in the northwestern part of the Bugojno coal basin, proved are four coal layers with reserves of over one billion tons of coal. Discussed are geological characteristics of coal layers, their qualitative-quantitative characteristics, spatial potential of deposit and classification of coal layers. Considering the raw material potential and the possibility of expanding the existing raw material base, the Bugojno coal basin has particular importance for the long-term development of lignite exploitation and its use for thermal energy purposes.
