Many approaches have been proposed using Electroencephalogram (EEG) to detect epilepsy seizures in their early stages. Epilepsy seizure is a severe neurological disease. Practitioners continue to rely on manual testing of EEG signals. Artificial intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) can effectively deal with this problem. ML can be used to classify EEG signals employing feature extraction techniques. This work focuses on automated detection for epilepsy seizures using ML techniques. Various algorithms are investigated, such as  Bagging, Decision Tree (DT), Adaboost, Support vector machine (SVM), K-nearest neighbors(KNN), Artificial neural network(ANN), Naïve Bayes, and Random Forest (RF) to distinguish injected signals from normal ones with high accuracy. In this work, 54 Discrete wavelet transforms (DWTs) are used for feature extraction, and the similarity distance is applied to identify the most powerful features. The features are then selected to form the features matrix. The matrix is subsequently used to train ML. The proposed approach is evaluated through different metrics such as F-measure, precision, accuracy, and Recall. The experimental results show that the SVM and Bagging classifiers in some data set combinations, outperforming all other classifiers

Glaucoma disease diagnosis greatly based on the accurate retinal image segmentation and classification of images. Segmentation means to divide the images into a patchwork of regions, each of which is “homogeneous”, that is the “same” in some sense. Using discrete wavelet transform, the segmented images are classified by Support Vector Machine (SVM) classifiers to classify the Glaucoma images. The proposed Support Vector Machine classifier is used to extract the information rely on the Region of Interest (ROI) from original retinal fundus image. Thus the classification result are used to find the normal and abnormal image and also to compute the normal and abnormal accuracies. We observed an accuracy of around 93% using data set by SVM classifier.

Support vector machine (SVM) is suitable for the classification problem which is of small sample, nonlinear, high dimension. SVM in data preprocessing phase, often use genetic algorithm for feature extraction, although it can improve the accuracy of classification. But in feature extraction stage the weak directivity of genetic algorithm impact the time and accuracy of the classification. The ant colony algorithm is used in genetic algorithm selection stage, which is better for the data pretreatment, so as to improve the classification speed and accuracy. The experiment in the KDD99 data set shows that this method is feasible.

We address with this paper some real-life healthy and epileptic EEG signals classification. Our proposed method is based on the use of the discrete wavelet transform (DWT) and Support Vector Machine (SVM). For each EEG signal, five wavelet decomposition level is applied which allow obtaining five spectral sub-bands correspond to five rhythms (Delta, Theta, Alpha, Beta and gamma). After the extraction of some features on each sub-band (energy, standard deviation, and entropy) a moving average (MA) is applied to the resulting features vectors and then used as inputs to SVM to train and test. We test the method on EEG signals during two datasets: normal and epileptics, without and with using MA to compare results. Three parameters are evaluated such as sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy to test the performances of the used methods.

Aims: Skin cancer is a fairly critical disease all over the world and especially in Western countries and America. However, if it is perceived and treated early, it is quite often curable. The main risk factors for melanoma are exposure to UV rays, the presence of many moles, and heredity. For this reason, this work focuses on the issue of automatic diagnosis of melanoma. The aim is to extract significant features from pixels of the images based on an unsupervised deep learning technique which is the sparse autoencoder method. Methodology: A preprocessing phase is required to remove the artifacts and enhance the contrast of the images before proceeding with the feature extraction. Once the characteristics are extracted automatically, the support vector machine classifier and the k-nearest neighbors are applied for the classification phase. The objective is to differentiate between 3 categories: melanoma, suspected case, and non-melanoma. Finally, the PH2 database is used to test the proposed approaches (200 images are presented in this dataset: 80 atypical nevi, 80 common nevi, and 40 melanoma). Results: The obtained results in terms of specificity, accuracy, and sensitivity present noticeable performances with the support vector machine classifier (achieved 94 % overall accuracy) and the k-nearest neighbors (92 %). Conclusion: This study's experimental findings showed that the best performance was obtained by the approach based on a deep sparse autoencoder combined with support vector machine.

The aim of the study is to compare electroencephalographic (EEG) signal feature extraction methods in the context of the effectiveness of the classification of brain activities. For classification, electroencephalographic signals were obtained using an EEG device from 17 subjects in three mental states (relaxation, excitation, and solving logical task). Blind source separation employing independent component analysis (ICA) was performed on obtained signals. Welch’s method, autoregressive modeling, and discrete wavelet transform were used for feature extraction. Principal component analysis (PCA) was performed in order to reduce the dimensionality of feature vectors. k-Nearest Neighbors (kNN), Support Vector Machines (SVM), and Neural Networks (NN) were employed for classification. Precision, recall, F1 score, as well as a discussion based on statistical analysis, were shown. The paper also contains code utilized in preprocessing and the main part of experiments.

BackgroundIn recent years, with the acceleration of life rhythm and increased pressure, the problem of sleep disorders has become more and more serious. It affects people’s quality of life and reduces work efficiency, so the monitoring and evaluation of sleep quality is of great significance. Sleep staging has an important reference value in sleep quality assessment. This article starts with the study of sleep staging to detect and analyze sleep quality. For the purpose of sleep quality detection, this article proposes a sleep quality detection method based on electroencephalography (EEG) signals.Materials and MethodsThis method first preprocesses the EEG signals and then uses the discrete wavelet transform (DWT) for feature extraction. Finally, the transfer support vector machine (TSVM) algorithm is used to classify the feature data.ResultsThe proposed algorithm was tested using 60 pieces of data from the National Sleep Research Resource Library of the United States, and sleep quality was evaluated using three indicators: sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy. Experimental results show that the classification performance of the TSVM classifier is significantly higher than those of other comparison algorithms. This further validated the effectiveness of the proposed sleep quality detection method.

Recommendation systems are subdivision of Refine Data that request to anticipate ranking or liking a user would give to an item. Recommended systems produce user customized exhortations for product or service. Recommended systems are used in different services like Google Search Engine, YouTube, Gmail and also Product recommendation service on any E-Commerce website. These systems usually depends on content based approach. in this paper, we develop these type recommended systems by using several algorithms like K-Nearest neighbors(KNN), Support-Vector Machine(SVM), Logistic Regression(LR), MultinomialNB(MNB),and Multi-layer Perception(MLP). This paper aims to present a prognostic method for induction motor shafts that experience fatigue failure in the keyway area, using motor vibration signals. Preprocessing the data to eliminate noise in raw signals is done by decomposing the signal, using discrete wavelet transforms. Prognostic indicator candidates are obtained through the selection of features based on its importance, which involve the superposition of monotonicity and trendability parameters. The prognostics model is built based on the least squares support vector machine regression approach. Remaining useful life (RUL) estimates of motor shafts were performed by fitting the sum of two exponential functions to the regression results and extrapolating over time until the specified failure threshold hits. The results of the study show that the proposed method can work satisfactorily to estimate the RUL of motor shaft. The best prognostic indicator namely the RMS, can be used to predict the motor shaft RUL since 50% of the time step before the end of the motor shaft life is error bound within 20%.
