Purpose –Covid-19 pandemic has created a negative impact on China's national economy and social development, and the tourism industry has been hit particularly hard. This paper analyzes the current situation of tourism development in China during the pandemic, as well as the strategies and approaches adopted for tourism recovery.Design/methodology/approach – Secondary data and in-depth interview were adopted to identify the characteristics of tourism industry and challenges posed by the pandemic on China’s tourism.Findings – This paper focuses on the diversified and personalized modern tourism and leisure needs of tourists to establish an effective tourism supply system.Originality/value – Bassd on the practical challenges and feasible opportunities, we then discuss- relevant strategies and put forward suggestions for future tourism research and practice.

According to the data published by JTB Tourism Research & Consulting Co., for the period beginning 1990 until 2019, the growth rate of inbound tourism in Japan has shown a steady increase which resulted in an average of 11.5% every year. This encouraging development was the result of the full-fledged ‘‘Inbound Tourism Initiative’’ campaign launched in 2003, which originally aimed at attracting 10 million foreign tourists to Japan in 2010. However, it is undeniable that there were so many challenges Japan had to overcome alongside that process due to problems that arise out of things beyond control such as natural disasters and epidemics. This article discusses in detail the volatile situation plaguing the inbound tourism industry in Japan. Analyzing from one single perspective that is why people would or would not travel to Japan, this paper seeks to observe how Japan managed to realize the inbound tourism rebound after disasters and epidemics. By employing secondary data analysis, this effort aims to present data about the determinants and factors influencing inbound tourism to Japan from as many countries as possible. This work will then examine in depth the challenges and opportunities that Japan might need to deal with in addressing the impact of COVID-19 on inbound tourism by taking Malaysia as a case study.

This study identifies the potential of tourism products in Sukajadi Village Bogor Regency based on ten (10) tourism components as well as its development strategy, which is currently included in the category of a newly developing tourist village. The results of this research are aggressive and serious development strategies in all aspects of the tourism component, namely increasing the quality and diversification of tourist attractions and activities, accessibility, improving the quality and quantity of tourism amenities, improving the quality of human resources & institutions, community support, land use, tourism industry cooperation, as well as marketing aspects. This research type is a descriptive qualitative with a case study exploratory approach. Primary data is obtained from direct observation and interviews with key informants, namely Pokdarwis and the Village Head, while secondary data is the result of literature studies and research documentation. The analysis technique of this research uses SWOT analysis and Matrix, analysis of the work program of the vision for tourism development of the Bogor Regency Government which refers to local government master plan for tourism development (RIPPARDA), and also analysis of the Cleanlines, Health, Safety and Environmental Sustainability (CHSE) guidelines.

In the light of the unique experiences of the 7th ICSDAP Conference, this article includes a brief background, details of activities, challenges and opportunities, and outputs and outcomes. Our experiences and reflections suggest that organising international conferences to bring social development scholars together to deliberate on mutual areas of research and practice interests undoubtedly contributes to critical examination and dissemination of knowledge, at least to some extent. In addition, what is equally important, the process and experience of organising conferences appear to enhance our and host organisation’s learning and capacity-building, yielding benefit for everyone to build a better future by overcoming all the odds.

The phenomenon of Mount Agung eruption has a negative impact on Ubud tourism. The impact of this event was greater than the 2002 Bali bombing. Generally, governments and tourism actors in Ubud have no yet a specific management to reduce the negative impact of Mount Agung eruptions. This research is qualitative descriptive method approach with case study research. Primary data in this study were obtained from interviews with informants namely; government, tourism institutions (NGOs) and tourism industry players in Ubud. Researchers also used online desk research to collect the secondary data that already exists on the internet from trusted sources in the form of public documents (images, e-news), or personal documents (e-mail, work reports and results of minute meetings). The result of this study, there were obtained four stages of crisis handling carried out by Ubud’s tourism actors namely 4R such as, reduction, readiness, response, and recovery. To minimize the negative impact of Mount Agung eruption, stakeholder needs synergetic all elements such government, non-government organizations (NGOs), industry actors, communities and other stakeholders to keep tourism sector remains conducive. The scientific and practical problems of investment and social development of the tourist industry are investigated. The analysis of condition and tendencies of investment processes development in tourism branch is carried out, as well as priority directions of investment in the national industry of tourism are revealed. It is established that successful development of the tourism industry is impossible without active influence of the state on conditions of its functioning. Participation of the state will consist in development of the actions containing the following: establishment of tax privileges, protection against the double taxation; sale, rent of the ground or objects of infrastructure priced below market rates; direct grants, granting of guarantees under investments with the purpose of attraction of foreign investors. The system of actions in context of creation of the favorable investment environment in tourism sphere is offered. It include establishment of the rate of profit tax for priority directions of activity (incoming and internal tourism); tax exemption of means invested in construction or reconstruction of tourism objects; credit relaxation for making investments with indemnification of difference in rates by the state for firms focused on incoming and internal tourism; adjustment of investment insurance system in tourism and so forth. Complex model of maintenance of tourism industry competitiveness, which takes into account system action of the investment factors providing functioning and development of economic subjects at horizontal level (technologies, infrastructure, competition, demand, adjacent branches), is developed. The given factors are included in uniform vertical of management (national economy - tourism - regional tourist complex - tourism enterprise) and are subordinated to the strategic purpose - to maintenance of tourism sphere competitiveness in system of national economy of the Russian Federation. It is proved that maintenance of steady development of the tourism industry appreciably should be based on infrastructure modernization of tourism and recreational sphere. It is necessary to introduce the special investment mode for assistance to construction and reconstruction of hotels and other objects of a tourism infrastructure that will induce foreign and domestic investors to put means in the tourism industry.

West Nias Regency has an enormous potential tourist destination, namely the Hinako Islands which consists of eight beautiful small islands. Yet the limited infrastructure and capacity of human resources have become the obstacle for this potential. The purpose of this study is to provide recommendations for tourism development strategies in the Hinako Islands to increase local government revenues (PAD) and the welfare of local communities. The research question is how is the strategy of the local government in developing tourism in the Hinako Islands?. This research is a field research, qualitative analytical descriptive type. The primary data of the research were observation and in-depth interviews, also supported by secondary data in the form of documentation and relevant literature studies. This study recommends a tourism development model consisting of 3 elements, namely: 1) West Nias Regency Government as a facilitator to provide tourism facilities and infrastructure; And as a regulator to formulate and enforce tourism business rules for the benefit of the Regional Original Income (PAD) and bring prosperity to local communities. 2) Private, namely existing investors, new investors with an ecotourism pattern, and village-owned enterprises (BUM-Des) to work on the industry in the concept of tourism agromina. 3) Community, to be a friendly host for tourists by providing guarantees for tourist safety, maintaining environmental cleanliness, and providing memorable experiences for tourists. The recommended strategies include strategies for developing tourism destinations, the tourism industry, tourism marketing, and tourism institutions.

The dynamics of tourism as an economic driver will greatly affect the environment in tourism development in Bintan Regency. One of the influencing environment is the internal condition in tourism management which is the reason for the need to map the problem. This paper focuses on environmental studies of the community, private sector, local government in the internal tourism of Bintan Regency in 2019. The research uses a literature study using secondary data which is analyzed in depth. The results showed that the internal analysis of tourism which includes 3 main components of tourism development, namely sustainable improvement of the tourism industry, improving institutional quality both in vertical agencies and the role of local communities which is very important in developing tourism in Bintan Regency. With the existence of three main components in the analysis of the internal environment for tourism in Bintan Regency, it is hoped that it can have a positive impact in a sustainable manner.

In the article attention is paid to tourism development in Georgia and introduction of marketing conceptions in conditions of Covid-19. The aim of research is investigation of difficulties related to marketing using in tourism field, introduction of marketing conceptions in tourist firms and taking marketing arrangements in the conditions of Pandemic. In the work there is underlined that tourism development and visiting of guests in the country is depended on marketing activity in the conditions of Pandemic nowadays. At the standpoint of its development and regeneration, it’s necessary the tourist firms to be involved in tourism industry ,to pay attention to the principles of modern management and marketing. In the work there is mentioned that if the consumers aren’t be analyzed according to demographic, geographical, psychological, economic factors and tourists aren’t be divided into segments, it’s impossible to achieve serious success in the business. In the work there are elaborated and defined the recommendations and proposals of which consideration will give us the possibility to overcome the crisis, to improve the flow of tourists in the country and to increase the number of the local visitors. Experience from many countries shows that tourism contributes greatly to the economic growth that can improve the welfare and quality of citizens’ lives. To enhance the role of the tourism sector to improve the economy, increasing the competitiveness of this sector is the key. For Indonesia, which has great potential in the tourism sector, tourism development strategies are needed to improve the competitiveness of the tourism industry. The purpose of this study is to determine the position of competitiveness in Indonesia’s tourism sector, especially compared to some major ASEAN countries, and propose appropriate tourism development strategies. After mapping the condition of Indonesia’s tourism competitiveness compared to some other major ASEAN countries, this study uses STP (segmenting, targeting, and positioning) to find appropriate tourism development strategies. This research utilizes secondary data. The results show that compared to some other major ASEAN countries (Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand), Indonesia's tourism competitiveness in some aspects is low, although this condition has improved in recent years. However, given the demands of the dynamic tourism market, the competitiveness needs to be improved continuously. This necessitates special strategies, so that the efforts match with the target. This research was aimed to determine the public’s perceptions toward the attraction of Tajwid Lake. This research was also to describe the impact of Tajwid Lake attraction on local communities.The methodology used in this research was qualitative method. The data source in this research was consisted of primary and secondary data. Data collecting technique used in this research were participatory observation, in-depth interview, documentation and literature review. This research was conducted for two months. The results of the study indicated that the turning of Tajwid Lake into a tourist spot cannot be separated from various problems that cause the various public’s perceptions, both pros and cons. The impact of turning Tajwid Lake into a tourist spot is the presence of a recreation area for the community and providing space to increase income such as selling and providing services for tourists so that it can help the community's economy. However, it also has a negative impact on the community, especially those who make a living as fishermen, it because Tajwid Lake was place for fishermen to get their fish. Since Tajwid Lake became a tourist spot, it has been difficult to get the fish due to the dredging of the lake for tourism purposes, as well as restrictions for fishermen looking for fish in the lake to avoid the interfere with tourist activities. It caused the fishermen losing their place to get fish. Therefore at the time they looked for fish to go far up the river, and reduced the catches which have an impact on their economy.
