Assessing the competencies of students is an important and challenging task. The article presents the experience of evaluating the universal competencies of students. We created individual and group exercises, criteria for evaluating the results of these exercises for assessing the universal competencies of students. In addition to expert evaluation, students were interviewed to identify their self-esteem. The created assessment tools were used for several years at the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics of the Pskov State University to assess the universal competencies of first year students (more than 200 students participated). Some research results are analyzed in the article.

This study aimed to explain the relationship between self-concept and mathematics procedural knowledge among undergraduate students of mathematics education. This study investigated the affective and cognitive aspect of students in the learning of mathematics. The method in this study surveyed with non-probability sampling technique. The subjects were 133 undergraduate students of mathematics education from public and private university in Palembang, Indonesia. 66 of them were undergraduate students in public university. The rest of them were undergraduate students in a private university. The instruments that were used are questionnaire of self-concept and essay test of mathematics procedural knowledge. The result from the Spearman Rank Correlation showed Sig. = 0.006 < 0.05. From that result, we conclude that there is a significant relationship between undergraduate students’ self-concept and their mathematics procedural knowledge.

The article discusses some methods for numerically finding the roots of nonlinear equations, which are determined by numerical methods using the construction of a spreadsheet Microsoft Excel and an application in the Visual Basic for Applications environment. The simplest methods are used: the binary division method and the chord method. The article presents the construction of spreadsheets, the algorithm, the method of creation the VBA application, and the text of the corresponding procedures. The material of the article can be used in informatics courses, both at school and at university, for the development of interdisciplinary connections between informatics and mathematics and expanding ideas about the possibilities of spreadsheets. The problems presented in the article were successfully solved by 10th grade students (profile "Mathematics. Informatics") and first-year students of pedagogical university of the profiles "Physics. Mathematics", "Physics. Informatics". The article reflects the author's personal experience of teaching the course "Informatics" at South Ural State University of Humanities and Education and at school.

The current era of education is entering Education 4.0 as a result of Industrial Revolution 4.0. The quality of learning can be improved by integrating STEM-based learning models. STEM is an integration of science, technology, engineering and mathematics, which is in accordance with Industrial Revolution 4.0. Handayani (2019) researched the development of STEM-based learning models for prospective economics teachers (a case study at state teacher colleges in East Java) and found that by carrying out STEM-based learning, the pedagogical ability of prospective economic teachers (S1 Economics Education students) in East Java had a significant increase of 14.5 at the State University of Malang (UM), 12.15 at the State University of Surabaya (UNESA) and 13.56 at the Jember State University (UNEJ). Based on these results, it can be said that the STEM model can be applied to support teachers’ pedagogical abilities in the era of Industrial Revolution 4.0. This study aimed to analyze STEM-based lesson plan development at SMAN 1 Kota Batu. Descriptive qualitative methods were used. The results indicated that: 1) the preparation of lesson plans in economic subjects was carried out well; 2) the development of STEM-based lesson plans can be applied in economic learning; and 3) the STEM-based lesson plans that were developed succeeded in improving student learning outcomes. The purpose of this research is to identify which aspects of the communication skills and mathematics connections of the prospective mathematics teacher that need to be improved. The subjects of the research were 34 fourth-semester students of Mathematics Education Study Program, State University of Yogyakarta, Indonesia, who took Discrete Mathematics course from February to May 2012. The identifications are done through 6 times by quizzes/tests. The aspect of mathematical communication that had been studied was the ability of students in: (1) writing the statements, reasons, or explanations, and (2) using terms, notations, tables, diagrams, charts, drawings, illustrations, mathematical models, or formulas. While the aspect of mathematical connections that had been examined was the ability of students in: (1) stating the relationship between facts, concepts, or mathematics principles, (2) developing a mathematical model of the daily life problems, and (3) mentioning the concept underlying the solution from the given mathematical problems. Results shows that the students tend to be weak in: (1) writing down the reasons, (2) using charts, pictures, and illustrations, and (3) developing a mathematical model.

Understanding the production of knowledge and bodies as propositions and compositions of culturalpractices, we place ourselves in this manuscript to think about the constitutions of bodies and corporealities in cyberspace. This, however, is part of a larger dissertation research, developed in the Graduate Program in Teaching Science and Mathematics Education of the State University of Londrina. Thus, we aim, in this work, to draw up considerations about the confessional technologies as instruments of embodiment and virtualization of the bodies. The considerations are raised from the theoretical reference of inspiration in the Cultural Studies of Sciences and of Education and the contributions left by Michel Foucault. We appropriate such theorizations in the production of analytical lenses, which help us during the process of anthropological immersion carried out in a group-space of the facebook social network, identified here as Vale. This immersion moves in order to inquire about multiple ontologies of the bodies, being used in this manuscript, the concept of technologies of confessionalities. We show in the group, confessional regimes that are active by: a) Confession of micro-stories, in publications, as a way of telling oneself; b) Invitations to confessions as operant of agency of wills and production of archives; and (c) response to invitations to confession.

The third phase of the planned three-year research objected to test and to justify the results of the development of the Analytic Geometry module and cooperative learning models assisted with Macromedia flash animation to improve students’ critical thinking skills. Research subjects were students of the Study Program: Mathematics and Mathematics Education, University of State Medan, and Mathematics Education at Muslim Nusantara University, Alwashliyah Medan. This study used developmental research oriented to product development that refers to the 4-D model, which was defining, designing, developing, and disseminating. This third stage produced analytic geometry modules and cooperative learning models supported by Macromedia flash animation as well as instruments of critical thinking skills and positive attitudes toward the justified learning modules and models. These learning modules and models were arranged in the form of lecturer manuals and student books (modules).

The purpose of this  research is to develop mathematics learning devices in the form of Lesson Plan (RPP) and Student Assignment (LKPD) based Realistic Mathematics Education(RME) on probability materials in line with curriculum 2013. In addition, this research aims to describe the quality of developed learning devices in both validity and practicality aspects. This is a development research with 4D model including define, design, develop and disseminate. The researcher modified the development model by simplified the model through limit the research up to develop stage by considering the time and the cost. The define stage consists of: a) curriculum analysis; b) student analysis; and c) concept analysis. The design stage consists of: a) Lesson Plan design; b) Student Assignment design; c) instrument design and validation on assessment instrument of learning devices. Meanwhile, the develop stage consists of: a) the validation of learning devices by the expert and mathematics teacher; b) testing; and c) the questionnaire of both teacher and students responses. This research produces mathematics learning devices in the form of Lesson Plan and Student Assignment basedRealistic Mathematics Education (RME) on Probability materials class X. The research findings shows that according to expert and mathematics teacher assessment, the developed learning devices are valid with 3.25 on average for lesson plan and 3.48 on average for student assignment. The result of the teacher response on the questionnaire shows that student response and interview display that mathematics learning devices in the form of lesson plan and student assignment are practical to be used on mathematics learning particularly on probability materials with 3.50 on average for Lesson Plan and 3.30 on average for Student Assignment.
