Education plays a pivotal role in a country’s progress and rejuvenation. As the most basic and vital stage in education, parenting exerts an invaluable role in supporting the progress of children. Under the influence of production mode, geographical environment, national policy and other factors, education in different countries takes on a unique and distinguishable character in correspondence with its cultural and geographical contexts. China and America are two prominent countries on the world map which represent, in many ways, divergent national culture models. Taking Strodtbeck and Kluckhohn’s theory of cultural values combined with Hofstede’s national culture model as the theoretical framework, and the novel The Joy Luck Club as data, the study investigates differences in Chinese and American parenting in terms of cultural values from the perspectives of humankind and nature, time orientation, activity orientation and social relationships. Comparing the two styles of parenting, the study argues that Chinese parenting is distinguishable from American parenting in many aspects, including parenting idea, parenting content and parenting method. Adopting a monitoring role, the Chinese parents foreground criticism in parenting, whereas American parents tend to prefer encouragement as the cornerstone of their parenting style, demonstrating a democratic approach and magnanimity towards their children.

Co-culture models have become mandatory for obtaining better insights into bone homeostasis, which relies on the balance between osteoblasts and osteoclasts. Cigarette smoking (CS) has been proven to increase the risk of osteoporosis; however, there is currently no proven treatment for osteoporosis in smokers excluding cessation. Bisphosphonates (BPs) are classical anti-osteoclastic drugs that are commonly used in examining the suitability of bone co-culture systems in vitro as well as to verify the response to osteoporotic stimuli. In the present study, we tested the effects of BPs on cigarette smoke extract (CSE)-affected cells in the co-culture of osteoblasts and osteoclasts. Our results showed that BPs were able to reduce CSE-induced osteoporotic alterations in the co-culture of osteoblasts and osteoclasts such as decreased matrix remodeling, enhanced osteoclast activation, and an up-regulated receptor activator of nuclear factor (NF)-kB-ligand (RANKL)/osteoprotegerin (OPG) ratio. In summary, BPs may be an effective alternative therapy for reversing osteoporotic alterations in smokers, and the potential mechanism is through modulation of the RANKL/OPG ratio.

This article is going to discuss about national policy in the development of environment concept, or known as Ecodevelopment. The focus of this article will be more illuminated on the decreasing of causal factor of development in Indonesia. Ecodevelopment strategy consist of especially elements are community different from others, specific cultural values, live in specific territories, and specific resources too. Because of ecodevelopment strategy goals are reform and develop specific conditions, not create "development" in term GNP (Gross National Product) or another abstraction. Ecodevelopment can be applied in various local ecosystem according cultural and ecology data from specific community. Now, Indonesia active doing development in all aspect, be up against some problems of ecology acpect. Ecodevelopment policies are approach of resources management, the welfare meaning, responsibility from inter-generation, and factor of problems. Culture models of the blood-brain barrier (BBB) are important research tools. Their role in the preclinical phase of drug development to estimate the permeability for potential neuropharmaceuticals is especially relevant. Since species differences in BBB transport systems exist, primate models are considered as predictive for drug transport to brain in humans. Based on our previous expertise we have developed and characterized a non-human primate co-culture BBB model using primary cultures of monkey brain endothelial cells, rat brain pericytes, and rat astrocytes. Monkey brain endothelial cells in the presence of both pericytes and astrocytes (EPA model) expressed enhanced barrier properties and increased levels of tight junction proteins occludin, claudin-5, and ZO-1. Co-culture conditions also elevated the expression of key BBB influx and efflux transporters, including glucose transporter-1, MFSD2A, ABCB1, and ABCG2. The correlation between the endothelial permeability coefficients of 10 well known drugs was higher (R2 = 0.8788) when the monkey and rat BBB culture models were compared than when the monkey culture model was compared to mouse in vivo data (R2 = 0.6619), hinting at transporter differences. The applicability of the new non-human primate model in drug discovery has been proven in several studies.

Nations have been questioned as meaningful units for analyzing culture due to their allegedly limited variance-capturing power and large internal heterogeneity. Against this skepticism, we argue that culture is by definition a collective phenomenon and focusing on individual differences contradicts the very concept of culture. Through the “miracle of aggregation,” we can eliminate random noise and arbitrary variation at the individual level in order to distill the central cultural tendencies of nations. Accordingly, we depict national culture as a gravitational field that socializes individuals into the orbit of a nation’s central cultural tendency. Even though individuals are also exposed to other gravitational forces, subcultures in turn gravitate within the limited orbit of their national culture. Using data from the World Values Survey, we show that individual values cluster in concentric circles around their nation’s cultural gravity center. We reveal the miracle of aggregation by demonstrating that nations capture the bulk of the variation in the individuals’ cultural values once they are aggregated into lower-level territorial units such as towns and sub-national regions. We visualize the gravitational force of national cultures by plotting various intra-national groups from five large countries that form distinct national clusters. Contrary to many scholars’ intuitions, alternative social aggregates, such as ethnic, linguistic, and religious groups, as well as diverse socio-demographic categories, add negligible explained variance to that already captured by nations.

AbstractThe framework of the economic growth study consists in exploring the performance of productive factors, both in quality and quantity, of the interplay of these factors with the domestic product, all influenced by the political, social and international context. In the aim of complementing the formal growth theory with empirical referents and emphasize the importance of considering additional elements in this process, this research focuses on the potential link between the cultural values of a selected group of countries and other production factors, in order to explore whether such informal social capital influences decisively its creation and performance. This work also includes two variables related to equity and environmental care, considered as essential inputs for sustainable competitiveness and growth, as well as the analysis on how these variables are affected by the national culture. Results demonstrate that culture influences all of them through different channels and that even though this relationship is not stable over time or vary according to the degree of competitiveness reached by a country, is consistent across nations and at different stages of economic development.

The novel Second Thoughts deals with the story of a young middle class Bengali girl who marries a Bombay based foreign returned Bengali Boy. The story depicts the disillusionment of a married woman and an explosive tale of love and betrayal that exposes the hollowness of human relationship especially within arranged marriages. This chapter deals with the concept of Micro-Politics which is a significant dogma of postfeminism. Micro-Politics believes that there has been drastic change in the position of women in basic social relationships, within the families, workplace and other public spheres. Postfeministic notion of micro-politics is intended to provide insight into the complicated nexus of relationship and also to rethink this same concept in terms of postfeminism.
