Aim: This study aimed to evaluate and compare retention force of two implants retained mandibular overdenture with zirconia bar using two different clip materials. Methodology: 20 completely edentulous patients (8 women and 12 men) with age ranged between 45 and 65 years were selected for this study. All patients received conventional maxillary and mandibular complete dentures. Two implants were inserted bilaterally in the mandibular canine region. CAD-CAM fabricated zirconia bar attachment was used to retain mandibular overdentures. Patients were randomly divided into two equal groups where poly-oxy-methylene (POM) clip was used for Group I and poly-ether-ether-ketone (PEEK) clip for Group II. Retention force was measured at time of overdenture insertion (T0), six months (T6), and twelve months (T12) later. Results: significant difference was recorded between the two groups in initial retention forces (T0) where PEEK clip group recorded higher retention forces in comparison to POM clip group (P=0.029). However, insignificant difference was observed at (T6) and (T12). Within group comparison of mean retention values at different follow-up periods revealed significant difference for both groups. Conclusion: Within parameters of this study, it could be concluded that both POM and PEEK retentive clips can provide comparable retention forces when used with zirconia bar during 12 months period of overdenture use.   How to cite this article: Emera RMK, Altonbary GY. Purpose: Evaluation of implant overdenture retention at 23mm standard inter-implant distance using OT Equator and locator attachments. Materials and methods: Twelve completely edentulous patients were selected for this study. For all patients, conventional complete dentures were constructed. Mandibular dentures were replicated into stereolithographic implant placement guide using CBCT. Every participant received 2-implants in the anterior mandibular area with inter-implant distance of 23 mm. After the osseointegration period, the mandibular conventional dentures were converted into implant retained overdentures attached with Locator attachment for (group I) (six patients) and OT Equator attachments for (group II) (six patients). Retention was evaluated for conventional mandibular complete dentures (T0), 3-months (T3) and, 6-months (T6) after overdenture insertion using digital force-meter. Results: Results revealed that there was a statistically significant difference between the study groups representing mean retention force (P<0.05) except at T0 (baseline evaluation with conventional dentures) with higher mean values for group I (Locator attachment) than group II (OT Equator attachment). Conclusion: Regarding the limitations of this study: -Inter-implant distance of 23 mm for 2-implant overdentures could be considered a reliable modality for edentulous mandible. -Locator attachment may be preferable than OT Equator attachment regarding 2-implant overdenture retention at 23 mm inter-implant distance.

ABSTRACT Introduction Obesity is emerging as an epidemic worldwide. Obesity is associated with a number of comorbid conditions, such as diabetes mellitus, hypertension, cancer, dyslipidemia, cardiovascular abnormalities, anemia, obstructive sleep apnea, and psychosocial abnormalities. Aim This study aims at comparing the lipid profile levels of obese and nonobese men. Materials and methods This was a case—control study conducted at a tertiary care center. Totally, 80 men in the age group of 20 to 47 years attending the master health checkup were included in the study, out of which 40 men with normal body mass index (BMI) of 18 to 25 belonged to group I and 40 men with increased BMI of 30 and above belonged to group II. Lipid profile parameters, such as triglycerides (TGLs), total cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol were estimated in them. The data were statistically analyzed using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) software version 15.0. Results Statistically significant difference was found in the total cholesterol levels with a p-value of 0.040 while the difference in LDL cholesterol was statistically highly significant with a p-value of 0.040. Conclusion Among lipid profile parameters, only total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol showed significant difference between the obese and nonobese individuals. Background: UTIs are one of the most common infectious diseases encountered in out-patient departments on day to day basis. Nitrofurantoin and Ciprofloxacin are most commonly used antibiotics in the treatment of UTI. The present study was done to compare the efficacy and tolerability of nitrofurantoin and ciprofloxacin in patients of urinary tract infection.Methods: This prospective, open, randomized, parallel group, comparative study was conducted on 60 patients presenting with acute/uncomplicated or recurrent urinary tract infection in the outpatient Department of Urology, Rajindra Hospital attached to Govt. Medical College, Patiala, Punjab. They were divided into two groups, Group I and Group II of 30 cases each. Group I patients were put on Nitrofurantoin and Group II patients were put on Ciprofloxacin. Initially 100 patients were enrolled but only those who showed growth of uropathogens on baseline urine culture or those who completed the treatment were included in the study. The primary outcome measure was microbiological eradication on post treatment urine culture.Results: The age range of the patients in Group I and Group II was 19 to 68 years (43.40±14.58 years) and 20-60 years (39.77±13.49 years) respectively. The total no. of males and females who participated in this study were 32 (53.33%) and 28 (46.66%) respectively. The most common uropathogen associated with uncomplicated UTI was E. coli (80%), other organisms detected were Klebsiella species (16.67%), Staphylococcus aureus (3.33%) and Providencia (3.33%). Post treatment urine culture results showed significant difference between two groups, 5 patients (16.67 %) in case of Group I and 14 patients (46.67%) in case of Group II showed growth of micro-organisms post treatment. P-value comes out to be 0.017 which is significant.Conclusions: In this era of super bugs, nitrofurantoin is more efficacious than ciprofloxacin in the treatment of UTI. E. coli was found to be major organism causing UTI. Ciprofloxacin is less effective due to increasing antibiotic resistance among uropathogens. Both the drugs were well tolerated, no major significant adverse effects were encountered.

ABSTRACT Purpose To evaluate imbibition and syneresis in four commercially available irreversible hydrocolloid (alginate) impression materials at different time intervals (10, 20 and 30 minutes). Materials and methods Eighty samples of four commercially available irreversible hydrocolloid (alginate) impression materials Algitex (DPI, Mumbai), Plastalgin (Septodont, Cedex, France), Zelgan 2002 (Dentsply), Finndent (Pyrex Polykem) were made. Twenty samples each of four irreversible hydrocolloid (alginate) impression materials were grouped into four groups (I, II, III and IV). Measured quantity of alginate powder and liquid was used to make samples. The samples were evaluated for imbibition and syneresis at different time intervals (i.e.10, 20, and 30 minutes) by weighing on electronic analytic balance. The data were analyzed using the one-way ANOVA, post hoc test and t-test. Results The statistical data revealed that imbibition within four groups of irreversible hydrocolloid (alginate) impression materials were not significant. Regarding syneresis there was insignificant difference between the four groups but within the group itself they showed significant difference between them depending upon the time interval. It was observed that Group I showed significant difference in syneresis at time interval of 10 to 20 minutes. Group II showed significant difference in syneresis at time interval of 10 to 30 minutes. Conclusion This study demonstrated that four groups of irreversible hydrocolloid (alginate) impression materials showed different rates of imbibition and syneresis at time interval of 10, 20 and 30 minutes depending upon molecular weight, calcium concentration and environmental conditions. Background: Computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD-CAM) techniques have lately become a popular treatment option for complete dentures fabrication. The two principal CAD-CAM techniques milling and 3D printing used in complete dentures construction have been approved and documented in showing clinically good results. Surface characteristics of dentures fabricated by these new techniques have a great effect on microbiological adherence to denture fitting surfaces. Aim: As other clinical trials and/or in-vitro studies evaluating the microbiological effect and its correlation with the surface roughness of the two advanced manufacturing techniques and comparing it with the conventional technique are lacking. Thus, this study aimed to further assess the microbiological and surface properties of different widely used denture base materials. Methodology: Thirty-six completely edentulous patients were selected and divided randomly into three groups Group I patients received conventional complete denture, Group II patients received CAD/CAM milled complete dentures and Group III patients received 3D printed complete dentures. All denture`s surface roughness were evaluated, also all patients were recalled after 3, 9 & 12 months respectively to evaluate the microbiological adherence. Results: Microbiological count significantly increased (P < 0.05) after 12 months in all groups, after 12 months there was a significant difference (P < 0.05) between three groups as group II (Milled) was significantly the lowest, then the group I (conventional), while group III (3D printed) was significantly the highest. Regarding surface roughness of group II (milled) was significantly the lowest, while group III (3D printed) was significantly the highest. Finally, there was a strong positive significant correlation between microbiological adherence and surface roughness in all groups as (r > 0.5). Conclusion: Group II (Milled) appeared to be the best regarding microbiological adherence and surface roughness followed by the group I (conventional) and finally group III (3D printed). Furthermore, it was evident that surface roughness has a great effect on microbiological adherence regardless of the fabrication technique utilized.

A comparative study was made to see the effect of Prayer along with meditation and the effect of Meditation (verbal chanting of ‘OM’) on Emotional Intelligence and Psychological Well-being of 130 female university students in the age range of 18 to 24 years. The sample of the study consisted of 65 students in Group I (Prayer along with Meditation) and 65 students in Group II (Only Meditation). The daily practice time of intervention was 30 minutes in Group I (15 min. for Prayer and 15-20 min. for Meditation) and 15-20 minutes in Group II for 30 days. Pre- Post data was recorded before and after intervention in both groups. A significant difference was found between the pre and post scores of emotional intelligence (Z =6.34, p < .01 in Group I and Z= 4.50, p <.01 in Group II). A significant difference was also found between the pre and post scores of psychological well-being, (Z =4.43, p < .01 in Group I). In Group II, Z value for psychological wellbeing was found to be 1.94 that is not significant even at .05 level. So, there is a significant positive effect of prayer along with meditation on emotional intelligence and psychological well-being. It was also found that there is a significant positive effect of meditation on emotional intelligence but no significant effect was found on psychological wellbeing.

Background: 3D printed complete dentures fabrication with computer-aided designing and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) techniques is becoming popular nowadays. However, studies that analyzed the occlusal forces distribution using recent digital methods as T-scan III and further evaluated the dentures effect on patient`s life quality were lacking. Objectives: Evaluation of the occlusal forces distribution using T-scan III, and evaluation of the oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) using Oral Health Impact Profile for Edentulous Patients (OHIP-EDEN) questionnaire for 3D printed complete dentures and comparing it with conventional denture fabrication techniques. Methods: Twenty completely edentulous patients were selected and divided randomly into two equal groups according to manufacturing technique group I (patients who received conventional complete dentures), and group II (patients who received 3D printed complete dentures). For all patients, occlusal force analysis (percentage of applied occlusal force on both sides) was performed using the T-Scan III (digital occlusal analysis system). Also, OHRQoL was assessed using (OHIP-EDENT) questionnaire. Results: In the digital occlusal analysis, comparison between right and left sides regarding occlusal forces distribution revealed a significant difference in group I (conventional denture), while in group II (3D printed denture), it revealed an insignificant difference. Regarding, OHIP-EDENT patients in group I (conventional denture) revealed higher scores than group II (3D printed dentures). Also, the correlation between occlusal forces & (OHIP-EDENT) scores revealed a strong negative significant correlation. Conclusions: The 3D printed complete dentures fabricated using CAD/CAM technology proved to be more superior over conventional methods in terms of digital occlusal force analysis and Oral Health Impact Profile for Edentulous Patients (OHIP-EDENT). However, further studies are required on more patients to decide the exact superiority of one technique over the other after long-term follow-up periods.

Introduction: Urgent demand for high-esthetic material, which at the same time has the possibility of absorption of mastication stress, has led to the technological development of hybrid nanoceramics used in CAD / CAM technology. Aim: The aim of the study was to evaluate the effects of different surface modification of hybrid nanoceramic crowns on the quality of the cement retention and the influence of the mastication stress after one year of function. Material and methods: 50 hybrid nanoceramic CAD/CAM crowns (CERASMART, GC) are cemented on titanium implant abutments with self-adhesive resin cement (G-CEM, LinkAce). The samples were divided into five main groups according to surface treatment (n=10): I (sandblasted with 50 microns Al2O3), II (treated with CERAMIC PRIMER II, GC), III (treated with 5% hydrofluoric acid), IV (treated with combination of 5% hydrofluoric acid and CERAMIC PRIMER II), V (control, non-treated group). The samples were storaged during 24 hours at 37°C, thermocycled and loaded under 10 000 mechanical cycles loads (simulation of 12 months of function). Retention forces measured in Universal testing machine. The data were represented as mean ± standard deviation, and for statistical analysis ANOVA test was used. Results: The highest initial retention force was demonstrated in the group IV (6.99±1.18), followed by group I (6.22±1.29), group III (5,97±1,25), group II (5,86±1,17) and control group samples (4.92±1.19). A statistically significant decline in retention force was recorded in all tested groups, with the lowest decrease observed in samples treated with a combination of 5% hydrofluoric acid and CERAMIC PRIMER II (6.08 ± 1.03). Conclusion: Mechanical and chemical surface modification can strongly influence the retentions between resin cement and hybrid nanoceramics. The results from this study are suggesting that the most efficient clinical outcome is the combination of 5% hidrofluoric acid and CERAMIC PRIMER II.

Aim:  A discoloration existing under the restoration can affect the final restoration color, and various techniques can be used to address this situation. The aim of this study was to investigate the masking ability of the substructure, color of different hybrid CAD/CAM ceramics in various thicknesses. Methodology: A total of 120 samples were produced from 4 different CAD/CAM hybrid ceramic blocks (Cerec blocs, GC Cerasmart, Vita Enamic, 3M Lava Ultimate) in 1, 1.5 and 2 mm thickness. The samples were sliced with 100 N pressure in a low-speed precision cutting device under water cooling. The specimens were placed over the neutral grey background for initial spectrophotometric measurements. A3 color posterior nanohybrid composite (14 X 7 X 1 mm) was preferred to mimic discoloration in the substructure. The cementation procedure of composite and the CAD/CAM hybrid ceramic complex was standardized under 10 N continuous pressure and was performed using a dual cured resin cement. All samples were incubated at 37 °C for 24 hours in incubator after cementation. And the second spectrophotometeric measurement was done via the L*, a*, and b* color attributes of the complex specimens. Additionally, ΔE* values were calculated to determine the color differences between each group. Kruskal Wallis test was used for statistical analysis and Dunn’s test was used for group comparison. Significance was evaluated at least p <0.05. Results: It was found that thickness of the ceramics increases, the substructure color is better masked and the thickness made a statistically significant difference on the masking ability (p<0.01). For 1 mm thick samples, the highest ΔE* value was found in Cerec blocs with 9.36, while the lowest value was found in GC Cerasmart as 4.27. Conclusion: Within the limitations of this study, it was concluded that the tested CAD/CAM hybrid ceramics showed better masking ability than Cerec blocs.   How to cite this article: Ünalan Değirmenci B, Wahid WF. Background: Hysteroscopy a minimally invasive approach for evaluating uterine cavity, and has become an indispensable diagnostic and therapeutic procedure. The main limiting factor while performing office hysteroscopy is the level of pain or discomfort encountered during the procedure. The pain is attributed mainly to the difficulty in entering the internal cervical os with the hysteroscope and while distending uterine cavity. It could be reduced if cervix is ripened before the procedure. The purpose of this prospective observational study was to compare the effectiveness, adverse effects and surgery-related complications associated with two different doses of sublingual Misoprostol (100 and 200 µg) given 2-4 hours before hysteroscopy.Methods: A randomised comparative study was conducted in the department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of ABVIMS and Dr. RML hospital New Delhi, from 1st November, 2018 to 31st March, 2020. One hundred and twenty women, fulfilling inclusion criteria were subjected to hysteroscopy. Women received either 100 µg (Group I) or 200 µg (Group II) of sublingual Misoprostol 2-4 hours prior to hysteroscopy. The primary outcome of the study was cervical dilatation as measured by the largest number of Hegar dilator that could be inserted without resistance at the beginning of procedure. The largest dilator that negotiated cervical canal without resistance at the beginning of procedure was recorded as the baseline cervical width. The secondary outcomes were subjective assessment of the surgeon of the ease of dilatation of cervix and adverse effects of drug (i.e. vaginal bleeding, shivering, fever and pain as measured on visual analog scale).Results: The mean baseline cervical width as measured by first Hegar dilator that could be passed through the cervical canal without resistance was 6.6±0.62 mm in group I and 6.94±1.21 mm in group II respectively                    (p value=0.016). Adverse effects like vaginal bleeding, shivering was more in group II compared to group I. No statistically significant difference was found between group I and II with regards to visual analog scale.Conclusions: 100 µg Misoprostol can be used for cervical ripening prior to hysteroscopy with minimal adverse effects.
