Fieldwork on the American Campus

Author(s):
Joshua S. Duchan

Duchan examines the process of doing fieldwork “at home,” so to speak, by exploring the musical life on American college campuses--where ethnographers often live but seldom reflect upon. In recent years, the field of ethnographic analysis has expanded from a traditional non-Western geographic locus and cultural concept to include urban and suburban Western sites and the internet. Duchan addresses two pertinent questions: What are the distinctive challenges (social, cultural, bureaucratic, and so on) the ethnographer faces in such domestic ethnography? And how might a researcher’s data be affected by historically established social structures, such as those of academic class and rank, traditional campus mores, or the politics of representation and reciprocity that play out in this setting?

They improved significantly, and their outcome and satisfaction resembled those in patients with similar disorders who used Fear Fighter in clinics with brief face-to-face therapist support.

The survey examined the percentage of families that have access to computers and the Internet at home, computer components, use characteristics and specific areas of interest in science and technology. Results indicate that 96 percent of Nebraska 4-H families have access to computers at home. Nearly 92 percent of families had a connection to the Internet with a majority using dial-up connections. Families are interested in technology programs focused on basic computer knowledge and office application. In science, 4-H families indicated environment sciences and botany were areas of interest.

Research on cooperative social structures and particular types of conflict behavior online is readily available. However, the field lacks a framework to analyze how antagonistic structures are represented on online platforms. Social structures can be represented formally (manifestly) or informally (in open verbal or visual forms) or remain latent - a distinction that has received little scholarly attention in the analysis of computermediated communication. Based on an interpretative analysis of relational structures and types of acts, we distinguish structural elements that lead us to empirical typologies of antagonistic structures and an analysis of whether and how they are represented online. We develop theses about why some structures are formally represented more often than others and theorize the consequences of this selective representation.

Telehealth is effective in preventing, treating, and taking precautions to avoid spreading of coronavirus. Telehealth allows people with symptoms to stay at home by helping them to communicate with doctors through the internet. This decreases the spreading of corona virus to large number of people and hospital staff. But when it comes to treatment of patients, telemedicine does have some limitations. Medicines given through telemedicine may not be consistent to patients who have chronic disorders and makes the patients' conditions serious, which leads them to hospitalization. The most significant limitation of telemedicine is that some hospitals do not have equipment to deliver care in this manner. In the present situation of COVID-19, the existing telemedicine has to be modified for helping quick testing and to diagnose the infection to take care of the patients. Hence, some of the benefits and limitations of telemedicine have been summarized.
