This article aims to discuss the initial training of children educators under the current legislation in Portugal. Above all, it intends to focus on internship processes and how they unfold by questioning research action as a model and supervisory practices from a critical questioning perspective. The authors build on their experience and reflection as trainers and supervisors of initial training in a Higher Education Institution in Portugal and combine in their reflective exercise a review of the specialized bibliography, which includes results of studies they developed and whose main objective was to listen to the voices of students about internship processes, whether in day care or kindergartens that serve children until they enter school. From the literature review, their experiences and revisiting the voices of the students involved in two studies, they point out the main trends observed: the importance of communication channels between the training institution and the internship places; the importance and aspects to be taken into account during the internship / research action and the importance of a supervision that streamlines the critical thinking of trainees.

The article discusses the construction of the critical thinking concept in higher education and its change in scientific publications between 1993 and 2017. Based on a systematic literature review, the following research questions are raised: how does construction of critical thinking concept change in the context of higher education during time? How are personal, interpersonal, and social aspects expressed in the concept of critical thinking in the context of higher education? The systematic literature review revealed significant grow of publications starting from 1998. It is also disclosed slight change in treating critical thinking as purely general or domain-specific competence. The authors of the researched articles do not make clear division between critical thinking as a general and as a domain-specific competence. Researchers in different fields tend to associate critical thinking with the development of a person’s cognitive and intellectual capacities, including skills and attitudes. However, some authors reveal also interpersonal and social aspects of critical thinking. Alas, there are not so many publications in favour of such comprehensive approach. But there is still some hope that critical thinking will be treated and nurtured as personal, interpersonal and social competence.

In today’s education systems, new solutions are required for educators to raise and maintain the interest of young people (from primary school to higher education). The aim of the study is to present a self-developed gamification solution and its application in higher education in economics. The method, the process, and experiences presented in the study were tested within the framework of a management subject. The gamification model, based on an extensive literature review, was elaborated with the help of a self-developed method. Prior to the development of the process, students’ opinions on their experiences and expectations for current educational methods were surveyed. After the end of the semester, our students were asked on their feedback, and a national survey was conducted in higher education institutions about the experiences with gamification solutions. The positive consequences of the application of our own model, can be traced in the students’ continuous and year-end performance (a higher level of task solutions and better grades) and also in their feedback. Although the subject of the test semester was a management-type subject, the logic of the model can be applied within the framework of any other subject and in any higher education institution as well.
