Este artículo indaga en la trascendencia de la semiótica y la filosofía del lenguaje para la manipulación de la dimensión connotativa esencial en el discurso de la imaginación. Para ello, la parodia servirá como punto de reflexión sobre el que la idea de semiotización podría definirse como un enclave textual de la memoria cultural. Siendo la parodia un fenómeno al que se adhieren (y que se adhiere a) valores historiográficos sin que a su definición pueda imponerse a una mirada histórica parcial (nacional, ideológica), hay en ella una asociación semiótica vertebrada por la historia de la filosofía del lenguaje, acompasada por la encarnación mítica y post-mítica de las relaciones materia-forma, individuo-colectividad. De esta manera, la aporía todo acto de figuración se ejecuta en la parodia como una dialéctica que permite a los estudios literarios atender a la complejidad de la idea de Tradición en la especificidad de la forma estética. Abstract: This article explores the significance of semiotics and the philosophy of language for the manipulation of the connotative dimension in the discourse of the imagination. To this end, parody will serve as a point of reflection on which the idea of semiotization could be defined as a textual enclave of cultural memory. Since parody is a phenomenon to which historiographical values adhere (and which is adhered to) without its definition being subject to a partial (national, ideological) historical gaze, there can be observed in it a semiotic association vertebrate by the history of the philosophy of language, accompanied by the mythical and post-mythical incarnation of the relations matter-form, individual-collectivity. In this way, the aporia of every act of figuration is executed in parody as a dialectic that allows literary studies to attend to the complexity of the idea of Tradition in the specificity of aesthetic form.

This innovative introduction to literary studies takes 'the life of texts' as its overarching frame. It provides a conceptual and methodological toolbox for analysing novels, poems, and all sorts of other texts as they circulate in oral, print, and digital form. It shows how texts inspire each other, and how stories migrate across media. It explains why literature has been interpreted in different ways across time. Finally, it asks why some texts fascinate people so much that they are reproduced and passed on to others in the form of new editions, in adaptations to film and theatre, and, last but not least, in the ways we look at the world and act out our lives. The Life of Texts is designed around particular issues rather than the history of the discipline as such. Each chapter concentrates on a different aspect of 'the life of texts' and introduces the key debates and concepts relevant to its study. The issues discussed range from aesthetics and narrative to intertextuality and intermediality, from reading practices to hermeneutics and semiotics, popular culture to literary canonisation, postcolonial criticism to cultural memory. Key concepts and schools in the field have been highlighted in the text and then collected in a glossary for ease of reference. All chapters are richly illustrated with examples from different language areas.

AbstractIn the history of Russian philosophy of language, Bakhtin and Shpet are two very important figures. As scholars having reached the peak of academic humanities, they both scored great achievements in many fields. The contributions they made to semiotics have a direct impact on the semiotic view of the Moscow-Tartu School and other scholars who later represented the highest achievements of Russian semiotics. It was many years earlier than Bakhtin that Shpet put forward views similar to those of Bakhtin. But Bakhtin surpassed Shpet and extended semiotics to a broader humanistic space.

The article analyzes the results of the research on the representation of the aesthetic ideal through the image of the ideal hero in two national literatures. For research purposes, attention was paid to highlighting the category of the ideal hero as an expression of the author's aesthetic views. In Sinclair Lewis’s “Arrowsmith” and Pirimkul Kodirov's “The Three Roots”, the protagonists artistically reflect the authors' views on truth, virtue, and beauty. In these novels, professional ethics is described as a high noble value. The scientific novelty of the research work includes the following: in the evolution of western and eastern poetic thought, in the context of the novel genre, the skill, common and distinctive aspects of the creation of an ideal hero were revealed by synthesis of effective methods in world science with literary criteria in the history of eastern and western literary studies, in the example of Sinclair Lewis and Pirimkul Kodirov.

Abstract This article presents the project “Virtual Benedictine library Millstatt” (www.virtbibmillstatt.com/), which is dedicated to the cultural memory and educational history of Carinthia in the broadest sense. It aims to reconstruct the hitherto little-known and little-researched corpus of manuscripts from the Benedictine Abbey of Millstatt, to identify its texts, and to shed light on their history of use. Against the background of the eventful history of ownership of the Millstatt library, the problems that arise when trying to reliably assign manuscripts scattered around the world to the Millstatt corpus are outlined. Examples will be used to show the extent to which external features (binding, signature system, accessories), but also text-internal indications, make the origin and ownership history of the manuscripts traceable. Spectacular new finds are presented, but also erroneous assumptions about the affiliation of certain texts to the reading canon of the Millstatt Benedictines are pointed out.

This article proceeds from the fact that the problem of interaction and mutual influence is quite acute in literary studies. In this regard, the relevance of the research is due, firstly, to the correspondence to the priority direction of modern literary studies associated with the comparative analysis of the text, and secondly, to the need to disclose the deep theoretical and artistic content of creative communication of such artistic personalities of the XX century as M. Tsvetaeva and B. Pasternak, whose legacy still contains many lacunae. The methodological basis of the research is an integrated approach, including comparative-historical, historical-literary, comparative-typological, system-analytical and biographical methods, as well as the method of comparative studies, which allows to study literary analogies and connections of different national literatures, their refraction in the texts of the authors studied. Hermeneutics contributed to the mental comprehension of the analyzed texts, the mental processing of textual information. An important episode in the history of world poetry was the correspondence-dialogue of iconic poets for their time: M. Tsvetaeva and B. Pasternak. Correspondence is valuable not only because it shows us the life of poets in relation to time. The creative aspect of correspondence is very important. The rapprochement manifested in it and at the same time the repulsion was deeply creative and left deep traces in the legacy of all its participants. Poets, albeit to varying degrees, concentrated and passionately, sought to define for themselves the essence of life and poetry. In the course of the research, the author of the article comes to the conclusion that, firstly, the literary process is characterized by a systematic nature in which authors and their works are in certain relationships to each other. Secondly, the thirteen-year correspondence of M. Tsvetaeva with B. Pasternak was very significant for literature. Thanks to mutual communication, creative interaction, the poets created unique, emotionally deep works.

How do words stand for things? Taking ideas from philosophical semantics and pragmatics, this book offers a unique, detailed, and critical survey of central debates concerning linguistic reference in the twentieth century. It then uses the survey to identify and argue for a novel version of current 'two-dimensional' theories of meaning, which generalise the context-dependency of indexical expressions. The survey highlights the history of tensions between semantic and epistemic constraints on plausible theories of word meaning, from analytic philosophy and modern truth-conditional semantics, to the Referentialist and Externalist revolutions in theories of meaning, to the more recent reconciliatory ambition of two-dimensionalists. This chapter explores Jonathan Swift's Gulliver's Travels as a source for graphic satire, specifically considering James Gillray's King of Brobdingnag, and Gulliver (1803). In a parodic reimagining of Part 2, Chapter 7 of Gulliver's Travels, George III, dressed in military uniform, scrutinizes with his spyglass the diminutive, swaggering Napoleon standing on the palm of his outstretched right hand. It is one of the most reproduced and instantly recognizable political caricatures in British history, and it has come increasingly to be entwined in the cultural memory with the very text it adapts. Of course, the efficacy of this 1803 caricature lies in its striking simplicity—the juxtaposition of two profile figures, one small one large, against a plain background—but the question of how it orients itself in relation both to Gulliver's Travels and to the longer history of that text's adaptation and political appropriation is more complex.
