Self-disclosure involves sharing thoughts, feelings, and experiences with others, typically surrounding emotionally relevant and often times difficult life experiences. Research suggests a link between acts of self-disclosure and improved psychological resilience. Most research argues that resilience arises because acts of disclosure alter one’s thinking around a topic of disclosure, which is then associated with improved resilience. Research also suggests, however, that disclosure can alter personal characteristics such as one’s level of self-compassion or self-esteem. Nevertheless, we know relatively little about the potential mediating role that personal characteristics might play in predicting resilience. This exploratory cross-sectional study assesses whether self-characteristics (specifically self-esteem and self-compassion) mediate the relationship between self-disclosure and psychological resilience. Four hundred and forty-three individuals completed a survey that assessed the aforementioned variables. Findings suggest that self-esteem and self-compassion mediate the relationship between self-disclosure and psychological resilience. Demographically, age and those who identified as male reported significantly higher levels of resilience than individuals of other demographics. These findings pinpoint personal characteristics that could be targeted to supplement and improve the efficacy of self-disclosure interventions.

Mindful parenting, a concept that has been coined and examined recently, refers to a parent’s ability to bring complete attention to their children in the present moment. The aims of this study are to examine the relationship between self-compassion and mindful parenting and the role of gratitude as a mediating variable in a cross-sectional study. Participants include 522 Vietnamese mothers ( M age = 35.17; SD = 5.56) randomly selected through an online investigation. A 26-item Self-Compassion Scale was used to measure self-compassion, gratitude was measured by the Gratitude Questionnaire Six-Item Form, and mindful parenting was measured by the Interpersonal Mindfulness in Parenting Scale. The results support two main findings: (a) self-compassion has a direct influence on mindful parenting (effect = 2.48, p < .001, 95% CI [1.75, 3.22]), and (b) the mediating role of gratitude in this model was significant (effect = 0.37, 95% CI [0.10, 0.70]). The study’s results also show that increasing self-compassion and gratitude can help to improve mindful parenting.

Bullying merupakan perilaku negatif yang dilakukan secara berulang-ulang oleh seseorang atau sekelompok orang yang bersifat menyerang karena adanya ketidakseimbangan kekuatan antara pihak yang terlibat.Tindakan bullying dapat berdampak buruk bagi korban maupun pelakunya di masa depannya. Dampak tersebut meliputi kesepian, pencapaian akademik yang buruk, kesulitan penyesuaian (adaptasi), meningkatnya risiko penggunaan zat, keterlibatan dalam tindakan kriminal dan kerentanan gangguan mental emosional seperti cemas, insomnia, penyalahgunaan zat, depresi, mempunyai self-esteem rendah, kesulitan interpersonal, gangguan konsep diri, dan depresi (ketidakberdayaan). Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui hubungan antara konsep diri dan ketidakberdayaan dengan risiko bunuh diri pada remaja yang mengalami bullying di SMA Negeri 7 Kota Bogor. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kuantitatif dengan menggunakan metode cross-sectional study dengan bentuk pendekatan rancangan correlation study. Sampel dalam penelitian ini berjumlah 183 orang didapat dari teknik randomsampling. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa berdasarkan hasil uji hubungan dengan menggunakan Chi-Square antara konsep diri dengan ketidakberdayaan didapatkan nilai ρ (0,000) lebih kecil daripada nilai α (0,05), sedangkan uji hubungan antara konsep diri dengan risiko bunuh diri didapatkan nilai ρ (0,013) lebih kecil daripada nilai α (0,05). Dengan demikian bahwa ada hubungan antara konsep diri dan ketidakberdayaan dengan risiko bunuh diri pada remaja yang mengalami bullying di SMA Negeri 7 Kota Bogor. Kata kunci: bullying, konsep diri, ketidakberdayaan, risisko bunuh diri SELF-CONCEPT AND INEQUALITY CONNECTED WITH RISK OF SELF-SUFFICIENT IN ADOLESCENTS WHO HAVE BULLYING ABSTRACTBullying is a negative behavior that is carried out repeatedly by a person or group of people who are attacking because of an imbalance of power between the parties involved. Bullying actions can have a negative impact on victims and perpetrators in the future. These impacts include loneliness, poor academic achievement, adaptation difficulties, increased risk of substance use, involvement in criminal acts and susceptibility to mental emotional disorders such as anxiety, insomnia, substance abuse, depression, low self-esteem, interpersonal difficulties, disturbances self concept, and depression (helplessness). The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between self-concept and powerlessness with the risk of suicide in adolescents who experienced bullying in SMA Negeri 7 Kota Bogor. This research is a quantitative study using a cross-sectional study method with a correlation study design approach. The sample in this study amounted to 183 people obtained from random sampling techniques. The results showed that based on the results of the relationship test using Chi-Square between self-concept and powerlessness, the value of ρ (0,000) was smaller than the value of α (0.05), while the test of the relationship between self-concept and risk of suicide obtained a value of ρ (0.013 ) is smaller than the value of α (0.05). Thus that there is a relationship between self-concept and powerlessness with the risk of suicide in adolescents who experience bullying in SMA Negeri 7 Kota Bogor. Keywords: bullying, self-concept, helplessness, suicide risk

Numerous studies have investigated the impact of self-esteem and intelligence on academic achievement. The findings are generally inconsistent. The aim of this study was to understand the relationship between intelligence, self-esteem and academic achievement among young people in Kosovo. It was a quantitative cross-sectional study. The sample consisted of 1856 participants, aged 10-18 years old (Mage = 15.29, SD = 1.76). Participants completed the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale and The Raven Standard Progressive Matrices. Grade Point Average (GPA) was used to measure academic achievement. Data processing was done with SPSS 21.0 and Microsoft Excel 2013. Participants according to self-reported academic achievement were classified as follows: fail (0.1%), sufficient (2%), good (15.6%), very good (26.7%) and excellent (55.7%). As regards self-esteem participants were classified as follows: low self-esteem (26.9%), and normal self-esteem (73.1%). A significant positive correlation was found between academic achievement and intelligence (r = .31; p = .00) but not between achievement and self-esteem. This significant correlation resulted for both genders separately. The Mann-Whitney test found significant differences in academic achievement between genders and between groups with high intelligence and those with normal intelligence. Intelligence, but not self-esteem revealed a significant relationship with academic achievement. Future studies on the topic might focus on explanatory factors or the possibility of interaction of other variables related to academic achievement.

Background Empirical research has linked psychological distress with fatigue. However, few studies have analyzed the factors (eg, stimuli from bedtime media use) that affect the relationship between psychological distress and fatigue. Objective The aim of this study was to examine whether visual stimuli from bedtime media use mediate the relationship between psychological distress and fatigue among college students. Methods The sample included 394 participants (92 males, 302 females) with a mean age of 19.98 years (SD 1.43 years), all of whom were Chinese college students at an occupational university in Sichuan Province, China. Data were collected using a paper-based questionnaire that addressed psychological distress, stimuli from bedtime media use, and fatigue. Mediation analysis was conducted using the PROCESS macro version 2.16.2 for SPSS 22, which provided the 95% CIs. Results Both psychological distress (r=.43, P<.001) and visual stimuli from bedtime media use (r=.16, P<.001) were positively related to fatigue. The association between auditory stimuli from bedtime media use and fatigue was not significant (r=.09, P=.08). The relationship between psychological distress and fatigue was partially mediated by visual stimuli from bedtime media use (beta=.01, SE 0.01, 95% CI 0.0023-0.0253). Conclusions The findings imply that psychological distress has an indirect effect on fatigue via visual stimuli from bedtime media use. In contrast, auditory stimuli from bedtime media use did not have the same effect. We suggest that college students should reduce bedtime media use, and this could be achieved as part of an overall strategy to improve health. Mobile health apps could be an option to improving young students’ health in daily life.

Objectives: The objectives of this study are to assess the relationship between media exposure and post-traumatic stress symptoms (PTSS) and to highlight the underlying mechanisms mediated by risk perception.Methods: This survey was conducted online in China from February 1st to February 10th, 2020. A total of 2,858 Chinese citizens aged ≥18 years from 31 provinces and autonomous regions were recruited to participate in a cross-sectional study. Self-report questionnaires were used to assess media exposure, PTSS, and risk perception.Results: The prevalence of respondents with heightened PTSS scores was 22.2%. After controlling for covariates, media exposure (more than five times a day) was significantly and positively associated with a high level of PTSS (B = 4.11, p &lt; 0.001), and risk perception (worry and severity) significantly mediated the relationship between media exposure and PTSS (all 95% CIs did not include 0).Conclusions: Based on these findings, the frequency of media exposure was associated with PTSS. Risk perception (worry and severity) mediated the relationship between media exposure and PTSS. The mental health, particularly PTSS, of the general population should be closely monitored and “infodemics” should be combatted while addressing the COVID-19 outbreak; cognitive interventions may be promising.

Long-term home isolation has had a certain impact on adolescents' enthusiasm for interpersonal communication and desire for self-disclosure during COVID-19. The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between adolescents' self-disclosure and loneliness during COVID-19, and to analyze the mediating role of peer relationship in it. We conducted a cross-sectional study involving 830 Chinese adolescents (males: 47.5%, Mage14.25 years; females: 52.05%, Mage 14.19 years; Age range 12-15). Participants completed a self-reported survey that included sociodemographic, Jourard Self-Disclosure Scale, UCLA, and Peer Relationship Scale. The results showed that in the period of COVID-19, adolescents' self-disclosure affects loneliness through peer relationship, that is, the level of self-disclosure can significantly predict loneliness through peer relationship, and peer relationship plays a complete mediating role.

The emerging phenomenon of FoMO has received the attention of a number of researchers. Studies have sought to establish the relationship between this phenomenon and the rise of social networks, and they have examined FoMO’s effects on the users of these networks. This paper continues this research in the form of a cross-sectional study aimed at establishing the relationships between fear of missing out, the use of the social network Instagram, narcissism and self-esteem. The sample consisted of 364 individuals, out of whom 301 participants were selected. Their ages ranged from 18 to 30 years old. For the purposes of this study, an ad hoc questionnaire was used for the variables related to Instagram use.   Data were also gathered via the  FoMO-E scale, the HSNS (to measure narcissism) and the Rosenberg self-esteem scale. The results show a positive correlation between the variables measuring Instagram use and FoMO, as well as between FoMO and narcissism. Meanwhile, there is a negative correlation between FoMO and self-esteem. Thus, the study’s initial hypotheses are confirmed. The study also has yielded new information on the studied constructs and their links to the use of social networks, specifically Instagram.


Background and Aim: Introduction: Infertility is a medical and social condition that impacts people’s lives at the marital, family, social and financial levels. Several studies point to comorbidity between psychopathology and infertility, and people facing the demands of infertility may use maladaptive mechanisms of emotion regulation translated into psychological inflexibility. Objectives: This current study aimed to explore the mediating role of infertility-related psychological inflexibility in the relationship between infertility-related stress and depressive symptoms in women presenting an infertility diagnosis and pursuing infertility medical treatment. In addition, as a secondary aim, the associations between the time since diagnosis and the study variables were examined. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on a sample of 96 women recruited with the support of the Portuguese Fertility Association. Participants filled in online a set of self-report instruments. Sociodemographic and clinical data were collected, and standardized measures of infertility-related stress, depressive symptoms, and infertility-related psychological inflexibility were used. Results: The results demonstrated that the effect of infertility-related stress on depressive symptoms was .46, being totally mediated by infertility-related psychological inflexibility. Discussion: Difficulty in achieving a pregnancy is a painful life event that interferes with the goals and plans for building a family, which can lead to stress and depressive symptoms. The relationship between these symptoms seems to be influenced by the mechanism of infertility-related psychological inflexibility. Therefore, interventions such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and the Mindfulness-Based Program for Infertility may be particularly suitable for this population by integrating psychological inflexibility as a therapeutic target.
