The aim of the Doctoral Thesis is to develop an integrative methodology for the assessment towards sustainable bioeconomy through bioresource transition assessments using top-down and bottom-up approaches, transdisciplinarity analysis, and underused biomass potential use. The main contribution of the Thesis ascends from an integrated multi-level approach, that takes into account technical, socio-economic, environmental and market aspects. In order to reach the aims of the Thesis, the fallowing tasks were set: 1) to assess bioeconomy understanding and create consolidated view on bioeconomy; 2) to assess disciplinarity approaches towards sustainable bioeconomy; 3) to identify bioeconomy affecting factors, their interlinkages and propose possible nexus assessments; 4) to identify factor characteristic indicators; 5) to create factor nexus benchmark; 6) to create methodology for bioeconomy efficiency measures; 7) to identify potential bioresources that are underused and asses their potential value towards effective resource transition proposing new or existing bioresource value chains and their priorities; 8) to provide innovation transfer with market and economic analysis framework to determine if innovative bio-based product or technology would have the potential of entering market successfully; 9) to validate bio-resource potential with experimental analysis. The research presents several novel approaches not previously used in bioeconomy. In this thesis three main levels of bioresource transition assessment have been presented with methodology and case studies to approbate those methodologies. The outcome obtained in this Thesis extends the existing knowledge in bioeconomy for multi-level approach with transdisciplinary analysis. The results are beneficial for national and local and sectoral level governmental authorities, stakeholders and scientists.

The article is devoted to the method of complex assessment of the resource potential of medical organizations that provide primary health care to the population. A system of indicators for evaluating the effectiveness of resource potential use in three areas: Efficiency, Productivity, and Effectiveness, formed using elements of the efficiency audit methodology. A comprehensive assessment of their resource potential is calculated, based on the data of medical organizations of the Moscow state health system selected for the study.

ABSTRACT Foodborne outbreaks of listeriosis caused by Listeria monocytogenes have contributed to public consciousness about bacterial pathogens involved with foodborne disease. Major concerns with L. monocytogenes are its high mortality rate, wide distribution on raw products, growth at low temperatures, and its ability to establish itself in various food-processing environments. These concerns have prompted the examination of novel approaches, including the use of antimicrobial peptides, or bacteriocins, to combat its survival in foods. Bacteriocins from lactic acid bacteria have received much attention because these microorganisms have a long history of safe use in foods either as starter cultures or as indigenous contaminants. Some bacteriocins are inhibitory to foodborne pathogens, including Listeria spp., a substantial reason for investigating their potential use in novel food preservation applications. Nisin is currently accepted worldwide and in the U.S.; however, numerous other bacteriocins also have potential use in similar applications. Recent examples suggest that bacteriocins may contribute an additional barrier in the “hurdle” concept of food safety.

Abstract Measures to increase the share of renewables in heat generation, combined with increased energy efficiency provide a direct emissions reduction on the heating sector. Energy efficiency measures, as well as the role-out of sustainable heating technologies such as district heating networks have one key actor: insulation. However, state of the art insulating materials such as polyurethane or polystyrene have severe environmental drawbacks incompatible with today’s transition to the circular economy, and are the Achilles’ heel of the sector in terms of sustainability. Biobased and biodegradable polylactic acid (PLA) foam could be a promising replacement for fossil-based polymeric insulating foams. This study provides data on the mechanical behaviour of expanded PLA foam under different temperatures, which will help to assess its potential use as insulation where the foam is subject to heat.

Topicality. Current high socioeconomic (public) request for recreational and tourist services and the inadequate use of available natural resources in Ukraine as recreational make it necessary to find directions for diversification of their rational use for expanding recreational and tourist activities and related species.Aim and tasks. Purpose of the article is to determine the conceptual approaches to the diversification processes development in the use of natural resources around the territory of Kuyalnitsky estuary, that are aimed at revealing its potential and expansion of business activities of enterprises and districts in general.Research results. According to the analysis of financial and economic indicators of administrative units (Bilyaivskyi, Ivanivsky and Limansky districts), adjacent to the Kuyalnitsky estuary, and the aim, the authors conclude that the traditional use of natural resources in agriculture and industry does not provide the proper level of socio-economic development of the districts and they are not financially self-sufficient. Consequently, the economic activity in the Kuyalnitsky estuary basin is focused on agriculture and industrial production, but this territory diversification of the natural resource potential use in the direction of recreational and tourist activity as an alternative to existing types of production is required. The processes of diversification will consist in the production of environmentally friendly products and services to meet the needs of recreational activities, as recreational activity will contribute to increasing demand for them. To start diversification of economic activities types, which will provide synergistic effect and increase economic indicators of the development of areas around the Kuyalnitsky estuary is proposed. Among the areas of natural resources diversification of the estuary, it is proposed to consider the development of a network of sanatorium and resort establishments, enterprises of cosmetic products creation, as well as beauty salons with the use of the resource potential of the Kuyalnitsky estuary (brine, mud, salt, blue clay, phyto-preparations).Conclusions. The districts located around the Kuyalnitsky estuary have rich recreational natural resources, but do not use them fully in economic activity. In fact, there is only one sanatorium that uses mud and peloids of the estuary. The budgets of these districts do not cover their expenditures and receive subsidies from the regional budget, and the lack of proper implementation of the environmental legislation has led to the almost critical environmental situation of the Kuyalnitsky estuary. In order to improve the current situation, the authors propose to direct economic activities diversification processes of economic entities for the tourism development, in particular, rural, green, ecological, cognitive with the provision of medical services on the basis of unique mud of the estuary, taking into account ecosystem and polyfunctional approaches that will ensure the use , preservation and protection of a unique natural object.

AbstractThe increasing impact of the international trade governance regime on the domestic regulatory sphere and the growing inter-linkages between international companies through their involvement in global value chains, have complicated corporate political activity (CPA) in the trade arena and changed the way companies interact with governments in this context. This paper draws on several recent examples of novel forms of CPA in trade conflicts at both multilateral and regional (E.U.) level, to provide an updated conceptual framework of trade policy CPA, which takes account of the increasing complexity and interconnectedness in the world economy. We highlight, in particular, the fact that this changing context means that “domestic” interests are often heterogeneous. The international linkages of a firm may dictate trade policy preferences more than its nationality. In addition, non-government actors increasingly react to globalization by mobilizing transnationally, with positive and negative impacts for CPA. CPA strategy has adapted to that reality, in both home and host country contexts, leading to novel cross border alliances and even political activity in countries where, although their local presence is relatively low, companies find common interests.
