The practice of publishing photos and videos containing children’s private information on social media—also known as sharenting—is popular among parents in Jakarta. Embarking from the debate about privacy paradox in which it is believed that privacy concern does not predict someone’s behaviors in managing his/her private information online, this research aims to reveal the considerations underlying parental decisions when sharing their children’s private information through social media and their perceived risk toward their children’s online safety. Using a qualitative approach, the researcher conducted interviews with 20 parents in Jakarta with at least one child younger the 13 years. The result suggests that the perceived benefit of sharenting exceeds its perceived risks. The study also found four reasons why parents exercise sharenting: to document their children’s development, to gain social support from their followers on social media, and to overcome loneliness as new parents and the low self-efficacy of parents in protecting children’s privacy on the internet. Unsurprisingly sharenting through social media has become a growing trend among parents. This finding thus will be useful as a groundwork to develop an intervention program regarding relevant sharenting in the context of Jakarta, Indonesia.

Pesantren, the Islamic boarding school, is the oldest Islamic education in Indonesia and is constantly undergoing changes from time to time. This research uses the qualitative approach. This study aims to describe the application of the heutagogy method in the growth of pesantren education. The results of this study indicate that the Al-Luqmaniyyah salaf Boarding School has already applied the heutagogy learning method, it means that pesantren education precedes the Westerners in terms of its utilization. Through the study and discussion of Kitab Kuning (yellow-colored textbooks about Islamic knowledge), students determine their systems, study materials, and problems to find a solution. Sources of learning for students are not only limited by the Kitab Kuning, but students can also have access through the internet, online books and applications with trusted sources. PSDS is responsible for managing the talents and interests of the santri (a term used in Pesantren to call an apprentice), as well as training santri skills by making films, recording, creativity, writing, making advertisements, making interesting contents on social media. LP2M Al-Luqmaniyyah with its various divisions is required to channel and facilitate what the community needs from the students as they can also learn from the community it self. Keywords: Heutagogy, Islamic boarding school education.

The ascendancy of social media poses acute challenges for privacy. While Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn, and other similar services can confer major advantages on users in terms of access to information, ease of communication, and opportunities for network-building, the ordinary concomitant is a significant surrender of personal privacy. This is because participation generally entails the disclosure of, and the ceding of control over, one’s personal data. In order to join the community and enjoy the benefits of membership, a person must establish at a minimum an online contact point and identity (eg in the form of a Facebook account or Twitter profile), typically by transferring some version of his or her actual, real-world, identity to the internet. Many, of course, go much further than this, sharing online—arguably ‘oversharing’—any manner of private information concerning themselves, often with complete strangers. In most cases to do so will prove harmless, but from time to time individuals may make themselves a target.

Open adoption relationships are rife with privacy dilemmas and fuzzy boundaries, which require ongoing coordination of private disclosures as a result. The present study employed communication privacy management (CPM) theory to examine adoptive parents’ ( N = 354) private disclosures with the birth family across in-person and mediated (i.e., texting and social media) contexts. SEM analysis revealed that adoptive families who were more private and were concerned about the birth family sharing private information with others viewed disclosures to the birth family as risky. These privacy concerns related to adoptive parents being more clear with the birth family about preferences for sharing that private information with others. More social media contact between birth and adoptive parents predicted increased perceptions of risk of disclosure to birth parents. Results advance CPM theorizing by underscoring the motivational bases of perceived risk, the importance of anticipated boundary turbulence, and the nuanced privacy management processes within communication modes.

Becoming widespread of Internet increases share of electronic commerce (E-commerce) in the economy each passing day. Therefore, analysis of the behaviors of consumers who are shopping on the Internet has become more important for companies. Consumers have more or less risk perception because of possible problems they may face in the post-shopping. Usually, consumers make an effort to reduce this risk. These efforts to reduce risk play a key role between perceived risk and perceived benefit. On the other hand, perceived risk and risk reduction methods vary on the Internet in comparison to traditional commerce. From this point of view, in this study, for online shopping, the relationships between perceived risk and risk reduction variables were investigated on the basis of the different products.

Abstract The Twitter discussion with the hashtag #jesuisCharlie was a large-scale social media event commenting on the tragic terrorist attack that took place in Paris in 2015. In this paper, we analyze French tweets compiled with language technology methods from a large dataset. Our qualitative approach determines what types of affectivity are expressed. According to our results, first, core emotions are shared, and they are based on the identification with the internet meme je suis Charlie (I am Charlie). In them, participants show their commitment to democratic values and freedom of speech, as well as grief. They build up a we-agency and togetherness between the networked participants. Second, participants disalign from those who do not share the same values or who are a threat to them. Here, the emotions range from irritation and doubt to anger and disgrace, manifesting awayness. They contain protest against how democratic values are violated.
