The article Problems and challenges for the First Generation Learners seeks to explore the important issues and problems encountered by first generation English learners and teachers in the context of learning and teaching in Saudi Arabia. It is assumed that the quality of teaching, teachers, and teaching materials provided to the first generation learners as in the context of my experience of teaching, Wadi Ad-Dawasir, Sattam Bin Abdul-Aziz University, has to have certain standards and measuring rods to assess the impact of teaching.

It is the desire for the Federal Ministry of Education to improve the quality of teaching and learning in the Unity Schools. Supervision (internal and external) is an important component for quality education. This paper discussed the strategies for enhancing effective supervision, such as good leaders occupying principal position, effective communication and improved curriculum. It also stated the problem associated with effective supervision in achieving quality, which includes inadequate provision of infrastructure (buildings, learning and teaching materials), irregular training and re-training for staff and students, supervisors finding fault in the supervisee, partial or non-implementation of proffered solutions by the government. The paper equally highlighted the usefulness of supervision and made suggestions on how supervision could be improved to enhance quality education in a changing environment.

A lecturer with a good performance has a positive impact on the quality of teaching and learning. The said quality  includes the delivery of teaching materials, learning methods, and ultimately the academic results of students. Performance of lecturers contributes significantly to the quality of research and community service which in turn improves the quality of teaching materials. It is desirable, therefore, to have a method to measure the performance of lecturers in carrying out the Tri Dharma (or the three responsibility) activities, which consist of teaching and learning process, research, and community service activities, including publications at both national and international level. This study seeks to measure the performance of lecturers and cluster them into three categories, namely "satisfactory", "good", and "poor". Data were taken from academic works of nursing study program lecturers in conducting academic activities. Clustering process is carried out using two machine learning approaches, which is K-Means and K-Medoids algorithms. Evaluation of the clustering results suggests that K-Medoids algorithm performs better compared to using K-Means. DBI score for clustering techniques using K-Means is -0.417 while the score for K-Medoids is -0.652. The significant difference in the score shows that K-Medoids algorithm works better in determining the performance of lecturers in carrying out Tri Dharma activities.

This chapter highlights how the use of video feedback can support preservice teachers' understanding of how to improve the ways in which they scaffold and monitor students' literacy learning, gather formative assessment data in relation to set goals and make connections between educational theory and practice. It examines the contemporary shift towards democratic pedagogies in the context of learning in social constructivist environments and the need for preservice teachers to be aware of the impact of the teacher/student dialogues they create on the quality of pedagogy and students' learning. Preservice teachers' analysis of their pedagogical dialogue not only raises their awareness of the quality of dialogic turn-taking and questioning strategies but makes their associated ‘cognitive moves' explicit for their critical reflection, along with their use of the underpinning metalanguage. The chapter acknowledges the importance of preservice teachers' compilation of rich pedagogical data during practicums and shows how this contributes to deepening their learning. Similarly, it argues that emergent data are central to creating a dialogic community of inquiry where all practicum stakeholders are drawn into a process of learning and knowledge building.

This paper reviews some of the salient research into the complex issue of the impact of class size on the quality of teaching and learning. It describes the general attitude of the teaching profession towards class size and discusses some of the claims made regarding the influence of the variable on teaching and learning. Some evidence is presented to illustrate the nature of the profession's stand on the issue. It is acknowledged that the real impact of class size is much less clear than is implied by the normal assertions regarding its importance, and some of the important literature is examined to illustrate this point. From the discussion several suggestions emerge for desirable procedures in the further investigation of this area.

ABSTRACT Objective: To assess the relationship between malocclusion severity and quality of life in children. Materials and Method: Two hundred and seventy-eight children aged 11 to 14 years were recruited voluntarily from the Dental and Maxillofacial Centre of the Almana General Hospital in Alkhobar, Saudi Arabia. The children were asked to fill out the Arabic version of the Child Perception Questionnaire for 11- to 14-year-old children (CPQ11–14) and were then clinically examined to determine the severity of their malocclusion using the Dental Aesthetic Index (DAI). Multivariate analysis of variance was used to compare the four domains and the total CPQ11–14 scores between the four DAI severity groups. Results: Significant differences were found between DAI severity groups for the four domains and the total CPQ11–14 scores. Although children with very severe (handicapping) malocclusion had significantly higher domain and total CPQ11–14 scores than all the other groups (differences of up to 6 and 22 units, respectively, compared to children with no/minor malocclusion), there were no differences between those with no/minor, definite, and severe malocclusion. Conclusion: These findings suggest that only very severe malocclusion had an impact on the quality of life of the participants. Orthodontists should focus not only on clinical measures of malocclusion but should also consider the impact of severe malocclusion on patients' quality of life.

This paper provides a broad critical review of the research that examined the emotional factors such as learners’ attitudes, motivation, language anxiety, autonomy, and self-esteem in the context of learning English as a foreign language (EFL) in Saudi Arabia over a period of 20 years (2000-2020). The aim of this critical review is to answer some questions relating to identifying the most common themes of research efforts in this area, the strengths, and weaknesses among it; and to explain how such efforts have contributed to the development of English language learning/teaching within the Saudi context. The study is significant in that the findings identified some issues with thematic orientation in Saudi EFL emotion research—particularly regarding under- and over-explored topics due to an element of randomness in how research topics related to EFL emotions are often selected and explored, with some topic areas receiving excessive attention and others receiving little or no attention. Some issues related to research design and methodology were also acknowledged and assessed. The study suggests that it is useful to develop ways to coordinate and streamline future research on EFL emotions in Saudi Arabia and to work towards developing new research protocols that investigate the practicalities of language learning emotions in real learning situations.

Kata Kunci: Analisis Real, Self Regulated Learning   Abstract Development of teaching materials tailored to the characteristics and needs of students. According to Branch (2009), the development of a product centered on students, one of the most well-known strategies to help students understand and remember material read by students is the PQ4R Strategy (Preview, Question, Read, Reflect, Recite and Review). This strategy helps students to organize their information meaningfully, ask questions, reflect, and review it. The steps in the PQ4R strategy can help students organize the text, and organize themselves to obtain more in-depth information by means of broader elaboration. So that students will be more independent in learning. Independence in learning is termed Self Regulated Learning. Model Development of real analysis teaching materials to facilitate student self-regulated learning, namely the ADDIE model. ADDIE stages are (1) Analysis, (2) Design, (3) Development, (4) Implementation and (5) Evaluation. The quality of teaching materials is determined by valid, practical, and effective indicators. The validity of teaching materials is seen in the material aspects and design of teaching materials, and the practice seen in the trial is limited to 10 students and 1 lecturer. All instruments used in this study were validated to 2 validators who were lecturers in mathematics education FKIP Jambi University. The results obtained, the instrument has been declared eligible for use. While the results of developing real analysis teaching materials are declared valid and practical.
