A study of the mechanical properties of the finished metal products was carried out. All types of metal products are subjected to continuous quality control, both on the production output at the manufacturer of billets, and on the production entrance at the consumer of metal. Control subject are: strength characteristics (tensile strength σв and yield stress σ02 and the characteristics of plasticity (relative elongation δ and relative necking ψ). The pipe steels have another important controlled characteristic: the impact toughness КСU-60. All the test methods are the destroying ones and are characterized by high complexity. The task of reducing the types of tests, the introduction of a comprehensive indicator of product quality is an urgent technical task. The purpose of this work is to study the regularities of changes in the indicators that determine the quality of the sheet metal from the pipe steel.

One of the main processes in metal products is heat treatment. However, existing regimes of heat treatment are not suitable for the new gradient metals. This article presents a method of obtaining gradient metallic materials and heat treatment development. Also presents the studies results of heat treatment effect on mechanical properties and metal structure.

For metal products manufactured by hardware shops (metal cord, PML wire and side bronzed wire), the most important mechanical properties are those, that determine the strength, ductility and other characteristics of the materials. The article describes the characteristics of breaking test unit that affect the results of tests of plastic properties of RML wire. The analysis of the test conditions and factors affecting the test results was made.

Hardware production is in continuous improvement: the requirements imposed by consumers stimulate the introduction of new technological solutions and equipment. For metal products produced by hardware shops (metal cord, wire for RVD, side bronzed wire), mechanical properties are important, which determine the strength, ductility and other characteristics of materials. Metal cord has a number of physical and chemical characteristics: the diameter of the metal cord, lay pitch, linear density, deviation from straightness, residual torsion, untwistability, characteristics of the brass coating-chemical composition – coating weight, brass thickness, adhesion, mechanical properties-breaking load, elongation at break. The article describes the procedure for measuring the size of the lay pitch on a torsiometer installed by Metro Com engineering S. p. A., Italy using an upgraded device with ten pulses (resolution of the turn counter = 0.1 rotation of the rotating clamp). Comparative tests of 2x0. 30NT metal cord samples taken from a single coil were performed using a device with a resolution of 0.25 turns and 0.1 turns of the rotating clamp of the installation to determine the pitch of the coil.

Representation of cognitive area and revealing terminological characteristics of the Russian and English names of building materials (NBMs) determine the topicality of the research and the article’s problematic. The authors of the article analyze the Russian and English NBMs and reveal their main stages with the comparative description, and chооse the definition of the names, in which the basic word-identifier of the leading cognitive features have been highlighted. These features have become the basics for the formation of the thematic groups. The classification of the names of building materials is formed from five groups: organic materials / orgonicheskie materialy; inorganic materials / neorgonicheskie materialy; metals and metal products / metaly i izdelija iz nih; other building materials / prochie stroitel’nye materialy; properties of building materials / svojstva stroitel’nyh materialov. Properties of building materials is subdivided into models according to their structural characteristics: physical properties / fizicheskie svoystva; mechanical properties / mehanicheskie svojstva; defects / defekty.

The chapter deals mainly with the effect of impurities on the macro properties of metals made from steel, aluminium, copper, and zinc. It is about porosity, mechanical properties, strength, fatigue, and corrosion. It shows the effect of small amounts of inclusions and liquid impurities in bulk, on grain boundaries, and on the surface of the metals. The investigations have been carried out using mechanical tests, and advanced microscopic instruments like electron microscopes, X-ray diffraction, and different SIMS instruments (secondary ion mass spectrometry). The chapter lays the foundation for the need for refining of primary and secondary metals, i.e. recycling.

Metals Fabrication: Understanding the Basics describes the practices, processes, and procedures used throughout industry to produce metal products and goods. It begins with a review of primary mill processes and the basic steps for making iron, steel, aluminum, and titanium. It then covers nearly every subsequent fabrication process, starting with casting followed by forging, forming, machining, heat treating, finishing, and coating as well as powder-metal part production. The book provides a thorough review of each process, discussing typical implementations, material requirements, design considerations, and common imperfections and defects. It also explains how heat, force, and power generated by production equipment alter the metallurgical and mechanical properties of work in process, bringing practical perspective to many fundamental concepts including solidification, deformation, residual stress, fracture mechanics, wear, and phase transformations. Every year corrosion of metals leads to huge losses. Solving this problem is a very important task. The use of packaging materials with corrosion inhibitors is an innovative method to protect metal products from corrosion during transportation and storage. Polypropylene laminated fabrics have a number of advantages: durability, increased mechanical strength, they don’t rot, they are easy to be welded and sewed together, they are proof against water. Barrier and mechanical properties of polypropylene laminated fabric with and without volatile corrosion inhibitor are investigated in this research. The protective ability of polypropylene laminated fabrics for zinc-coated wire has been evaluated. It was found that polypropylene laminated fabric with corrosion inhibitor has higher mechanical properties and better protective ability against corrosion.

The mechanical properties of three titanium alloys (Ti-7Mo-3Al, Ti-7Mo- 3Cu and Ti-7Mo-3Ta) were evaluated as function of: 1) Solutionizing in the beta field and aging, 2) Thermal Mechanical Processing in the beta field and aging, 3) Solutionizing in the alpha + beta field and aging. The samples were isothermally aged in the temperature range 300° to 700*C for 4 to 24 hours, followed by a water quench. Transmission electron microscopy and X-ray method were used to identify the phase formed. All three alloys solutionized at 1050°C (beta field) transformed to martensitic alpha (alpha prime) upon being water quenched. Despite this heavily strained alpha prime, which is characterized by microtwins the tensile strength of the as-quenched alloys is relatively low and the elongation is as high as 30%.
