The development of inflammatory diseases of the cornea and conjunctiva, as well as the occurrence of infectious complications of intraocular surgery, are largely associated with the presence of saprophytic and pathogenic microflora in the conjunctival cavity. This circumstance is more characteristic of children. At the same time, the possibilities of antibacterial therapy of inflammatory eye diseases of bacterial and chlamydial etiology, as well as perioperative prophylaxis of infectious complications of intraocular surgical procedures in children, have significantly expanded today. The widespread use of fluoroquinolones has significantly improved the treatment of children with acute and chronic bacterial conjunctivitis, keratitis, blepharitis, meibomyitis, chalazion, as well as those with chronic conjunctivitis of chlamydial etiology. At the same time, levofloxacin fluoroquinolone of the 3rd generation, which is used in our country in the form of a 0.5% solution as eye drops Oftaquix (Santen, Finland), has demonstrated high efficacy for this purpose. The widespread introduction of the original 0.5% levofloxacin (Oftaquix), in the treatment regimen for children with inflammatory diseases of the cornea and conjunctiva, as well as for a perioperative prevention of infectious complications of surgical procedures involving them, is a promising way to solve the problem.

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) has caused a global pandemic and is posing a serious challenge to mankind. As per the current scenario, there is an urgent need for antiviral that could act as a protective and therapeutic against SARS-CoV-2. Previous studies have shown that SARS-CoV-2 is much similar to the SARS-CoV bat that occurred in 2002-03. Since it is a zoonotic virus, the exact source is still unknown, but it is believed bats may be the primary reservoir of SARS-CoV-2 through which it has been transferred to humans. In this review, we have tried to summarize some of the approaches that could be effective against SARS-CoV-2. Firstly, plants or plant-based products have been effective against different viral diseases, and secondly, plants or plant-based natural products have the minimum adverse effect. We have also highlighted a few vitamins and minerals that could be beneficial against SARS-CoV-2.

Hydrocortisone (Kendall's compound F, 17-hydroxycorticosterone, Cortisol) and cortisone (Kendall's compound E, 17-hydroxy-ll-dehydrocorticosterone) have been widely used in medicine for about 20 years, first as adrenal hormones in substitution therapy. Since the discovery of Hench, Kendal, Slocumb & Polley (1949) that cortisone is beneficial against a wide range of rheumatic diseases and against all forms of arthritis, many more types of diseases have been added in later years to the list of ailments curable with cortisone, namely bronchitis, bronchial asthma, pulmonary tuberculosis, colitis, various inflammatory conditions and certain skin, blood and eye diseases. Hydrocortisone is used against the same diseases as cortisone; in fact, it is believed that cortisone becomes pharmacologically active only after conversion to hydrocortisone in the liver (Cope, 1964). Particularly in the inflammatory conditions cortisone must be converted to hydrocortisone to become antiphlogistic (Applezweig, 1962). The biochemical mode of action of these drugs was not understood for many years.

Yoga and Ayurveda are the unique sciences of antiquity. Both were developed and practiced in similar circumstances with similar objectives in the same land. Both are based on similar concept of human existence. Currently there is an emerging trend towards the holistic approach to the health related problems. The study focuses on the role of Netikarma in eye diseases based on Yoga and Ayurveda concepts. The study aims to reveal the facts on the benefits of Netikarma w.s.r to eye diseases based on the concepts explained in Yoga and Ayurveda Shastra. Ayurveda and Yoga both accepts Panchajnanendriyas i.e., sense organs. Eye is considered to be superior amongst the sense organs. In Astanga Hridaya it is said that “All efforts should be made to protect our eyes because for the blind man day and night are the same.” Yoga shastra describes six purificatory measures (Shat Karma) as the means of Nadi Shodhana. Among the Shatkarmas, Trataka and Neti are said to bring clear vision. Therefore this study is taken up to understand the mode of action of Netikarma in eye disorders.

Thirty-two extremely anxious dental patients were given a modified form of systematic desensitization. In order to evaluate the importance of cognitive factors, a procedure of cognitive coping was added to the therapy program for half of the patients. Results show that treatment outcome was significantly better for the group without the addition of coping elements. It is suggested that the adverse effect observed may reflect an interference by the cognitively-oriented therapeutic activities with an otherwise effective therapeutic process.

Ayurveda being an ancient science it has developed through many experiences and experiment in medicines. Panchakarma therapy is a very imperative and essential part of Ayurvedic treatment. Panchakarma (Vaman,Virechan, Nasya, Anuvasan & niruha) practices to get complete cure of disease, Basti is the main treatment as it possesses a wide spectrum of effects and is thought to be the Ardhachikitsa (50% of all treatment modality) in Ayurveda. Though Basti is given in the Pakvashaya (Rectum and Colon) its active ingredients i.e. “Virya of the Basti” spreads in the entire body to get desire action. BastiVirya may act through enteric nervous system (ENS). The gastrointestinal system has a network of nerve fibres, which is known as ‘Enteric Nervous System (ENS). Similar to brain, ENS sends and receives impulses; record experiences and responds to various stimuli.
