Ancient science relating to plants has always been a source of drug discovery, and in ancient times, people used medicinal plants to fight against pandemics. Researchers suggest ancient medical practices like Ayurveda, Unani, and traditional herbal medicine as a potential source to cure or prevent diseases like COVID-19. The internet of things (IoT) aims to help solve real-world problems by connecting all modern-day devices. An internet of healthcare things (IoHT), a branch of IoT, is creating a revolution in medicine. We can incorporate ancient knowledge into the IoT system and help people worldwide fight this pandemic by spreading the knowledge of Ancient Indian medicinal practice.

Yoga is not only an art but also an ancient science that evolved more than 5000 years ago. It is practised by people from all walks of life in almost every part of the world. In the past, the practice, which was seen to be spiritual and divine, used to be confined to smaller groups of individuals who were seeking moksha or liberation; however, the trend has transformed over the decades. Today, there are so many yoga studios worldwide, and this has made it easy for yoga enthusiasts. This chapter investigates the effectiveness of yoga not only as a complementary therapy but also as a viable option in the management of stress, anxiety and depression. Articles were retrieved using PubMed, MEDLINE and PsychInfo databases. The findings reveal that the practice of yoga as a complementary therapy and stand-alone therapy is effective in managing stress, anxiety and depression. However, further research is needed as all the studies reviewed were limited in terms of heterogeneity, sample size, intervention styles, frequency and duration of practice, and also teaching methods. The chapter concludes with suggestions for home practice.

Ayurveda, the most ancient science means knowledge of life which serves mankind by providing a comprehen- sive, natural and holistic cure for diseases related to mind and body. The aim of Ayurveda is not only to treat the disease but also to protect the health of the healthy individual as said in the classics i.e., “swasthasya swasthya rakshanam aturasya vikara prashmanam ch”. Health in Ayurveda is defined as an accurate amount of Dosha, Dhatu and Mala. Any type of variations in quantity as well as quality leads to diseases. One of the dhatus i.e., Meda Dhatu is correlated with fat and lipid in modern science. This paper is about the method by which Meda Dhatu can be assessed according to Ayurveda. Keywords: meda, dhatu, swasthasya, assessment

Ayurveda is a valuable legacy bequeathed to us by ancient Indian sage-physicians. The present paper discusses the epistemology of this ancient science and the misconceptions surrounding it. Diligent research, both theoretical and experimental, in the twentieth century could have ensured the graduation of this proto-science into a full-fledged science. Instead, epistemological misconceptions and intellectual sloth have thwarted its refinement and progress. The paper appeals for an epistemological break that would facilitate an evidence-based appraisal of Ayurveda’s theories and practices. Such an appraisal would help realise Ayurveda’s full potential in serving India’s healthcare needs, especially at the level of primary care.

Humanity is in the midst of a major shift. To tackle the many challenges that face us, we will need a collective shift in consciousness — a shift from a worldview of separateness to a worldview of interconnectedness. This essay explores the interweaving of quantum science and ancient Chinese culture and examines how these two paradigms provide us a sense of how we are collectively evolving to higher levels of consciousness. A vision of this new era is described in detail, including how culture, models, values, economic structures, the systems of environmental restoration, education, healthcare, and food production will all change, creating a new way of living. The leaders who can help manifest this vision are called Quantum Leaders, and they must first experience their own shift in consciousness in order to lead this societal transformation.

Human body dissection was a ubiquitous practice in the past, to better understand anatomy and to develop medicine. Today, its role could still be important to answer everyday clinical queries and help surgeons. The example of the possible lack of anesthesia during symphysis surgeries can emphasize the usefulness of dissection. The mandibular symphysis usually receives innervation from inferior alveolar nerve terminations, but, in some rare cases, a particular anastomosis involves the lingual nerve and the nerve to the mylohyoid. The anatomical knowledge resulting from body dissections could help oral surgeons to understand the reason why the patient could feel pain during the surgery, and ensure performance of the right lingual nerve block to obtain complete anesthesia. This clinical situation shows the educational role of an ancient, yet still valid, practice, human dissection, and the importance of anatomical studies to improve surgical skills, to provide better treatment for the patient.
