Hawaii's beaches are of great economical and. social value; they serve a variety of purposes and are valuable both to residents and tourists alike. Like in many other parts of the world, many of Hawaii's beaches are in a state of erosion and measures of improvement must be designed to cope with this problem. Although in the past several studies have been undertaken to evaluate Hawaii's beach systems and to analyze possible measures of improvement, this study aims at an in-depth analysis of the physical factors at work in the coastal zone. A thorough understanding of these processes, it is felt, is indispensable for the application of sound and economic measures in stabilizing and maintaining Hawaii's beaches. This paper describes some preliminary results of field studies conducted in Waikiki Beach. The latter beach was chosen because of the pressing need for improvements and because of its convenient location. In order to project this study against the proper background, a short review of the general characteristics of Hawaiian beaches precedes the results of the Waikiki Beach study.

The past few years have seen an increase in the use of virtual reality (VR) in museum environments in an attempt for museums to embrace technological innovations and adapt to the challenges of the digital era. While there are studies that examine the advantages of VR in museums and visitors’ experiences with it, there are no studies examining the experiences of museum professionals who are responsible for a museum’s objects and narratives. The aim of this paper is to explore the practices, experiences, and perceptions of museum professionals on the use of VR technology in museums, their perceived advantages and challenges of such technologies, and their vision for the future of technology in museums. The paper provides an in-depth analysis of interviews with museum professionals from a number of countries around the world who worked with particular VR projects in their own institutions. The ultimate aim is to offer a more critical and holistic examination and assessment of the use of VR in museums and provide suggestions for designing and developing VR projects in the future.

1 Over the past 20 years plus that paraquat has been used throughout the world, it has enjoyed an excellent safety record when used normally and for its intended purpose. 2 Its safety record is explained by the following reasons: (i) inhalational exposure during normal use is not significant toxicologically; (ii) dermal exposure predominates during normal use; (iii) intact human skin provides a very good barrier against penetration by paraquat. 3 Its safety record has been confirmed by several field studies, which have assessed exposure and health of workers, who have used paraquat for short and longer periods of time. The unanimous conclusions of the studies is that exposure to paraquat does not result in any acute or chronic adverse health effects. 4 Minor and reversible injuries to the skin, eyes, nose and nails do occur and probably result from overexposure to the extremely irritant concentrated formulations. Most of these effects can be avoided using ordinary personal hygiene. 5 There have been a few anecdotal cases reported in the literature when dermal absorption of paraquat has genuinely occurred and led to serious health effects. In all cases prolonged exposure to concentrated paraquat solutions has been involved resulting in severe and extensive skin damage, with removal of the barrier and absorption of lethal amounts of the chemical. 6 Those cases involving exposure to concentrated paraquat solutions emphasise the need to handle such formulations, for example 'Gramoxone', with case and ensure that the spray solution is correctly made up-at a dilution of at least 1 part 'Gramoxone' to 40 parts water.

The world is going to a darkness without end. War, nationalism, discrimination and various conflicts tearing people. They are forced to migrate. Chemical weapons are being used. The children are being killed. Environmental disasters are happening. Boundary walls are built. The wars of religion are at the door. Kin hate seeds are being planted and transferred to future generations. Nationalism is on the rise. We are losing our desire to live together. Despite this, peace and tranquility in our surroundings are our greatest desires and we are right. Civil society should do something to stop it. In this sense, artists are the strongest propagandists. To support peace, art practices have become more important than the past. The artist's initiative is used both to rehabilitate society and to eliminate prejudices. Many international plastic art form is exemplified in this study. Complementary arts workshops, public artworks are examples of these. In addition, the results obtained from the workshop of Turkish Greek artists are presented with preliminary results and related examples.

Phenomenal growth in recent years has made the Chinese blogosphere the largest blogging space in the world. By embedding the blogs against the backdrop of the broad context of the Internet communication environment in China, this chapter offers a panoramic overview of the fast-evolving Chinese blogosphere and critically assesses its social, cultural, and political ramifications. The chapter starts with an examination of landmark developments and milestone events in the historical trajectory of blogging in China in the past decade, followed by an in-depth analysis of major trends, popular practices, and dominant blogger groups. Finally, the chapter evaluates emerging platforms and themes unfolding on the horizon, and discusses their future implications.

Behavioral economics is a field of research, where the analytical possibilities of psychology science are applied to the analysis of economic decision-making. This approach allows more in-depth analysis of the decision-making process of economic agents and opens up new opportunities for research aimed at increasing overall social benefits.This article examines the studies of Richard Thaler, noted by the Nobel Prize in Economics in 2017, devoted to the study of three psychological features of economic man which systematically affect the behavior of economic agents: limited rationality, the perception of justice (social preferences), and the problem of selfcontrol.Using the system approach, the author sets a goal to carry out a complex analysis of the theoretical, methodological and practical works of the Nobel Prize Laureate, that have received world recognition. The attention is also focused on the awarded Nobel Prize in connection with the peculiarities of the Nobel Committee’s policy of awarding that has been formed over the past few years, within the framework of the development of the world economic science.The article systematizes Thaler’s scientific contribution to economics. In addition, it concludes that awarding of the Nobel Prize in 2017 fits into the overall picture of awards in the last few years. At the same time, it notes one of the main directions of the Nobel Committee’s activities related to the “definition” of such research results and programs that could rehabilitate economic science after the past economic crisis and prevent further increase in the uncertainty of the world economic system.

This paper is about the problem of drought and its future. The research methods are both theoretical and field studies. This paper presents a mathematical model for drought analysis in Australia that can predict its future trend. It analyses three meteorological indicators, including annual rainfall, increases in temperature, and water consumption volume. Surveys about the mentioned indicators are from the past to the present and now to the future intervals. This paper suggests practical solutions to change the conditions of drought-affected regions. The research method, simulated exemplary, and outcomes of this paper are applicable everywhere in the world affected by the hydro-drought crisis.

Butterflies are one of the most attractive insects in the world, and they have been able to attract all kinds of peoples by their various features. This present documentation records the butterfly diversity of the three districts Jhargram, Paschim Medinipur, and Purba Medinipur, which formed the former Medinipur district. A total of 139 species belong to 94 genera and six families have been recorded. Among all families, Lycaenidae and Nymphalidae are the most abundant. Among the three districts, most species were found from Jhargram district. Fluffy Tit, Angled Pierrot and Common Lascar are the first time recorded from southern West Bengal. Rapid urbanization, deforestation, uncontrolled developmental works, and changing the character of Coastal zone is some of the threats to butterflies in these areas. So it was a great need to prepare a list of butterflies by which the past changes in the species diversity and number of butterflies in the future able to understand.

Maricullure in coastal zone, such as the bays, inlets, or lagoons in coral reef is becoming more important in the world fishery activities. In Indonesia, some culture experiments are being conducted, such as for oyster (Crassostrea tuculata BORN) in Banten Bay, and seaweed (Eucheuma spinosum) in Samaringa Islands (Central Sulawesi) and Talang islands (Riau Archipelago), while culture of cockle (Anadara granose LIN.) based on a simple method have been conducted by local fishermen from Ketapang (West Jawa) since several years ago. Some preliminary results of culture experiments are given.

Ever since Habraken and Economopoulos first employed the term granular bainite to classify certain unconventional transformation products in continuously cooled steels, the term has been widely accepted and used, despite the lack of a clear consensus as to the detailed nature of the transformation products which constitute granular bainite. This paper presents the preliminary results of a TEM investigation of an 0.04 wt% C, copper-containing steel (designated HSLA-100). It is suggested that the term granular ferrite rather than granular bainite is a more accurate description of this multiphase reaction product.Figure 1 is a light micrograph of a sample which had been air-cooled from 900°C to room temperature. The microstructure is typical of that which has been termed granular bainite in the past and appears to consist of equiaxed ferritic grains together with other minor transformation products. In order to examine these structures in more detail, both continuously cooled and isothermally transformed and quenched materials have been examined with TEM. Granular bainite has been found in virtually all samples.

Advances in camera technology and digital instrument control have meant that in modern microscopy, the image that was, in the past, typically recorded on a piece of film is now recorded directly into a computer. The transfer of the analog image seen in the microscope to the digitized picture in the computer does not mean, however, that the problems associated with recording images, analyzing them, and preparing them for publication, have all miraculously been solved. The steps involved in the recording an image to film remain largely intact in the digital world. The image is recorded, prepared for measurement in some way, analyzed, and then prepared for presentation.Digital image acquisition schemes are largely the realm of the microscope manufacturers, however, there are also a multitude of “homemade” acquisition systems in microscope laboratories around the world. It is not the mission of this tutorial to deal with the various acquisition systems, but rather to introduce the novice user to rudimentary image processing and measurement.
