Abstract Dura-Bar 65-45-12X is a ductile iron that is used for the production of continuous cast products. Its microstructure consists of nodular graphite and a matrix comprising ferrite and 10–50% pearlite. The predominantly ferritic matrix of Dura-Bar 65-45-12X allows it to be easily machined as opposed to steels and pearlitic irons. Dura-Bar 65-45-12X is a suitable alternative to low and medium carbon non-alloy steels. It is appropriate for applications necessitating fatigue strength and ductility. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, microstructure, hardness, elasticity, and tensile properties. It also includes information on heat treating and machining. Filing Code: CI-88. Producer or source: Charter Dura-Bar, Inc.

Mg-Al-Ca-Mn alloys with Ca/Al ≥ 1 of AX33, AX44, and AX55 were prepared by combining three processes of water-cooling semi-continuous cast, homogenization heat treatment, and hot extrusion. The as-fabricated alloys translated into composites consisting of α-Mg solid solution + granular Al2Ca. These alloys exhibited some favourable properties such as a tensile strength of 324~350 MPa at room temperature and 187~210 MPa at elevated temperature of 423 K, an ignition temperature of 1292~1344 K, and so on. Variation trend between performance and content of Al and Ca is given in this paper. The result indicated that the emerged second-phase Al2Ca in the alloys was beneficial to the improvement in mechanical properties, heat resistance, flame retardation, and corrosion resistance.

Introduction. The multifunctional magnetodynamic tundish prototype is the first world magnetodynamic mixer and batcher for steel, which has a capacity of up to 10 tons of melt and an inductor electric power of 600 kW. Ithas been successfully introduced into industry. Further works aim at adapting this device to continuous casting, in particular at obtaining semi-continuous cast billets at metallurgical micro-plants.Problem Statement. Today, the study of the effect of electromagnetic field on melt stirring and removal of non-metallics in the inlet chamber of MD-T is an urgent task.Purpose. The purpose of this research is to substantiate and to create MD-T as a two-chamber aggregate additionally equipped with a few electromagnetic & MHD devices for different purposes, to be used at metallurgical micro-mills.Materials and Methods. Physical modelling has been applied for studying liquid metal stirring under the action of electromagnetic field and the removal of non-metallics.Results. The behavior of the liquid jet falling from the ladle into the centrifugal chamber has been studied. The influence of the rational liquid level in the centrifugal chamber, which is exposed to the direct action of the electromagnetic field, has been estimated. It has been established that the effect of rotation of the total liquid volumehas been achieved at the height of application of electromagnetic field, which is 0.2—0.3 of the total fill height. Increasing the height of the application of a magnetic field leads to the capture of the upper layers of the liquid.Conclusions. There have been proposed a new design of magnetodynamic tundish (MD-T) for continuous casting of steel. The use of tundish with a rotational motion of the flow may significantly reduce the number of large oxide inclusions (larger than 10 µm) in steel. The device has been successfully tested and its application will improve the quality of cast billets, extend the functionality of equipment and technologies, and enable the realization of modern high-efficiency processes of continuous casting.

The purpose of the work was to examine the reasons for formation of non-deformable non-metallic inclusions in rail steel and ways to reduce the rejection of finished rails due to the defects revealed during ultrasonic testing. The study was conducted at the steelmaking plant of JSC “Ural Steel”. In the central laboratory of the combine, a chemical analysis of non-metallic inclusions was carried out in the samples of finished rails produced from blanks manufactured by JSC “Ural Steel” and rejected at the ultrasonic test unit during the rail production at the “Aktobe Rail and Section Works” LLP. Non-metallic inclusions by their composition are represented by aluminium oxides. The most probable reasons for their formation have been determined as following: the use of aluminium containing ferroalloys and interaction of the melt components with refractory materials and casting powder. The authors made analysis of the ferroalloys used in production of rail steel. Industrial trials of the manufacturing process of continuously cast blanks from rail steel were carried out, where FS65 ferrosilicon, which contains aluminium, was replaced with silicon carbide. An increasing degree of silicon and carbon recovery in trial heats was noted. Evaluation of contamination with non-metallic inclusions and mechanical properties of the rail steel manufactured using the experimental technology showed that the service characteristics of the rail steel meet requirements of the state standard GOST R 51685 – 2013. The full-scale experiment has confirmed that the technology of alloying E76F rail steel with silicon carbide at JSC “Ural Steel” is technically feasible. The yield of 100-meter rails was increased by 17 % on a trial batch produced from JSC “Ural Steel” continuously cast blanks.

In this work, based on the analysis of the process of hot pilger rolling of pipes of a wide range of sizes and grades from a round continuous cast billet, new and improved existing metal-saving technologies have been developed to reduce metal losses in the pilger head.Using scientific and patent sources of information in the field of pilger rolling and its mathematical modeling with the calculation of tables for rolling pipes of a wide range of sizes from a round continuous-cast billet with a diameter of 385-470 mm, metal losses into technological scrap on a pilgerstan are determined: a seed and a pilger head.On the basis of the results of the theoretical determination of metal losses in the process scrap on the pilgerstan: the seed and the pilger head, a forecast was made to reduce the weight of the pilger head, which was used to develop new material-saving technologies for pilger rolling of pipes, both thick-walled with D / S = 6 - 12.5, and thin-walled with D / S = 12.5 - 40. Metal losses in the pilger head are the main factor of increased metal consumption coefficients on pilger units, which reduces their competitiveness in comparison with other units when using round continuously cast billets as a starting material. The forecast for the reduction of metal losses in the pilger head made for the first time makes it possible to estimate the reserves for reducing the mass of the pilger head both by eliminating the underflow of the liner and trimming of the pipe end adjacent to the pilger head, and by means of individual parts of its profile part and predicting its decrease to the minimum possible size, ensuring the removal of the pipe from the mandrel using a gate device. To reduce the weight of the pilger head when rolling thick-walled pipes, it is recom-?ended to use improved technologies for butt-end rolling and rolling of the pilger head on the free section of the mandrel. The results of the studies and the proposed new material-saving technologies can be used on pilgrim units when rolling thick-walled (D / S = 6 - 12.5) and thin-walled (D / S = 12.5 - 40) pipes of a wide range of brands (carbon, alloyed, highly alloyed and special) from both continuous casting machine and forged and centrifugally cast billets, as well as ingots.
