The network Twitch hosts a novel form of collective viewing of audiovisual products, whose audience is centennials. We analyse the case of Watch Parties, which allow users to watch films in real time with a streamer. Taking three Watch Parties of the streamer Lynx_Reviewer as a case study, a methodological triangulation is carried out: virtual ethnography, content analysis and semi-structured interview. By exploring the phenomenon, a model of analysis of collective consumption of content is constructed thanks to a descriptive systematisation of the audience’s consumption habits and uses by analysing the conversations and messages generated in the transmissions. The results obtained show that, despite the disparity of content and channels broadcasting on Twitch, this format follows a common pattern of broadcasting, participation, interface and type of messages. It is a leisure experience based on the collective construction of content developed synchronously with the interaction of the audience, which uses its own references and expressive codes to communicate, using films as a means of interaction within the community.

Purpose: To describe the longitudinal structural changes of myopic traction maculopathy (MTM) based on optical coherence tomography (OCT) and to detect biomarkers in the evolution of MTM.Methods: A retrospective study was conducted on patients with MTM as defined by OCT. A minimum follow-up of 6 months was necessary for study inclusion. The effects of comprehensive OCT-based structure on the evolution of MTM, the progression rates, and resolution rates of MTM were evaluated. Results: A total of 120 eyes (120 patients) were included with an average follow-up of 15.4 months. During the follow-up, MTM progressed in 32 eyes (26.67%). The most common pattern of progression observed was the increased extent of retinoschisis in 12 eyes. The multivariate analysis showed that the presence of MTM progression had a significant correlation with internal limiting membrane (ILM) detachment and retinoschisis involved the entire macula at baseline. Five eyes (4.17%) experienced MTM resolution, of which 2 eyes developed disruptions of detached ILM, two eyes developed disruptions of epiretinal membrane, and one eye developed partial posterior vitreous detachment. Eyes with foveal detachment showed the highest progression rate (41.67%) and highest resolution rate (16.67%) compared to the eyes with other foveal complications. Conclusion: ILM detachment is a risk factor for MTM progression and MTM resolution can occur after ILM disruption. These suggest that ILM may play an important role as a biomarker in the evolution of MTM.

Abstract Background Assessement of the pattern of admission and treatment outcomes of critically ill pediatrics admitted to pediatric intensive care units (PICU) in developing countries is crucial. In these countries with resource limitations, it may help to identify priorities for resource mobilization that may improve patient service quality. The PICU mortality rate varies globally, depending on the facilities of the intensive care unit, availability of experties, and admission patterns. This study assessed the admission pattern, treatment outcomes, and associated factors for children admitted to the PICU. Methods A retrospective cross-sectional study was implemented on 406 randomly selected pediatrics patients admitted to the PICU of Tikur Anbessa Specialized Hospital from 1-Oct-2018 to 30-Sept-2020. The data were collected with a pretested questionnaire. A normality curve was used to check for data the distribution. Both bivariable and multivariable analyses were used to see association of variables. A variable with a p-value of < 0.2 in the bivariable model was a candidate for multivariate analysis. The strength of association was shown by an adjusted odds ratio (AOR) with a 95% Confidence interval (CI), and a p-value of < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Frequency, percentage, and tables were used to present the data. Results A total of 361 (89% response rate) patient charts were studied, 197 (54.6%) were male, and 164(45.4%) were female. The most common pattern for admission was a septic shock (27.14%), whereas the least common pattern was Asthma 9(2.50%). The mortality rate at the pediatric intensive care unit was 43.8%. Moreover, mechanical ventilation need (AOR = 11.2, 95%CI (4.3–28.9), P < 0.001), need for inotropic agents (AOR = 10.7, 95%CI (4.1–27.8), P < 0.001), comorbidity (AOR =8.4, 95%CI (3.5–20.5), P < 0.001), length of PICU stay from 2 to 7 days (AOR = 7.3, 95%CI (1.7–30.6), P = 0.007) and severe GCS (< 8) (AOR = 10.5, 95%CI (3.8–29.1), P < 0.001) were independent clinical outcome predictors (mortality). Conclusion The mortality rate at the PICU was 43.8%. Septic shock, and meningitis were the common cause of death and the largest death has happened in less than 7 days of admission.

Abstract The general morphology, micromorphology, and anatomy of the flowers of Clivia miniata , Clivia nobilis , and Scadoxus multiflorus were studied using light microscopy. The studied species have large syntepalous and trimerous flowers, short floral tubes with adnate stamens, and inferior ovaries that develop baccate fruit. The gynoecium in the studied species consists of synascidiate, symplicate, and hemisymplicate zones. The style is composed of postgenitally fused carpels. The few ovules are located in a locule in the synascidiate and symplicate zones in C. miniata and C. nobilis , whereas in S. multiflorus , solitary ovules occupy the synascidiate zone in each locule. The septal nectaries are located in the hemisymplicate zone and occupy the uppermost 29% to 56% of the ovary height. Septal nectaries are of the nonlabyrinthine lilioid-type, covered with secretory tissue only in its lower portion. Nectary channels are apical or subapical and open near the style base. A common pattern of the venation of the floral parts was observed in all species: Tepal traces and stamen traces were fused in the ovary wall, the style was supplied by dorsal carpellary bundles, and ovules were supplied by ventral carpellary bundles entering the ovary from the bottom. The observed gynoecium inner structure provides adaptations for the development of fleshy fruit, with thickened parenchymous ovary wall, ovary base, and ovary roof, and numerous branched vascular bundles in the ovary wall around locules.

This paper discusses the problems of lexicographical representation of Modern Greek constructional phrasemes – productive phraseological patterns with one or more variable components (slots). The analysis of Modern Greek general and phraseological dictionaries has shown that, in Modern Greek lexicography, there is no unified approach towards the description of this type of phraseologisms. One of the significant problems associated with lexicographical treatment of Modern Greek constructional phrasemes is that some of them are registered in dictionaries as fully fixed expressions with their slot(s) filled with a specific lexeme or a specific proposition, without any indication that these expressions possess a variable component. Such lexicographical representation of productive phraseological patterns does not reflect the real linguistic usage and does not allow the reader of the dictionary to understand that the expressions described in the dictionary as fully fixed show considerable variation and possess one or two slots that can be filled with a wide range of words or word combinations. The corpus analysis of the constructional phraseme Ούτε να Ρ (literally, ‘neither if’), which is registered in Modern Greek dictionaries in five different, all fully lexically specified forms, has shown that the specific realizations of this productive phraseological pattern included in the dictionaries either have relatively low frequency of occurrence in the corpus, or are not encountered in the corpus at all. Other realizations of this phraseological pattern account for over 92 % of all the cases of its use in the corpus, but the common pattern behind them can hardly be identified with the help of the existing lexicographical descriptions, as it is registered in the dictionaries under the lemmas of five different lexemes that do not form part of its fixed component. Based on the findings of this study, the paper raises the issue of developing a new approach towards the description of productive phraseological patterns that currently pose a significant challenge for adequate lexicographical representation.

Abstract Lactation is defined as the combined processes of synthesis, secretion, and excretion of milk, starting at calving and continuing until natural or induced drying off in the lactating female. Milk production follows a common pattern in several mammalian species known as a lactation curve. A typical lactation curve starts at day four after calving, reaching peak yield in early lactation, followed by a daily decrease in milk yield (persistency) until the lactating female is artificially dried off, or the lactation comes to a natural end. Mathematical models have been applied to lactation curves to provide information in relation to lactation curve parameters, providing valuable information for herd management and breeding decisions. Therefore, the aim of this study was to review the most used mathematical models for the prediction of dairy production curves. The importance of modelling lactation curves is to predict the yield for each day with the minimum possible error, to be able to elucidate the underlying pattern of milk production in the presence of local variation associated with the effect of the environment. The usefulness of any model of adjustment to the lactation curve depends on its capacity to mimic the biological process of developing milk production and to adjust the factors that affect it. Furthermore, these models can only be used to adjust productive records adequately, or to provide a biological understanding of the lactation process.

For much of 2020, countries around the world fought against the COVID-19 pandemic. Many countries went into lockdown to control the fast spread of the virus. The unusual restrictions and confinement of the lockdown brought about new challenges for people’s everyday lives. With flexibility, adaptability, and problem-solving at the core of its nature, creativity has the potential to help people cope with harsh and uncertain circumstances. Were people more, the same, or less creative in their everyday life during the period of lockdown, and in which ways? What are the emotions and motivations underlying their creative or non-creative behaviors? The current study aims to explore these questions from a cross-cultural perspective. A total of 754 comparable employee samples from three Chinese and three German cities were asked about their moods during the lockdown period, their self-rated level of creativity in daily lives before and during the lockdown, and their motivations behind their creative activities. Significant increases in creativity were observed in all everyday activities in both countries with only two exceptions in the German sample. Despite minor differences, a common pattern was found across cultures: whereas the activating positive mood could directly lead to the increase in creativity in some everyday activities, such a direct Mood-Creativity link was limited in the activating negative mood circumstances. In such circumstances, motivation intervened to enable the link to creativity. It was also found that this indirect effect of motivation between mood and creativity was more pronounced with the German participants.

Abstract Delivering healthcare at home emerged as a key advancement to reduce healthcare costs and infection risks, as during the SARS-Cov2 pandemic. In particular, in motor training applications, wearable and portable devices can be employed for movements recognition and monitoring of the associated brain signals. In this context, it is essential to minimize the monitoring setup and the amount of data to collect, process, and share. In this paper, we address this challenge for a monitoring system that includes high-dimensional EEG and EMG data for hand movements classification. We fuse EEG and EMG into the magnitude squared coherence (MSC) signal, from which we extracted features using different algorithms (one from the authors) to solve binary classification problems. Finally, we propose a mapping-and-aggregating strategy to increase the interpretability of the machine learning results. The proposed approach provides very low mis-classification errors ( < 0. 1 ), with very few and stable MSC features ( < 10% of the initial set of available features). Furthermore, we identified a common pattern across algorithms and classification problems, i.e., the activation of the centro-parietal brain areas and arm ’s muscles in 8 ÷ 80 Hz, in line with previous literature. Thus, this study represents a step forward to the minimization of a reliable EEG-EMG setup to enable precise motor training at home.

Addiction and certain varieties of interpersonal attachment share strikingly similar psycho-behavioural structures. For example, both the addicted and the interpersonally attached often report a common pattern of cognition, affect, and motivation directed toward the relevant object. This pattern includes, inter alia, recurring and recalcitrant thoughts about the object that captivate one’s attention, intense longing for the object, feelings of bliss upon obtaining the object, and feelings of dejection when one is deprived of it for too long. These thoughts, feelings, and desires tend to motivate the agent to seek out the object for various kinds of interaction. Neuroscientists, psychologists, and philosophers have often adduced these similarities between addiction and attachment to argue that many typical cases of romantic love represent addictions to one’s partner and thus might be appropriate candidates for medical treatment. In this chapter, I argue for the relatively neglected thesis that some paradigmatic cases of addiction are aptly characterized as emotional attachments to their objects. This has implications for how we should understand the nature of addiction and for the ethics of attachment more broadly.

Background Behcet’s disease (BD) can entail vascular involvement in various forms including aneurysm. We evaluated the angiographic patterns and changes in arterial lesions over time in BD patients with arterial involvement. Methods We reviewed the medical records of BD patients diagnosed with arterial lesions between 1995 and 2018. Angiographic patterns were categorized as stenosis, occlusion, dilatation, or aneurysm. Patients were divided according to symptom duration (<5, 5–10, >10 years). Cox proportional-hazards model was used to evaluate the risk factors for vascular progression. Results 47 BD patients had arterial involvement in the following patterns: aneurysm ( n = 31), stenosis ( n = 17), dilatation ( n = 13), and occlusion ( n = 8). Aneurysm (70.8%) was the most common pattern in 24 patients with short (<5 years) symptom duration. Stenosis was more common (50.0%) in 12 patients with longer symptom durations (>10 years). In 23 patients with follow-up imaging (median, 5.7 years), eight (34.8%) developed 11 new lesions: stenosis ( n = 5), dilatation ( n = 1), and aneurysm ( n = 5). One stenotic lesion progressed to occlusion, and two dilated lesions progressed to aneurysms. Lower extremity involvement and methotrexate use were associated with arterial progression, with hazard ratios of 5.716 ( p = 0.029) and 0.101 ( p = 0.049), respectively. Conclusion In BD patients with arterial involvement, aneurysm was the most common pattern in earlier stages of BD, while stenosis was more common in later stages of BD. Methotrexate use was associated with lower risk of arterial lesion progression.
