Abstract. Global Positioning System (GPS) technique has been extensively implemented in determination of crustal deformation globally. With the ability of providing solution up to milimeter (mm) level, this technique has proven to provide a precise estimate of site velocity that represents the actual motion of tectonic plate over a period. Therefore, this study aims to evaluate the site velocity estimation from GPS-derived daily position of station, respective to the global plate motion model and predicted site velocity via Least-Squares Collocation (LSC) method within the tectonically active region of Sundaland. The findings have indicated that stations with precise velocity estimates were consistent with global plate model and predicted velocity, with velocity residuals of 5 mm – 10 mm. However, stations that were severely impacted by continuous earthquake events such as in Sumatra were believed to be induced by the impact with consistently large velocity residuals up to 37 mm. Following the outcomes, this study has provided an insight on the post-seismic decay period plate motion which are induced by continuous tectonic activities respective to modelled plate motion.

COVID-19 not only poses a huge threat to public health, but also affects people’s mental health. Take scientific and effective psychological crisis intervention to prevent large-scale negative emotional contagion is an important task for epidemic prevention and control. This paper established a sentiment classification model to make sentiment annotation (positive and negative) about the 105,536 epidemic comments in 86 days on the official Weibo of People’s Daily, the test results showed that the accuracy of the model reached 88%, and the AUC value was greater than 0.9. Based on the marked data set, we explored the potential law between the changes in Internet public opinion and epidemic situation in China. First of all, we found that most of the Weibo users showed positive emotions, and the negative emotions were mainly caused by the fear and concern about the epidemic itself and the doubts about the work of the government. Secondly, there is a strong correlation between the changes of epidemic situation and people’s emotion. Also, we divided the epidemic into three period. The proportion of people’s negative emotions showed a similar trend with the number of newly confirmed cases in the growth and decay period, and the extinction period. In addition, we also found that women have more positive emotional performance than men, and the high-impact groups is also more positive than the low-impact groups. We hope that these conclusions can help China and other countries experiencing severe epidemics to guide publics respond.

This paper reports a study into the effect of nanoclays on the water-resistance of the intumescent system ammonium polyphosphate/melamine/pentaerythritol/titanium dioxide/polymer (ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) or styrene acrylate (SA). It has been established that adding nanoclay to a coating based on ethylene vinyl acetate increases the fire resistance limit of a metal plate by 30 %, and to a coating based on styrene acrylate – by 50 %. At the same time, coatings that include the EVA polymer are characterized by greater fire-retardant efficiency and less water resistance than coatings containing the SA polymer. It has been shown that intumescent coatings, regardless of the nature of the polymer, under the conditions of 80 % humidity over 800 days their reduce fire-protective properties by an average of 10 %. The loss of coating fire resistance occurs due to the leaching of pentaerythritol, ammonium polyphosphate, and polymer degradation by hydrolysis. The admixtures of nanoclays with a high degree of exfoliation to the studied system create a barrier effect and maximize the chemical formulation of the intumescent coating. The fireproof properties of coatings with organically-modified montmorillonite admixtures are maintained or reduced to 5 % under the conditions of 80 % humidity over 800 days. It has been determined that the direct effect of water on the coating over a period of more than 2 days leads to a significant decrease in the swelling coefficient of intumescent coatings, regardless of the content of a nanoclay admixture in their composition. At the same time, the half-decay period of coatings without nanoclay, calculated on the basis of solubility constant in water, is 0.5 days. For coatings, which include the admixtures of organically-modified nanoclays, the half-decay period increases to 2 days. The results reported in this paper could be recommended for designing water-proof fire-resistant reactive-type nano-coatings with prolonged service life.

Using the 13 m diameter LEGI-Coriolis rotating platform, the evolution processes of a generated anticyclonic eddy throughout its lifecycle are analyzed. Experimental results have shown that the eddy lasted for approximately 3T0, where T0 is the rotating period of 90 s. After T = 0.3T0, the eddy enters its mature phase, whereby following this event, eddy intensity slowly decreases from its maximum rotation speed. By T = 2.6T0, the eddy enters a stage of rapid weakening. In its decay period, two underlying mechanisms for this decay have been identified as inertial instability and eddy–eddy interactions.

Abstract Chlorella vulgaris was cultivated in different proportions of activated sludge extracts, which was from the treatment of synthetic wastewater containing tetrachlorophenol. The growth period of C. vulgaris could be shortened for about 10 days when sludge extract was mixed into BG11 culture substrate, and the growth of C. vulgaris was promoted during the period of adaptation and logarithmic period. In the stable and decay period, when the proportion of sludge extract increased to 50%, cell proliferation was inhibited. There was an evident positive correlation between the total and average amount of starch polysaccharide with sludge concentration. When C. vulgaris was cultivated with pure sludge extracts, the total amount of starch and polysaccharide was up to 103 and 125 mg/L. Therefore, the low-toxic sludge extracts were more beneficial to the accumulation of carbohydrates. In the 100% sludge extracts culture medium, chlorophyll-a in C. vulgaris was accumulated to 30.2 mg/L on the 25th day. Through the analysis of algal cells' ultrastructures, it was shown that the photosynthesis was strengthened greatly with low-toxic sludge extracts. The results show that the rich heterotrophic carbon source in the sludge extract can be used as an excellent medium for Chlorella. It provides new ideas for the harmless utilization of surplus sludge as a resource. At the same time, the use of nutrients in the sludge extract to cultivate Chlorella is of great significance to low-cost algae cultivation.

Ring footings are widely used as a foundation for water tanks, television antennas, silos, chimneys, oil storage tanks, etc. This paper is conducted to study the ring footing model's experimental cyclic behavior and circular footing resting on sandy soil reinforced with geocell. A group of ninety-six test models has been tested to investigate shallow footings' behavior beneath a cyclic loading of various loading rates. Four shapes of footing sand with three relative densities, two embedment depths of footing, two loading rates, and two widths of geocell were used. It was founded that as the footing depth increases, the settlement of soil due to cyclic loading decreases. Generally, when other variables are maintained to be the same, the footing bearing capacity increases when the foundation depth increases. The footing rebounds to some degree during the decay period of the load. The presence of geocell at the footing depth equals 100 mm will provide more improvement in all footing models more than using it at the surface, especially in ring 2 where the radius ratio is 0.4.

The results of the investigations of the activity concentration of natural radionuclides in certain building materials and foodstuff samples obtained from the Nurabad district of the Samarkand region of Uzbekistan are presented. The gamma radiation spectra of the samples were measured in Marinelli beaker geometry on γ- spectrometer with a Ge(Li) detector and energy resolution 6% on the 1332 keV line of 60Co. A personal computer and standard computer programs were used to accumulate and process the spectra. The characteristic density of the samples ranged from 140 to 1810 g/l. The activity concentration of 40K was observed to be comparatively higher than that of both 226Ra and 232Th in all the studied samples. The results reveal that the low activity of 137Cs in the samples is attributed due to its half-life decay period.

Abstract Background and Aims Quanta Dialysis Technologies has developed a compact, powerful personal haemodialysis system intended for home and self-care use designed in collaboration with patients and healthcare practitioners. Human factors testing is necessary to demonstrate ease of use with minimal up-front training. Method In compliance with FDA guidance and EU standards, the user interface of the system was evaluated through human factors testing to assess the safe and effective use of SC+. This included a series of user-based tasks whereby representative users independently setup SC+ into a simulated treatment, managed alarms to resolution and external SC+ cleaning/disinfection. All participants received an introduction to SC+ and completed a competency sign off at the end of training. 17 healthcare professionals (6 renal nurses, 8 dialysis technicians, 1 patient care technician) received up to 4 hours of structured training followed by a 1-day learning decay period. In addition, 10 lay users (8 dialysis patients, 2 caregivers) received between 5.5 and 7.5 hours training followed by a 2-day learning decay period. Results Between the two user groups, there were a total of 8,110 opportunities for use errors to occur. Despite minimal training and representative learning decay, only 4 significant use events were observed requiring some user manual enhancements. Other use errors captured were minor or could not be mitigated further due to clinical practices and shared inherent risks across all haemodialysis systems. Conclusion The results of the human factors testing demonstrated that healthcare practitioners, patients and caregivers successfully operated SC+ independently with a high level of use safety, despite minimal training and learning decay. The SC+ user interface is optimized for safe and effective use under FDA guidance and EU standards.
