This paper seeks to create a comparative framework for evaluating transformative experiences for different types of ritual contexts found in sacred architecture by bridging the gap between the phenomenology of human experience and architecture’s built conditions. The methodology creates a framework for statistical analysis, whereby evidence of people’s actual (i.e., real, lived) “subjective” experiences can be evaluated against the “objective” architectural conditions. The comparative framework is put to the test by comparing the experiential and environmental conditions found at the Pantheon in Rome. Experiential data for the Pantheon is extracted from Julio Bermudez’s large survey database (N = 2872) of “extraordinary architectural experiences” for this study. This data is compared against “objective” graphical architecture analysis using Lindsay Jones’ “morphology of ritual-architectural priorities” with a specific focus on ritual contexts. The quantitative and qualitative data reveals that the Pantheon produces transformative experiences for visitors that are related to the expected outcomes of specific design features. The percentages from the “objective” and “subjective” analysis both rank the priorities of theatre, contemplation, and sanctuary in the same order. This study concludes that built environments possessing a higher presence and quality of “ritual-architectural priorities” are more likely to be perceived as sacred and produce transformative experiences.

The combination of techniques that incorporate observational data may improve numerical weather prediction forecasts; thus, in this study, the methodology and potential value of one such combination were investigated. A series of experiments on a single case day was used to explore a 3DVAR-based technique (the variational version of the Local Analysis and Prediction System; vLAPS) in combination with Newtonian relaxation (observation and analysis nudging) for simulating moist convection in the Advanced Research version of the Weather Research and Forecasting model. Experiments were carried out with various combinations of vLAPS and nudging for a series of forecast start times. A limited subjective analysis of reflectivity suggested all experiments generally performed similarly in reproducing the overall convective structures. Objective verification indicated that applying vLAPS analyses without nudging performs best during the 0–2 h forecast in terms of placement of moist convection but worst in the 3–5 h forecast and quickly develops the most substantial overforecast bias. The analyses used for analysis nudging were at much finer temporal and spatial scales than usually used in pre-forecast analysis nudging, and the results suggest that further research is needed on how to best apply analysis nudging of analyses at these scales.

BACKGROUND: Previous studies have shown that using some post-processing methods, such as nonlinear-blending and linear blending techniques, has potential to improve dual-energy computed (DECT) image quality. OBJECTIVE: To improve DECT image quality of hepatic portal venography (CTPV) using a new non-linear blending method with computer-determined parameters, and to compare the results to additional linear and non-linear blending techniques. METHODS: DECT images of 60 patients who were clinically diagnosed with liver cirrhosis were selected and studied. Dual-energy scanning (80 kVp and Sn140 kVp) of CTPV was utilized in the portal venous phase through a dual-source CT scanner. For image processing, four protocols were utilized including linear blending with a weighing factor of 0.3 (protocol A) and 1.0 (protocol B), non-linear blending with fixed blending width of 200 HU and set blending center of 150HU (protocol C), and computer-based blending (protocol D). Several image quality indicators, including signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR) and contrast of hepatic portal vein and hepatic parenchyma, were evaluated using the paired-sample t-test. A 5-grade scale scoring system was also utilized for subjective analysis. RESULTS: SNR of protocols A-D were 9.1±2.1, 12.1±3.0, 11.6±2.8 and 14.4±3.2, respectively. CNR of protocols A-D were 4.6±1.3, 8.0±2.3, 7.0±2.0 and 9.8±2.4, respectively. The contrast of protocols A-D were 37.7±11.6, 91.9±21.0, 66.2±19.0 and 107.7±21.3, respectively. The differences between protocol D and other three protocols were significant (P <  0.01). In subjective evaluation, the modes of protocols A, B, C, and D were rated poor, good, generally acceptable, and excellent, respectively. CONCLUSION: The non-linear blending technique of protocol D with computer-determined blending parameters can help improve imaging quality of CTPV and contribute to a diagnosis of liver disease.

The definition of research appears to be a controversial subject in the academic community. It is almost becoming apparent that research remains a key element in master’s and doctoral degrees. Originality is, to varying degrees, the primary concern for the genuineness of research, but there is a difference of opinion on the concept of originality. In practice, a subjective analysis of originality is performed at the time of the assessment of the said degrees’ theses; therefore, the resulting evaluation is affected by the difference of opinion on the concept of originality. It has also emerged that the concept of originality in research is also marginally unique in various areas. This study is focused upon reaching a point of agreement for the definition of originality in the theses/dissertation of masters and doctorate degrees in engineering only. The outcome of the research should be something new and originally contribute to the body of knowledge. This study focused on to arrive at an accurate definition of originality in university degrees in the field of engineering. An online survey was designed and carried out on the basis of evidence and expert opinion. The survey was distributed amongst engineering peers. The results of the survey are systematically summed up in the study.

In Engineering Industries suffering due to industrial wound and ill health, of the Computer Numerical Control machines operators are in the increasing trend, in the subjective analysis which we carried out for the CNC machine, the operators expressing the discomfort at the neck, upper back, lower back, shoulder, and arm because of working with the keys in the controls and viewing the display. The aim of this examination is to identify the most favourable location of control and display through various muscles that activate while performing in CNC machine operations. We introduce surface Electromyogram (EMG) to determine the muscle activity and deliberate on plane of the body close to respective muscles of an operator.The muscle activity measured for all the twenty subjects, at five different levels to find out the best optimal location for controls and display to establish the findings of the subjective study. Though there is no clear trend when all the subjects are aggregated, it is seen that 90 cm-100 cm be the optimum range for the midpoint of the control panel and 143cm-148 cm appears to be the optimum range for the midpoint of the display. Since changes in muscle activity are comparatively small for all the six muscles taken for study, however, the effect of cumulative activity borne over a shift, week, month, and year are to be considered. Muscle activity may increase in repetitive head/finger movements. These combined effects are to be captured for the ergonomic design of the CNC operator interface.

In its original manufacturing purpose, Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) is an industrial product with a short life cycle and waste with high negative environmental impact. Given this externality, this article contributes to the state of the art by proposing reuse EPS as a raw material valuable to the process of manufacturing hats in a Mexican company. The SCAMPER technique is used to formulate a hardener, which is optimized with a Taguchi design. Statistically, there is no difference between the quality of the conventional hardener and the mixture based on post-consumer EPS to make hats based on the standards defined by the company; a subjective analysis supported by the judgment of experts validates the quality of the hats. A contour graph and response surface reflect different combinations of solute and solvent to formulate the glue for the doping of the hat, with the same hardness results. This allows the artisan to assess the formulation from an economical point of view, as well as with respect to the arrangement of materials. These results specifically propose the sustainable alternative of integrating waste from the post–consumer EPS chain into the artisanal hat value chain, and are replicable to other similar products.

In order to define a reasonable value of Apple’s stocks, a number of valuation models can be considered, including FCFF model, DDM, VC method, FCFE model and multiples valuation model. In the research, we use WACC and DCF calculation to evaluate the Apple company’s further value, and judging whether it is undervalued or overvalued based on historical data and market direction. As different models and data provide various results, they have different limitations and uses. For DCF, although some of the data used in its calculations are based on people's subjective analysis of the future, its valuation serves as a baseline for the target price, making its results relatively conservative and reasonable. Based on the results generated by valuation models, we think Apple still has a great potential to develop, and we advise customers to buy or hold the stock.

Abstract Background The COVID-19 pandemic, caused by the human coronavirus SARS- CoV-2, has led to millions of deaths across the globe. Not only is the SARS-CoV-2 virus highly infectious, it also mutates very easily. This creates additional challenges for development of robust therapeutic solutions. Along with modern system of healthcare, there is a definite need for exploring natural plant based antiviral compounds directed against the SARS CoV-2 virus. Objective The present observational study investigates the efficacy of an Ayurvedic polyherbal formulation of 19 ingredients, NOQ19, in the management of COVID-19. Methodology: A single arm, single centric, open label study design was adopted for this feasibility study. 161 RT-PCR positive COVID-19 patients were enrolled. The enrolled participants were provided the Ayurvedic intervention, 2 tablets of NOQ19, thrice daily along with the standard of care treatment. Follow up COVID-19 RT- PCR tests were conducted on Day 5, Day 10 and Day 14, or until the patient turned negative. The time required for testing negative on the RT-PCR test or becoming asymptomatic was noted. Results A subjective analysis demonstrated that 74% of patients turned RT-PCR negative within 5 days of taking NOQ19. Additionally, 98% of the subjects turned RT-PCR Negative on Day 10 after taking NOQ19 in addition to the standard of care treatment of Vitamin C, Zinc and antipyretic (as necessary). None of the participants reported any adverse or side effects to the medication. Conclusion NOQ19 Ayurvedic polyherbal formulation can be an effective and safe option for the symptomatic management of COVID-19.

Abstract Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a well-established imaging technology for high-resolution, cross-sectional imaging of biological tissues. Imaging processing and light attenuation coefficient estimation allows to further improve the OCT diagnostic capability. In this paper we use a commercial OCT system, Telesto II-1325LR from Thorlabs, and demonstrate its ability to differentiate normal and tumor mammary mouse glands with the OCT attenuation coefficient. Using several OCT images of normal and tumor mammary mouse glands (n=26), a statistical analysis was performed. The attenuation coefficient was calculated in depth, considering a slope of 0.5 mm. The normal glands present a median attenuation coefficient of 0.403 mm-1, comparatively to 0.561 mm-1 obtained for tumor mammary glands. This translates in an attenuation coefficient approximately 39 % higher for tumor mammary glands when compared to normal mammary glands. The OCT attenuation coefficient estimation eliminates the subjective analysis provided by direct visualization of the OCT images.
