Abstract Objective COVID-19 prevention and control demand a reduction in crowd gathering, which has a significant impact on traditional teaching and offline case-based learning (CBL). In order to mitigate the impact of the COVID-19 outbreak on clinical teaching, we aimed to compare the effects of an online CBL with traditional teaching model on learning outcomes of anesthesia residents. Methods Residents rotated in the Department of Anesthesiology in Beijing Tsinghua Changgung Hospital from January 2020 to February 2021 were included in Group W (n = 19), which implemented the W-CBL teaching model. The performance of residents was evaluated with theory test and 2 survey questionnaires (A and B) were conducted after 1 month of rotating. All 20 residents rotating in the Department of Anesthesiology at our hospital from January 2018 to December 2019 were included in Group C, which implemented the traditional teaching model. Their examination results were acquired through the teaching files and survey questionnaire (A) were administered through WeChat. Results During the 1-month rotation, a total of 10 cases were discussed in Group W. The average score for theory test was higher in Group W than that in Group C (84.57 ± 4.87 vs. 79.35 ± 3.70, P = 0.001). The satisfaction rate was also in favor of Group W regarding to clinical thinking, communication skills, learning interest and self-learning ability (P < 0.05). Conclusions Online CBL based on WeChat platform is an effective and acceptable teaching strategy in comparison to lecture-based learning (LBL) among residents embarking on clinical anesthesia courses.

The driving license administration service system is a special service provided by Nasional Police to people who want to make a SIM. This service system can be done online. The current application has made it a lot easier in the process of making up the SIM card production. However, there are some problems related to internal reports that must be reported because the service is not yet available in an existing application, so some recapitulation processes are still done conventionally and technical constraints on the server network. This study aims to create a service management information system application (SIMPEL SIM) that can provide solutions to internal reporting and server network technical constraints. The method used software development is waterflow. This application handles the printing of bank payment receipts automatically, granting the applicant's registration number automatically, printing the SIM application form on the form provided. Verification of the completeness of the file, validation of the score of the theory test, practice 1 and practice 2, validation of sim issuance and printing of temporary sim numbers if there is a technical problem in the existing network server. The use of the SIMPEL SIM application makes it easy to recapitulate internal reporting and can improve public services.

Purpose Considering the constraints on resources and the need for firms’ planning to avoid recession and underdevelopment, enhanced investment efficiency would promote the capital market attractiveness and increase the performance of capital market investment. Empowering these markets through investment efficiency requires to promote the flow of information disclosure to stakeholders to provide the greater coherence and integration of information, enhance equal decision-making capabilities and promote trust and confidence in the company. The present study aims to examine the impact of stakeholder relationship capability on investment efficiency through testing the mosaic theory. Design/methodology/approach In this study, two criteria (namely, the ratio of net fixed assets to total assets and investment level) were used to measure investment efficiency. Furthermore, meta-synthesis and Delphi analyses were adopted based on a five-point Likert scale to measure the development of stakeholder relationship capability. To collect the research data, the questionnaires were sent to 142 companies in 2019, of which 112 questionnaires were returned by the managers of the firms listed in Tehran Stock Exchange. To fit and test the research hypothesis, partial least squares analysis was used. Findings After confirming the fit of the model, the results revealed that the stakeholder relationship capability had a positive and significant effect on investment efficiency. Originality/value With regard to the mosaic theory, this finding confirms that the equity of information in reflecting news and knowledge among stakeholders can promote the role of the firm’s stakeholder relationship capability, thus enhancing the investment efficiency.

This chapter briefly discusses central key topics in the philosophy of science that the remainder of the book draws upon. It begins by considering the scientific method. ‘Induction’—the idea that we construct scientific theories just by generalizing from observations—is a very poor match to real science. ‘Falsification’—Popper’s idea that we create a theory, test against observation, and discard it if it fails the test—is much more realistic, but still too simple: data only falsifies data given auxiliary assumptions that can themselves be doubted. The issues are illustrated through an example from modern astrophysics: dark matter. The chapter then explores how we can resolve issues of underdetermination, where two theories give the same predictions. Finally, it introduces ‘scientific realism’, the view that our best theories tell us things about the world that go beyond what is directly observable.
