 C.   lazera was studied using some standard techniques employed in the study of vertebrate pituitary.   The pituitary gland is attached to the infundibular region of the brain by a cylindrical infundilbular stalk.   The gland is composed of two main divisions; the pars glandularis and the pars nervosa.   The former is subdivided into an anterior, middle and posterior glandular regions.   The anterior glandular region is composed mostly of clusters of acidophils which surround blood capillaries, giving the region a follicular appearance.   The middle region is composed of basophils, acidophils and chromophobes.   The distribution of the three types of cells has no definite pattern.   The basophils are characterized by possessing colloidal globules, and therefore such basophils are described as globular basophils.   The posterior region is formed mostly of dull acidophils, with few interspersed dull faint basophils.   The two types of cells are scattered singly or in groups arround the branches of the pars nervosa.   The pars nervosa, which is the continuation of the infundibular stalk, form a central core around which the three glandular regions of the pituitary gland are arranged.   The processes of the pars nervosa are elaborate, with a fanning root – like nature, in the posterior glandular region and scanty in both the anterior and middle glandular regions.   The pars nervosa appears as a fibrous tissue with scattered nuclei belonging to neuroglia cells.   It is characterized by the colloidal Herring materials, basophil and acidophilic glandular cells.   Infundilbular stalk, which link the floor of hypothalamus and the terminal zone of the anterior glandular region was found to be a thin lamina of nervious tissue with a layer of epindymal cell lining the third ventricle.   The middle glandular region was found to consist of three chromophils cells, only one type of acidophil was identified.   It took both OG and erythrosin.   The other two types were found to be basophilic and they were designated as type 2 and type 3.   Basophils type 3 were PAS, AF positive but AB negative.   The pars nervosa was found to be small, and contained more stainable neuro-secretory materials.

Cysts found in splenic stores, of parasitic or non-parasitic origin, are rare causes of recurrent abdominal pain, but with a significant increase in the number of diagnoses in recent years. This condition is caused by the derivation of the mesothelial cell lining of the spleen capsule, occurring in 0.5 - 2% of the world population. Clinically, patients tend to remain asymptomatic for years and usually have an incidental diagnosis by imaging exams or during the investigation of diffuse and recurrent abdominal pain, rarely found in females. The treatment of splenic cysts is performed through video laparoscopic splenic resection.

AbstractSulf1/Sulf2 genes are highly expressed during early fetal cardiovascular development but down-regulated during later stages correlating with a number of cell signalling pathways in a positive or a negative manner. Immunocytochemical analysis confirmed SULF1/SULF2 expression not only in endothelial cell lining of blood vessels but also in the developing cardiomyocytes but not in the adult cardiomyocytes despite persisting at reduced levels in the adult endothelial cells. The levels of both SULFs in adult ischemic human hearts and in murine hearts following coronary occlusion increased in endothelial lining of some regional blood vessels but with little or no detection in the cardiomyocytes. Unlike the normal adult heart, the levels of SULF1 and SULF2 were markedly increased in the adult canine right-atrial haemangiosarcoma correlating with increased TGFβ cell signalling. Cell signalling relationship to ischaemia was further confirmed by in vitro hypoxia of HMec1 endothelial cells demonstrating dynamic changes in not only vegf and its receptors but also sulfotransferases and Sulf1 & Sulf2 levels. In vitro hypoxia of HMec1 cells also confirmed earlier up-regulation of TGFβ cell signalling revealed by Smad2, Smad3, ALK5 and TGFβ1 changes and later down-regulation correlating with Sulf1 but not Sulf2 highlighting Sulf1/Sulf2 differences in endothelial cells under hypoxia.

Ninety percent of plasma fatty acids (FAs) are contained within lipoprotein-triglyceride, and lipoprotein lipase (LPL) is robustly expressed in the heart. Hence, LPL-mediated lipolysis of lipoproteins is suggested to be a key source of FAs for cardiac use. Lipoprotein clearance by LPL occurs at the apical surface of the endothelial cell lining of the coronary lumen. In the heart, the majority of LPL is produced in cardiomyocytes and subsequently is translocated to the apical luminal surface. Here, vascular LPL hydrolyzes lipoprotein-triglyceride to provide the heart with FAs for ATP generation. This article presents an overview of cardiac LPL, explains how the enzyme works, describes key molecules that regulate its activity and outlines how changes in LPL are brought about by physiological and pathological states such as fasting and diabetes, respectively.

The integrity of the intestinal epithelial cell lining is crucial for the normal intestinal function. As a rule, intestinal inflammation is associated with additional tissue hypoxia, leading to the loss of epithelial monolayer integrity. However, in the absence of visible damage to the epithelium, there still might be a risk of infection driven by changes in the intracellular transport of bacteria-containing vesicles. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of hypoxia on transcytosis using a human intestinal enterocyte model. We found that hypoxia enhances transcytosis of the model protein ricin 1.8-fold. The comparative transcriptome and proteome analyses revealed significant changes in the expression of genes involved in intracellular vesicle transport. Specifically, the expression of apoB (the regulator of lipid metabolism) was changed at both protein (6.5-fold) and mRNA (2.1-fold) levels. Further research is needed into the possible mechanism regulating gene expression in intestinal erythrocytes under hypoxic conditions.

In atherosclerosis patients, vascular endothelial dysfunction is commonly observed with damage of vascular endothelial glycocalyx, an extracellular matrix-bound to and encapsulating the endothelial cell lining the blood vessel wall. Unfavorable lifestyle; smoking and physical inactivity, also induces glycocalyx degradation. Moreover, the vascular endothelial glycocalyx is damaged by various unfavorable disease conditions like as dehydration, acute infectious disease, trauma, sepsis, ARDS, Kawasaki disease, preeclampsia, gestational diabetes mellitus, hypertension, diabetes, chronic kidney disease, atherosclerosis, stroke, dementia, microvascular angina, acute coronary syndrome, and heart failure. The vascular endothelial glycocalyx has been shown to be important not only as a physical cytoprotective barrier for vascular endothelial cells but also as a mechanism that regulates intracellular cell signaling. Therefore, vascular endothelial glycocalyx has great potential to explore new strategies for assessing the benefit conditions of our healthy vasculature.

Basal cell carcinoma metastases are rare. We report a case of an 83 year-old male with recurrent cutaneous infiltrative basal cell carcinoma on the right vertex with tumor aggregates of infiltrative basal cell carcinoma in the lymphatic vessels of the superficial dermis strongly suspected on pathology slide evaluation during Mohs micrographic surgery. D2-40 immunohistochemical stain allows the detection of lymphatic invasion by highlighting endothelial cells. Further histologic review and D2-40 stains performed on the paraffin-embedded sections did not reveal an endothelial cell lining in favor of lymphatic invasion. What was identified as lymphatic invasion was the result of a peculiar basal cell carcinoma stroma. Correct identification of basal cell carcinoma stroma as a mimicker of lymphatic invasion would prevent potentially invasive investigation as well as associated costs. This is of great importance as the prognostic and therapeutic implications can be of significant value for the patient.

Lymphatic cyst is a collection of lymphatic fluid with an epithelial lining which can either represent lymphatic malformations or may occur after trauma or operation. Idiopathic lymphatic cyst of the thigh in adulthood is extremely rare. We report a case of a 27-year-old Thai female presented with a rapidly growing mass over her right thigh. The magnetic resonance imaging scan demonstrated a well-defined, thin rim, enhancing simple cyst. The cyst disappeared for a few days after aspiration. Completed surgical resection was performed for definitive diagnosis and treatment. Immunohistochemical studies revealed the cell lining was positive for CD34, CD31, and D2-40 and negative for calretinin. To our best knowledge, idiopathic lymphatic cyst of the thigh in young adult has never been reported and should be kept in mind in the patient who presents with abnormal thigh mass.
