While the health-enhancing benefits of exercise and good nutrition have been well documented, the ability of health professionals to encourage healthier lifestyle behaviors among those they serve continues to prove challenging. Creating the conditions where healthier living can both occur and be sustained requires thinking beyond the traditional provision of services and prescriptions that occur in healthcare settings. Healthy Lifestyle Centers are emerging as a way of deploying lifestyle medicine practices. Turning these centers into cooperative businesses has the potential to make them more effective. Cooperative business principles are well established, and they enable individuals to become makers and producers of their own healthy lifestyles, providing a greater opportunity for sustained lifestyles changes. The purpose of this article is to further examine the role of engagement practices and coproduction as they relate to cooperative business models and to propose a framework for a Cooperative Healthy Lifestyle Center.

Following its outbreak in the Wuhan region of China, the spread of Corona Virus (COVID-19) across the world has threatened national and local authorities or policy makers and transport experts due to its effects on human mobility. This study investigated the transmissibility of COVID-19 among passengers in transit using public transport modes in Makurdi metropolis. Analytical simulation using stochastic search method called Genetic Algorithm (GA) technique was used to simulate the transmissibility of the infectious disease within enclosed spaces of transport modes based on layouts and capacities. The sum of arithmetic sequence was used as the objective function of individual arrivals in each mode, it was minimised to obtain optimum safe capacity. Capacities of public transport modes were subdivided into; Normal, Above Normal and Below Normal (50% of Normal). Findings of the experiments indicated that optimum safe capacity of minibuses, taxies, tricycles and motorcycles used in Makurdi metropolis were at 8, 3, 2 and 1 person respectively. This occurred at 50% capacity which agreed with findings of previous studies. An efficient and sustainable public transport policy framework was designed for policy makers and transport experts to help achieve safe travel and healthier living in Makurdi metropolis during the COVID-19 era. Keywords— COVID-19 transmission, Makurdi Metropolis, Modal Split, Mode capacity, Passenger Safety, Public Transport.

AbstractHealth environment is a key factor in public health. Since people’s health depends largely on their lifestyle, the built environment which supports a healthy living style is becoming more important. With the right urban planning decisions, it’s possible to encourage healthier living and save healthcare expenditures for the society. However, there is not yet a quantitative relationship established between urban planning decisions and the health status of the residents. With the abundance of data and computing resources, this research aims to explore this relationship with a machine learning method. The data source is from both the OpenStreetMap and American Center for Decease Control and Prevention (CDC). By modeling the Point of Interest data and the geographic distribution of health-related outcome, the research explores the key factors in urban planning that could influence the health status of the residents quantitatively. It informs how to create a built environment that supports health and opens up possibilities for other data-driven methods in this field.

<b><i>Introduction:</i></b> Obesity and overweight are important public health problems. Mindfulness can promote healthier living and dietary habits, which might support weight loss. This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between eating awareness and body mass index (BMI) and body composition in adults. <b><i>Methods:</i></b> This cross-sectional analytical study was conducted with 446 volunteers. The heights, weights, and waist circumferences of the participants were measured, and bioelectrical impedance analyses were performed. A sociodemographic information form prepared by the researchers and the Turkish version of the Mindful Eating Questionnaire (MEQ) were administered to the volunteers. <b><i>Results:</i></b> In this study, 31.2% (<i>n</i> = 139) of the participants were overweight and 46.9% (<i>n</i> = 209) were obese. There was no statistically significant relationship between gender and BMI. The total mean MEQ score was found to be 88.26 ± 13.3 (53–144). The awareness scores of women of normal weight were statistically significantly higher than those of women with obesity (<i>p</i> = 0.001). There was no difference between BMI categories and awareness scores among male participants. While participants with obesity had higher scores for eating disinhibition, their eating control, eating discipline, and interference scores were lower than those of participants with normal weight (<i>p</i> &#x3c; 0.001). A weak statistically significant correlation was found between the awareness subdimension of the scale and the ages, BMIs, waist circumferences, and body fat rates of the participants. <b><i>Conclusion:</i></b> It was observed that mindful eating was lower in women with overweight and obesity than that in women with normal weight. We believe that it is important to increase awareness of eating in order to protect against the diseases caused by obesity and for a healthy life.

PurposeThe aim of this paper is to distinguish pedagogies supporting critical health literacy development in adolescent populations. Specifically, for sun safety education in schools.Design/methodology/approachThe paper draws on an exploratory intrinsic case study design to qualitatively examine the learning conditions that Pre-Service Teachers' (PsTs) mobilise to advance Health Literary (HL) in learning activities.FindingsThis paper presents data that shows the different ways thirty Pre-Service Teachers (PsTs) in Western Australia conceptualise HL in sun safety education for Year 7 students (12–13 years old). Examination of three consecutive lesson plans categorised learning activities (n = 444) according to HL competencies. Data shows that the PsTs pedagogically advance HL but are constrained when conceptualising learning to support critical HL. Further examination of the lesson plans of the 11 PsTs who pedagogically advanced learning to support a critical level of health literacy, distinguished the learning conditions and pedagogies supporting critically health literate adolescents.Originality/valueBy distinguishing pedagogies to situate individual and social health within broader societal goals, the paper identifies teacher education institutions as key players enabling young people to socially advocate healthier living, particularly, regarding melanoma and non-melanoma incidence.

Over the last hundred years, life expectancy in developed countries has increased because of healthier living habits and the treatment of chronic pathologies causing premature aging. Aging is an inexorable, time-dependent, multifactorial process characterized by a series of progressive and irreversible physiological changes associated with loss of functional, psychological, and social capabilities. Numerous factors, such as oxidative stress, inflammation, and cellular senescence, and an irreversible geriatric syndrome known as frailty, contribute to human body deterioration in aging. The speed of aging may differ between individuals depending on the presence or absence of multiple factors (genetic and/or environment) and the subsequent misbalance of homeostasis, together with the increase of frailty, which also plays a key role in developing chronic diseases. In addition, pathological circumstances have been reported to precipitate or accelerate the aging process. This review investigated the mechanisms involved in the developing pathologies, particularly chronic kidney disease, associated with aging.

Background: Autoimmune disease prevalence is rising at an increasing rate. However, little research currently exists on pre-screenings for autoimmunity and early disease management. We propose wellness visits should include an autoimmune disease panel screening for autoantibodies at preclinical and clinical levels. Methods: A working population of individuals without formally diagnosed autoimmune disease underwent company-sponsored wellness visits. Wellness markers such as blood pressure and lipid measurements and an autoantibody panel were obtained during the visits. Participants were offered functional medicine information afterwards. Results: Seventy-eight participants completed the visits. One or more wellness marker “abnormalities” were seen in 97% (76/78) of participants. Each wellness marker’s frequency of abnormality ranged from 13–82% of the participants. Preclinical or clinical autoantibody levels were seen in 53% (41/78) of the “healthy” working population with no previous autoimmune disease diagnoses. Preclinical markers were seen in 21% (16/78)of participants and clinical markers were seen in 32% (25/78) of participants. At least one wellness screening abnormality was seen in 98% (40/41) of participants with positive autoantibody findings. At least 50% of participants with a specific wellness abnormality tested at the higher “clinically” significant autoantibody levels. Conclusion: Preliminary findings from this study suggest that the integration of an autoantibody panel in wellness visits may be beneficial. Individuals may also consider healthier living practices and proactive prevention of autoimmune disease pathogenesis through applications of functional medicine and therapeutic lifestyle change. Clinical marker findings in asymptomatic individuals raises a limitation in the usefulness of such a panel, and further research such as a placebo-controlled prospective cohort study with an intervention trial or serial testing of autoantibody prevalence is needed.

High population density in urban areas is a challenge in preventing the spread of Covid 19. High population density encourages the occurrence of crowds in public facilities, which has a great potential for the spread of the Covid 19 virus. People's awareness to live clean and healthy is an individual's role in realizing personal health, family and the environment. One of the healthy behaviors is the habit of washing hands with soap, which is an effort to prevent the spread of Covid 19. However, everyone's awareness is different, influenced by their socio-economic background. Education on clean and healthy living needs to be carried out continuously, therefore, ITATS Environmental Engineering Department, conducts community service activities in the form of education on clean and healthy living in Tanah Kali Kedinding Village, Kenjeran, Surabaya. Activities of this community service include assisstantship and facilities donation. The result shows that Covid 19 spreading was lowering after the event. The community awareness on cleaner and healthier living is improved.

The World Health Organization (WHO) suggests people to eat at least five portion of fruits and vegetables a day, but the level of consumption of this category is far from been reached. Considering that the majority of food purchases occurs in grocery context, increasingly in e-commerce channels, understanding how retailers could improve food choice, both in physical and digital stores, is paramount to healthier living. This paper aims to understand which are the most effective retail marketing’ levers in stimulating impulse buying in fruits and vegetables category, therefore in promoting healthier shopping behavior. Since fruit and vegetable is known for its healthy vocation and its role in differentiating and enhancing the perceived image of retailers, this category is the ideal place to host nutritional marketing initiatives. We used a quantitative survey method to explore shoppers’ behaviour in an online setting, focusing on fruit and vegetables’ category. Respondents were exposed to nine marketing stimuli, according to different communication contents (price versus non price). All the data was considered for linear regression analysis. Our results show that the pre-shopping preparation has an effect on purchasing behaviour, limiting its impulsiveness. Furthermore, price levers and communication levers influence the intention to buy impulse in the online channel, with the latter more effective than the other ones. Therefore, as this process takes place in the digital context, marketing efforts need to focus on dimensions that increase the propensity to make impulse purchases online: communicative and price stimuli.

Economic and environmental measures related to the formation of nature reserves as key elements of the ecological network of Ukraine are considered. It is shown that in conditions of prevailing private ownership of land, a significant role is played by the forced alienation of land plots promising for conservation, as well as the establishment of environmental restrictions in land use. At the same time, the needs of the economy in land resources should be balanced with the requirements of environmental protection and biodiversity conservation. The additional benefits of creating conservation areas for the local population, which are associated with the creation of healthier living conditions and improving the quality of life, preventing the degradation of natural resources and reducing their pollution, are emphasized. The essence of spatial organization of the conditions of conservation of biological diversity in Ukraine through the formation of land-use areas of nature reserve fund is determined. An approach to improving the ecological and economic bases of the formation of land use areas of nature reserve fund, in particular, in the ecological network in Ukraine is given.
