Abstract A viscosity model for shear thickening fluids (STFs) based on phenomenological theory is proposed. The model considers three characteristic regions of the typical material properties of STFs: a shear thinning region at low shear rates, followed by a sharp increase in viscosity above the critical shear rate, and subsequently a significant failure region at high shear rates. The typical S-shaped characteristic of the STF viscosity curve is represented using the logistic function, and suitable constraints are applied to satisfy the continuity of the viscosity model. Then, the Levenberg–Marquardt algorithm is introduced to fit the constitutive model parameters based on experimental data. Verification against experimental data shows that the model can predict the viscosity behavior of STF systems composed of different materials with different mass concentrations and temperatures. The proposed viscosity model provides a calculation basis for the engineering applications of STFs (e.g., in increasing impact resistance and reducing vibration).

A method for calculating a reinforced concrete frame under rheological deformation conditions is proposed, taking into account degradation damage as a result of corrosion during long-term operation, reflecting their real work under the combined action of a load and an aggressive environment based on the modern phenomenological theory of deformation of an elastic-creeping body. The possibility of considering the processes of long-term deformation of reinforced concrete in conditions of long-term exploitation is shown. Analytical dependencies and a calculated example are given for the considered service life.

Contemporary science, in recent decades, reflects intensely on the phenomenon of consciousness. This fact is due to the accelerated development of cognitive sciences, biological and physical sciences, neuroscience, which have achieved certain successes in researching the problem of mind-body, consciousness. However, what is strictly required is the issue of the possibility of a scientific theory of consciousness, which would apply a new research methodology. The most recent approaches in this direction substantiate the need for research from a phenomenological structural perspective, which explains consciousness as a phenomenon determined by the subquantum level. Structural-phenomenological theory holds that this level is a profound reality regulated by specific principles and laws that make consciousness possible.

In recent years there have been calls for scholars working within sport and physical culture to recognise the (increasing) confluence of nature and culture. Situated within an emerging body of new materialist research, such accounts have shown how various activities are polluted by, fused to, and assembled with non-human entities. However, more work is needed on the political possibilities afforded by non-human agency, and by extension, the implications that such flat ontological arrangements might raise for the management and governance of physical culture. Building on research conducted with mountain bike trail builders, this article seeks to explore what it means to know, to be, and to govern a human subject in the Anthropocene. Specifically, I draw on James Ash’s (2019) post-phenomenological theory of space and David Chandler’s (2018) notion of onto-political hacking to show how the playful, contingent, and transformative practices of the mountain bike assemblage confront the linear and calculated governance of the English countryside. In doing so, mountain bike trails are positioned as objects of hope that allow for a collective re-imagining of political democracy in a more-than-human landscape.

The article examines the phenomenon of traveling «beyond the corporeality» of the characters of Haruki Murakami's novel Kafka on the Beach. Special attention is paid to the bodily transformations of the characters, going beyond the limits of physicality, as signs of the loss of personal identity. The article also compares the «bodily journeys» of the main character of the novel with the passage of the labyrinth, which also symbolizes the rite of initiation. The relevance of the research is due to the need to fill in the existing gaps in modern literary criticism on the problems of bodily metamorphoses considered in the designated context, as well as on the study of the creative heritage of H. Murakami in general. The novelty of the research is seen in the fact that the novel by H. Murakami, chosen as the object of research, is analyzed through the prism of the phenomenological theory of corporeality by V. Podorogi, special attention is paid to the concept of «the body outside the norm». The work also reflects the ideas about the physicality and identity of J. Baudrillard, F. Nietzsche, M. Yampolsky et al. It is proved that in the novel the phenomenon of the hero's journey inside his own body is both a sign of the loss of personal identity and a way of acquiring this identity.

Unpacking the mechanistic insights into how externally applied electric fields affect the physicochemical properties of crystals represents a challenge of great importance for a plethora of natural phenomena, in addition to a broad array of industrial operations and technologies. As such, the key goals in such field effect studies centre around how thermodynamic and kinetic relaxation processes in crystals are affected, including charge carrier conduction and energy transfer processes, and this is a very recent area of fundamental scrutiny. Indeed, in recent years, there has been a steadily mounting number of reports of field-manipulated crystal-state phenomena. Taking as the background a range of natural phenomena, phenomenological theory, state-of-the-art experiments and technological observations, the present review examines the role of nonequilibrium molecular simulation in its scrutiny of intra-crystal phenomena from an atomistic viewpoint, in addition to providing a framework for a predictive molecular design philosophy by which to refine field crystal understanding.

Abstract Rough walls are often encountered in industrial heat transfer equipment. Even though it is well known that a rough wall affects velocity fields and thermal fields differently (and therefore also skin friction factors and Stanton or Nusselt numbers), predicting the effect of rough walls on turbulent heat transfer remains difficult. A relation between the scalar spectrum and the Stanton number is derived for channels with both smooth and rough walls. It is shown that the new relation agrees reasonably well with recent DNS experiments for wall roughness sizes of k + < 150 and when Pr = 0.7 − 1.0. Under these conditions, a thermal analogue of Moody’s diagram can be created using the newly developed relation.

Therefore, the research on fatigue failure of rubber products has important significance to improve their durability and safety. The research on fatigue failure of rubber has important significance to improve the durability and safety of rubber products. The fatigue failure mechanism of natural rubber was explained from the point of molecular motion theory and phenomenological theory. The application of test research methods in the study of rubber fatigue microstructure and the influence of environmental factors on the fatigue properties of natural rubber were studied, and the future development direction of natural rubber fatigue was also forecasted.

AbstractThe idea of the right to mobility has been fundamental to modern Western citizenship and is expressed in many legal and government documents. Although there is widespread acceptance regarding the importance of mobility in older adults, there have been few attempts to develop ethical and theoretical tools to portray mobility (in)equalities in old age. This paper develops a novel conceptualisation of kinetic values focusing on older adults whose ability to move has been restricted for internal and external reasons. Informed by the phenomenological theory of kinaesthesia, I suggest that kinetic values are related to four principal dimensions: self-motion, being-moved, co-motion, and forced movement. I assume that these dimensions can address the key dilemma of human dignity among older adults who suffer from losing their autonomy and agency through their mobility impairments and who are at risk of being confined to their homes. To concretise the formulation of kinetic values, I study movement as part of technological equipment and urban infrastructure to examine what kinds of kinetic values mobility services and assistive robots convey for older adults in smart urban environments. By bridging disciplines, the phenomenological approach provides a novel understanding of mobility and the interplay among assistive technologies, kinaesthesia, and urban technological infrastructure. The approach suggests that kinetic values should be interpreted more comprehensively so that kinaesthesia can become better identified as a positive life-promoting practice.
