Abstract When checking and cleaning whether there is carbon deposit in the cylinder of gasoline engine, it is often time-consuming and laborious, and the process is complicated. Once the disassembly and assembly is not in place, its service life will be affected. When cleaning with carburizing agent and cleaning agent, it is difficult to fully contact with the cylinder wall, so the cleaning effect is poor and it is easy to leave its chemical composition in the engine. In this paper, some common ways of engine cylinder cleaning are studied, and a device for detecting and cleaning carbon deposition in gasoline engine cylinder is designed. The purpose is to provide a new convenient, simple and practical method for detecting and cleaning carbon deposition in automobile engine cylinder in the current market.

The question of interaction of schemes of diagnostics of engines by methods of non-disassembled control is considered, the analysis of existing methods is executed, and the use of the complex approaches increasing reliability of work of engines is offered. Methods of non-detachable diagnostics with modeling of deregulation of engine systems during operation and diagnosing the initial stages of structural and functional malfunctions are analyzed. The analysis allowed to determine the direct diagnostic parameters that unambiguously characterize the state of the object and indirect, associated with direct functional dependencies, and identify the most effective, in terms of determining correlations - direct diagnostic methods, which include, for example, indication of the working process in the engine cylinder. A relatively simple scheme of measuring and determining signals from several diagnostic elements simultaneously is proposed, from which we can conclude that information from one measurement channel can comprehensively characterize the technical condition of several elements of engine mechanisms or systems: vibration method, acoustic method, gas chromatography methods, indirect indication by determining the stress in the studs of the cylinder head, assessing the level of wear of parts on the metal content in the engine oil, as well as diagnosing the parameters of the uneven speed of the crankshaft. Analysis of methods and techniques for diagnosing internal combustion engines led to the conclusion that the method of diagnosing the uneven speed of the engine crankshaft is a promising direction in the development of methods of non-demountable diagnostics of internal combustion engines. residual life and monitor the technical condition of the engine.

A fuel injection system in a diesel engine has different processes that affect the complete burning of the fuel in the combustion chamber. These include the primary and secondary breakups of liquid fuel droplets and evaporation. In the present paper, evaporation of two different diesel fuels has been modelled numerically. Evaporation of n-heptane and n-decane is governed by the conservation equations of mass, energy, momentum, and species transport. Results have been plotted by varying the droplet diameter and temperature. It was observed that droplet size, temperature of droplets, and ambient temperature have notable effect on the evaporation time of diesel fuel droplets in the engine cylinder.

The article presents the test stand and the test results of a vehicle with an SI engine, fueled by a blends of LPG and DME gaseous fuels. During the tests, a chassis dynamometer was used, which reproducibly reflected road conditions. The tests were carried out for various shares of DME in the mixture, thus determining the maximum possible share of this fuel. The measuring points have been extended with different engine loads and different rotational speeds. The analysis of the pressure inside the engine cylinder made it possible to compare the operation of the engine powered by mixtures of different proportions to the reference fuel - LPG.

The methane (CH4) burning interruption factor and the characteristic values characterizing the flame combustion state in the engine cylinder were defined. The logical mapping relationship between image feature values and combustion conditions in the framework of iconology was proposed. Results show that there are two periods of combustion instability and combustion stability during the combustion of dual fuel. The high temperature region with a cylinder temperature greater than 1800K is the largest at 17°CA after top dead center (TDC), accounting for 73.25% of the combustion chamber area. During the flame propagation, the radial flame velocity and the axial flame velocity are “unimodal” and “wavy,” respectively. During the combustion process, the CH4 burning interruption factor first increased and then decreased. The combustion duration in dual fuel mode is 21.25°CA, which is 15.5°CA shorter than the combustion duration in pure diesel mode.

Carburetors are one of the important components on motorcycles, through modification of replacing Standard Carburetor with Racing Carburetor is one of the ways to improve engine performance. There are several types and sizes of PE, namely PE 24, PE 28, PE 38. PE 28 carburetor is often used on racing motorbikes, both Drag bikes and Roodrace bikes, where this carburetor is able to produce maximum engine performance. By testing the maximum power using a standard carburetor found at 7000 rpm engine speed, which is 11.3 HP, while the maximum power testing using a PE 28 carburetor is found at 7000 rpm engine speed, which is 11.7 HP. For testing the maximum torque using a standard carburetor found at 6000 rpm engine speed, which is 11.7 N.m, while the maximum torque testing using a PE 28 carburetor is found at 7000 rpm engine speed, which is 11.8 N.m. The use of PE 28 carburetor on a 4 stroke motorcycle greatly affects the amount of fuel consumption, it is because the PE 28 carburetor is a racing carburetor that is very suitable for those who want top speed. In addition, the advantage of the PE 28 carburetor is that it is able to improve engine performance because the type of carburetor is different from the standard and there are changes in the dimensions of the venturi hole and intake manifold, so that it can fog up more air and fuel to be brought into the combustion chamber or into the engine cylinder.

This article presents theoretical studies of the vaporization of natural gas of an air-methane mixture in a diesel engine cylinder. These studies were conducted in order to find a rational volume of methane supplied to the cylinder of a diesel engine. Having carried out a thermal calculation of the working processes of the gas engine, we obtained the size of the gas droplet supplied to the engine cylinder, which should have a size of no more than 0.405 mm. Having evaluated the experimental studies conducted in this area, the dependence of the nozzle diameter of the nozzle and the diameter of the gas droplet was revealed, it was determined that with a pressure drop on the gas nozzle equal to 0.2 MPa, the diameter of the gas droplet practically coincides with the diameter of the nozzle. Based on this, the diameter of the nozzle of the gas nozzle sprayer is not more than 0.35...0.4 mm. The conclusion of this article is that it is possible to determine the optimal volume of gas supplied and assess the real picture of the processes taking place in the cylinder of a diesel engine only. Substantial growth in emissions, hike in fuel prices, and exhaustion of fossil fuels has given rise to the need for substitute fuels for diesel engines, which are renewable and demote the emission. Also, strict international emission standards force researchers to seek alternative fuels. Vegetable oils are promising alternative biodiesel for a diesel engine, amongst them, rice bran is underutilized, a non-edible source that doesn’t create any food security hurdle. The paper focused to investigate the performance, combustion, emission, and vibration characteristics of diesel engine fuelled with rice bran biodiesel and n- butanol additive (5% constant) at CR 17.5. The engine characteristics of seven biodiesel blends (B5n5, B10n5, B15n5, B20n5, B25n5, B30n5, and B40n5) were measured at various loads under constant speed and compared with diesel fuel. The performance characteristics were observed in moderate quantities as compared to diesel whereas the emissions were found reduced drastically than diesel fuel except for nitric oxides (NOx) emissions. The measured engine cylinder vibration for all blends indicates similar results as diesel fuel hence leads to smooth combustion. The investigation shows that blends from B20n5 to B30n5 have the potential to be used in a diesel engine without any modification.

The pursuit of increasing the efficiency of internal combustion engines is an ongoing engineering task that requires numerous research efforts. New concepts of injection or combustion systems require preliminary investigation work using research engines. These engines, usually single-cylinder, make it possible to isolate a single variable in a complex combustion mixture preparation process, thus enabling analysis of the changes being made. However, these engines are relatively expensive and their designs are offered by a limited number of manufacturers. The authors of this paper have successfully undertaken the engineering task of modifying an existing research engine cylinder head in such a way as to implement an electronically controlled variable valve timing system of the intake system. The process of reverse engineering, together with design assumptions that finally contributed to the construction of the assumed solution has been described in this paper.

The acoustic signal generated by mechanical motion contains the information of its motion state, but when the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is low, the accuracy of real-time monitoring mechanical motion state by the acoustic signal is low. This study proposes an adaptive noise reduction method based on the dislocation superposition method (DSM), which can realize the adaptive noise reduction and the extraction of fault a component from the automobile engine abnormal noise signal of low SNR. Firstly, the wavelet coefficients of engine abnormal noise signal are obtained by continuous wavelet transform (CWT), and the fault feature points of the abnormal noise signal in each period are extracted by setting hard threshold function, window function, and feature points extraction algorithm. Then, the signal segments containing fault components are obtained by using the position of feature points to extend the length of the fault component forward and backward, respectively, and Pearson’s correlation is calculated by traversal to determine the starting superposition point of each signal segment containing fault components. Finally, the signal segments of the odd group and even group are selected for superposition calculation. When the superposition stop condition is not satisfied, the number of superpositions increased until the stop condition is satisfied, and the superposition signal can be used as a fault component. The experimental results show that, compared with the improved DSM, this method has a good effect on the noise reduction and extraction of fault components of automobile engine cylinder knocking fault, and the effectiveness of this method is verified. This method is used to reduce the noise and extract the fault components of automobile engine cylinder missing fault and knock fault, and good results are obtained.
