Rosemary essential oil (Rosmarinus offininalis L) can be used in the prevention of Alzheimer's due to its chemical composition, especially terpenic compounds that act by its antioxidant action or by the inhibition of acetylcholinesterase (AChE), which delays the catabolic hydrolysis of acetylcholine in order to compensate the lack of it in the synaptic terminals. This work aimed to extract and determine the antioxidant activity of rosemary essential oil. First, the essential oil was extracted from the rosemary botanical material by hydrodistillation in a Clevenger distiller. The antioxidant capacity was determined in triplicate by the free radical method using the reagent 2,2-diphenyl-1-picryl hydrazyl (DPPH). The yield obtained from the extraction of rosemary essential oil was 0.42%. The result obtained for the antioxidant activity of rosemary essential oil was satisfactory, and the DPPH reduction capacity in 30 minutes was 87.21%±0.25. The results obtained indicate that rosemary essential oil can be used in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease, since it can act by inhibiting oxidative stress, the main cause for the development of neurodegenerative diseases. However, the composition of the essential oil should be considered, since environmental and cultivation factors can influence its antioxidant capacity.

The aim of our study was to determine the indications for expanding the scope of operations in patients with pelvic extraorgan local formations. Materials and methods. The results of surgical treatment of 7 patients with nonorgan tumors of the pelvic localization, who underwent resection on the main vessels in connection with their involvement in the tumor process, are presented. Results and discussion. A total of 7 interventions were performed on the iliac arteries — 2 resections with an end-to-end anastomosis and 5 prostheses (one case — the aorta resection with reconstruction with a bifurcation prosthesis). Patients with pelvic extraorgan tumors are a special cohort of patients, due to the presence of several organs in a narrow space, which inevitably causes them to fit snugly to the tumor. Locally advanced tumor process in extraorganic tumors involving the main vessels of the pelvis and adjacent organs is not a reason to refuse surgery, and despite the complications, repeated recurrences and previous operations, are well tolerated by patients. This is especially important due to the lack of a real alternative to surgical treatment of this group of patients. Conclusions. Surgical intervention in the treatment of pelvic inorganic tumors involving the main vessels is the only radical method of treatment. Invasion of the main arterial and venous vessels is not a contraindication to surgery in patients with pelvic tumors. Combined angioplastic interventions allow to achieve a long without recurrent period even after cytoreductive operations.

The concept of tolerant fuel is considered as applied to water-cooled power reactors. The concept is based on eliminating the steam-zirconium reaction. For this, two work areas, i.e., using the physical and the thermodynamic barriers, were considered. Physical barrier presupposes exclusion of contact between water and zirconium, and the thermodynamic barrier (the most radical method) envisages replacement of the alloy containing zirconium with other materials inert to water when exposed to high temperature in the reactor core (∼ 1200 °C). Consequences of the most devastating accidents at the nuclear power plants in the world were discussed: Three Mile Island, Chernobyl and Fukushima. The latest accident in Japan brought to the fore the concept of tolerant nuclear fuel, i.e., being resistant to accidents. Work orientation in creating the tolerant fuel is indicated. Main attention is paid to materials and technologies applied to tolerant fuel. General requirements to safety analysis of the reactor facility fuel system currently developed in the Russian Federation and abroad, as well as current safety criteria for fuel elements, under design-based accidents are presented. Procedure for calculating justification of the safety criteria fulfillment for fuel elements under design-basis accidents is briefly considered. Main characteristics of the new generation materials under development for reactor cores as applied to tolerant fuel are presented. Based on comparing the proposed materials as the tolerant fuel for the fuel element claddings, composite materials based on the heat-resistant SiC/SiC ceramic system could be recommended, and as far as fuel materials are concerned --- materials with increased density, uranium capacity and thermal conductivity values, i.e., nitride fuel and fuel made of uranium silicide

Abstract Agarwood grows wildly in the nature and its leaves may be utilized as raw materials for agarwood tea, especially from Aquilaria species. The study was conducted to determine the chemical compounds in the young and mature leaves of wild gaharu (Aquilaria malaccensis Lamk). Chemical compounds were detected using pyrolysis gas chromatography mass spectrometry (py-GCMS) while antioxidant capacity of the leaf extracts was assayed using 2,2-diphenyl-1-picryl-hydrazyl-hydrate (DPPH) free radical method. The results obtained a total of 30 chemical compounds in agarwood leaves extract with different composition between young and mature leaves. The agarwood leaves extracts displayed strong antioxidative capacity with a main compound namely octadecanoid acid or stearic acid.

Objective. To determine the volume of surgical intervention on vena cava inferior in renal cancer, complicated by invasion of tumoral thrombus into the vein wall. Materials and methods. Into the investigation were included 147 patients, suffering renal cancer, complicated by tumoral venous thrombosis, who were treated surgically in the Zakarpattya Regional Clinical Hospital named after Andriy Novak or in the Zakarpattya Antitumoral Centre in 2005 - 2020 yrs. The patients’ age varied from 27 to 79 yrs old, their average age have constituted 58 yrs old. There were 97 (66%) men and 50 (34%) women. The null level of venous spread of tumoral thrombus was diagnosed in 55 (37.4%), І – in 32 (21.8%), ІІ – in 30 (20.4%), ІІІ – in 22 (15.0%), and IV - in 8 (5.4%) patients. The tumor was localized in right kidney in 51 (34.7%) patients. Surgical treatment in all the patients was performed - nephrectomy and various interventions on the vein. Longitudinal resection of the vein was performed in 55 (37.4%), resection with suturing of alloflap - in 5 (3.4%), circular resection with prosthesis “end-to-end” - in 4 (2.7%) patients. In the tumoral thrombus localization, including a renal vein, the uxtaosteum resection was performed in 100% of the patients. Results. Average duration of the operation was 165 (102 - 292) min, average volume of the blood loss - 780 (240 - 2250) ml. Mild and moderate postoperative complications in accordance to classification of Clavien-Dindo (Degree I - II) was registered in 38 (21.8%), and the severe (Degree ІІІ - V) - in 6 (4.1%) patients. Surgical complications of Degree III or complications, which demanded urgent relaparotomy, were not observed. In early postoperative period 1 patient died. General postoperative lethality have constituted 0.7%. In all the patients a laminar blood flow was preserved. In no one patient the prosthesis thrombosis, recurrence of the prosthesis thrombus, recurrence of tumoral venous thrombus or pulmonary thromboembolism. Conclusion. Radical method of surgical treatment of renal cancer, complicated by tumoral thrombosis of vena cava inferior, must include nephrectomy, cavatomy, thrombectomy, various variants of resection and prosthesis of the vein. In the null level of the tumoral thrombus venous spread the performance of uxtaosteum resection of renal vein is obligatory.

The only radical method of treatment of malignant neoplasms of the stomach today is surgical, surgical intervention. The results of such an intervention are closely related to how timely and. it is radically produced. It is therefore clear that in relation to malignant tumors of the stomach, it is not important to recognize the disease in general, but to early recognition, in which radical intervention can give a satisfactory result.

The increase in the costs of storage and disposal of post-production residues has resulted in the search for new directions for their recycling, which is closely related to the necessity of protecting the natural environment and promoting a circular economy. Moreover, the apparent interest shown by the food market in raw materials with high antioxidant activity implies an increasing use of by-products. The objective of the study was to determine the effect of the type and concentration of the solvent on the efficiency of extracting polyphenols from distillery stillage as well as their antioxidant activity by using several solvents: methanol:water (70:30 v/v), methanol:water (100:0 v/v), ethanol:water (70:30 v/v) or ethanol:water (100:0 v/v). The DPPH radical method was used to determine the antioxidant activity of the obtained extracts. The normalised variable (NV) and statistical measure (MS) were determined, based on which the effectiveness of the solvents was evaluated. The highest polyphenolic content and the antioxidant activity were obtained by using ethanol:water (70:30 v/v) as a solvent in the extraction of polyphenolic compounds from distillery stillage.

<em><span lang="EN-US">Avocado (</span></em><span lang="EN-US">Persea americana</span><em><span lang="EN-US"> Mill.) is a plant widely found in tropical regions such as Indonesia. Currently, people only consume the avocado flesh and dispose of the seed. This study aimed to examine the antioxidant activity, isolate and identify the active antioxidant structure from avocado seed extracts. The trial was conducted from January to June 2021 at the Chemical Laboratory of Natural Substance, Research Center for Biotechnology, LIPI.  The avocado fruit used in this research was obtained from Cibitung Central Market, Bekasi. The solvents used in the extraction were n-hexane, ethyl acetate, 96% ethanol, and water with multilevel extraction. Antioxidant activity was tested using the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) free radical method. The structure of the active compound was determined using UV-Vis spectrophotometry, Fourier Transformation Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), and GCMS. The 96% ethanol extract had the highest antioxidant activity with EtOH.4.3.1 isolate as the most active antioxidant isolate with IC50 23,07±1,63 μg.ml-1. The identification results of isolate EtOH.4.3.1 of avocado seed extract with UV-Vis spectrophotometry, FTIR, and GCMS indicated 2-Ethylhexyl-4-methoxycinnamate acting as an antioxidant. Further analysis with Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectrometry of protons and carbon is required to determine the number and position of protons and carbon in the chemical structure.</span></em>
