This study aimed at comparing the efficiency of two viewing control strategies, total control versus partial control, in correcting the snatch technique in school-aged boys (10–12 years old). Thirty-nine participants, with 2 months of weightlifting training experience, were divided into three groups: total control, partial control, or a control group. The Kinovea version 0.8.15 software was used to measure the kinematic parameters of the snatch technique before (T0) and after six learning sessions (T1). Following the learning sessions, total control group showed greater improvements for all kinematic parameters compared with the partial control and control group (e.g., the horizontal displacement (i) in the first pull (Δ Dx2: 18.17 ± 26.75%, p < 0.01, d = 0.83), (ii) between the first and the second pulls (Δ DxV: 25.97 ± 18.02%, p < 0.001, d = 1.52) and from the most forward position to the catch position (Δ DxL: 19.98 ± 21.60%, p < 0.01, d = 1.36), while the partial group improved only on the Dx2 (Δ Dx2 = 21.53 ± 20.40%, p < 0.01, d = 0.86). The present results indicate that the intensive use of the interactive features (e.g. pause, play, forward, and backward) and the asked questions during the first learning phase were essential for the improvement of the snatch technique. These findings have potential practical implications for coaching and physical education teaching.

This paper aims to develop an optimal guidance law for exo-atmospheric interception, in which impact-angle constraint and acceleration limit are considered. Firstly, an optimal control problem with constraints on terminal miss and impact-angle is formulated, in which the control energy performance index is weighted by a power function of the time-to-go. The closed-loop guidance command, which is expressed as a linear combination of zero-effort miss distance and the zero-effort angle error, is derived using a traditional order reduction transformation. Then, an analytical solution to the maximal acceleration during the flight is obtained by analyzing the boundary points and critical points of the guidance command curve. It is found that the maximal acceleration is a function of the weighted gain in the performance index. Therefore, the maximal acceleration can be efficiently limited by using the variable weighted gain. Furthermore, the relationship between the total control energy and the weighted gain is studied. As a result, a systematic method is proposed for selecting the weighted gain so as to meet the constraint of the acceleration while the total control energy is minimal. Nonlinear simulations have been carried out to test the performance of the proposed method. The results show that this method performs well in intercepting the maneuvering target with a negligible miss distance and intercept angle error. And it can tolerate a stricter acceleration limit in comparison with the typical method.

Abstract This article examines scientific transnationalism as an art of engagement with, and avoidance of, the threats and promises of what was foreign to the nation. Portuguese racial anthropologists experienced a tension between remaining imperial-nationalistic in character, and internationalist in their activities simultaneously. They struggled to exclude foreigners from colonial field sites; they aimed at nativist authority based on total control of colonial data. Yet, they eagerly sought connections with foreign experts to capitalize provincial scientific authority within Portugal’s colonies. The essay conceptualizes this mode of transnationalism as also a kind of isolationism, an inward-oriented form of engaging with foreign sciences and scientists as ambivalently powerful and threatening strangers.

AbstractBovine trichomonosis is caused by Tritrichomonas foetus. Thirty-three US states have state rules on this disease and render it reportable due to potential huge economic losses to cattle industry. The various rules of different states generally mandate testing and culling T. foetus-positive bulls as well as prohibiting import of T. foetus-positive animals. Wyoming has enforced these rules for over 20 year beginning in 2000. From 2017 to 2019, 3 years in a row, not even one T. foetus-positive bull has been detected throughout the entire state among over ten thousand bulls tested annually. Wyoming is the first US state to achieve total control and eradication of bovine trichomonosis by testing and culling T. foetus-positive bulls.

We describe the use of a Total Control Introducer (TCI) in combination with video laryngoscopy (VL) to place a left-sided double-lumen endotracheal tube (DLT) in a patient with a history of difficult laryngoscopy undergoing video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS). VL was used to obtain visualisation of the glottis and a TCI articulating introducer was used to dynamically navigate the airway and access the trachea. A 39 French DLT was subsequently passed over the TCI shaft and into the trachea under indirect visualisation. The TCI shaft was removed and the DLT was gently guided into the left main bronchus. Successful endobronchial intubation was confirmed with capnography, auscultation and fibreoptic bronchoscopy. We propose that the combined use of VL and a TCI can facilitate placement of a DLT in a patient with a known difficult airway who may otherwise be limited to a bronchial blocker placement for lung isolation during VATS.

Significance Such a move was expected after Saied last month declared an indefinite extension to exceptional measures imposed in July, which effectively gave him total control over the state. Parliament remains suspended, while no new head of government has been appointed and key ministries are headed by ‘interim’ figures. Impacts The president’s reliance on an unreformed security sector to consolidate power will lead to growing authoritarianism. Citizens may welcome prosecutions of businessmen and politicians, but the opacity of the process risks alienating investors. Saied’s low prioritisation of securing a new IMF loan may force him into accepting support from Gulf states (with political conditions).

Early motor skills underpin the more complex and specialized movements required for physical activity. Therefore, the design of interventions that enhance higher levels of early motor skills may encourage subsequent participation in physical activity. To do so, it is necessary to determine the influence of certain factors (some of which appear very early) on early motor skills. The objective of this study was to examine the influence of some very early environmental variables (delivery mode, feeding type during the first 4 months of life) and some biological variables (sex and age in months) on preschool motor skills, considered both globally and specifically. The sample was composed by 43 preschool students aged 5–6 years. The participant's parents completed an ad hoc questionnaire, reporting on delivery mode, feeding type, sex, and age in months. The children's motor skills were assessed using observational methodology in the school setting, while the children participated in their regular motor skills sessions. A Nomothetic/Punctual/Multidimensional observational design was used. Results revealed that certain preschool motor skills were specifically influenced by delivery mode, feeding type, sex, and age. Children born by vaginal delivery showed higher scores than children born via C-section in throwing (p = 0.000; d = 0.63); total control of objects (p = 0.004; d = 0.97); total gross motor skills (p = 0.005; d = 0.95); and total motor skills (p = 0.002; d = 1.04). Children who were exclusively breastfed outperformed those who were formula-fed in throwing (p = 0.016; d = 0.75); visual-motor integration (p = 0.005; d = 0.94); total control of objects (p = 0.002; d = 1.02); total gross motor skills (p = 0.023; d = 0.82); and total motor skills (p = 0.042; d = 0.74). Boys outperformed girls in throwing (p = 0.041; d = 0.74) and total control of objects (p = 0.024; d = 0.63); while the opposite occurred in static balance (p = 0.000; d = 1.2); visual-motor coordination (p = 0.020; d = 0.79); and total fine motor skills (p = 0.032; d = 0.72). Older children (aged 69–74 months) obtained higher scores than younger ones (aged 63–68 months) in dynamic balance (p = 0.030; d = 0.66); visual-motor integration (p = 0.034; d = 0.63); and total balance (p = 0.013; d = 0.75). Implications for early childhood care and education are discussed since this is a critical period for motor skill development and learning.

Abstract Background The efficacy of olanzapine as an antiemetic agent in cancer chemotherapy has been demonstrated. However, few high-quality reports are available on the evaluation of olanzapine’s efficacy and safety at a low dose of 5 mg among patients treated with carboplatin regimens. Therefore, in this study, we investigated the efficacy and safety of 5 mg olanzapine for managing nausea and vomiting in cancer patients receiving carboplatin regimens and identified patient-related risk factors for carboplatin regimen-induced nausea and vomiting treated with 5 mg olanzapine. Methods Data were pooled for 140 patients from three multicenter, prospective, single-arm, open-label phase II studies evaluating the efficacy and safety of olanzapine for managing nausea and vomiting induced by carboplatin-based chemotherapy. Multivariable logistic regression analyses were performed to determine the patient-related risk factors. Results Regarding the endpoints of carboplatin regimen-induced nausea and vomiting control, the complete response, complete control, and total control rates during the overall study period were 87.9, 86.4, and 72.9%, respectively. No treatment-related adverse events of grade 3 or higher were observed. The multivariable logistic regression models revealed that only younger age was significantly associated with an increased risk of non-total control. Surprisingly, there was no significant difference in CINV control between the patients treated with or without neurokinin-1 receptor antagonist. Conclusions The findings suggest that antiemetic regimens containing low-dose (5 mg) olanzapine could be effective and safe for patients receiving carboplatin-based chemotherapy.

Who is God according to the author of the letter to the Ephesians? What does this letter communicate about the character of God? Which attributes of God are specifically in focus in Ephesians? The focus of this article is the meaning and relevance of these characterisations of God in the letter structure, in the argumentation, in the rhetoric of the author and in the socio-historical context of the author and readers. The method of interpretation includes word studies, the epistolographic structure, the argumentation, the socio-historical background and the persuasion strategies used in the letter. The author identifies and categorises all attributes of God in Ephesians within the structure of the letter and argumentation and shows how these contribute to the purpose of the letter. The author of Ephesians presents God as being in total control of the universe, willing to be mankind’s Father and to equip them with wisdom and strength and gifts and blessings and he exhorts them to trust this God and imitate Him in their behaviour.Contribution: Although the attributes of God have been discussed by various scholars, this article is an attempt to not only identify the attributes of God in the letter to the Ephesians, but also to discuss the meaning and relevance of these in this letter.
