As the world has globalized-involving changes in cultures, values, and popularities, people's values have been changing all the time. In recent years, it is undeniable that people have given importance to their "beauty" and "how people judge their looks," which results in the change in beauty standards. One major factor contributing to the change in people's attitudes toward self-satisfaction is "mass media." Nonetheless, there is a lack of evidence to support such a claim to depict between mass media and self-satisfaction. Therefore, this study aims to explore those relationships between the two subjects. A survey using 11 questionnaires for females and 12 questionnaires for males based on a 5-point Likert scale with 165 participants was carried out. The findings of this study showed that mass media influenced self-satisfaction. Furthermore, the result showed that mass media and self-satisfaction have a positive correlation. This paper also suggests the readers enhance a positive mindset on their body image to gain more self-worth. This information obtained from the survey also indicates that the readers need to get rid of their negative attitude on their body image or outer appearance in order to be able to feel worthy of self-love and give less importance to their inner beauty or mental health and focus on their appearance. Keywords: beauty standard, mass media, self-satisfaction, positive mindset and body image.

Tattoos add a perceived aesthetic value to the body of the wearer. In instances where tattoos are worn – by choice – to enhance the outer appearance of the wearer, they are a vivid expression of artistic freedom, individualism and even a mark of belonging. For the same reasons that their appearance becomes conspicuous, tattoo wearers are vulnerable to receive negative first impressions. Tattoos are broadly divided into three types: those that are of tribal origins, those that are linked with criminal communities, and those that are forcefully given to mark prisoners or given as punishment. In the main stream media, the tattoos shown are often worn by antagonists or characters of a criminal nature. Recognizable Asian tattoos range from Japanese Horimono to Borneo tribal tattoos. A well-known example of tribal tattoo are the ones worn by Borneo Ibans. This paper will explain the importance of semiotics studies by looking at the cultural value of a particular tribal tattoo. The bunga terung is an Iban tattoo that a man will get when he goes for bejalai, a journey comparable to a walkabout. The theory of semiotics and representation by Charles Sanders Peirce will cover the knowledge process towards understanding the bunga terung. This research will enable us to differentiate between a tattoo that represents a particular indigenous community and a tattoo that represents a criminal one. Keywords: Bunga Terung, Gang Tattoo, Tribal Tattoo, Cultural Identity, Iban Tattoo.

Abstract. Films in Indonesia have a long history, and are even now considered an era of national film revival, which is marked by the condition of films experiencing an ever-increasing number of production. Due to the lack of facilities available specifically for archipelago film archives in Indonesia, this background is the reason for the need to build a Museum and Archipelago Film Documentation Center located in Surabaya, where according to the Indonesian Film Agency the island of Java is the region that dominates the largest number of film viewers in Indonesia. The method used in this research is a qualitative method with descriptive research type by making observations, field studies and literature. The land chosen for the designer is located on Jalan Simpang Dukuh, Suarabaya City with an area of 0.76 hectares with a relatively flat site. The use of a symbolic theme with a representative concept was chosen so that the building being designed does not only pay attention to its function. In addition to attracting visitors with the use of symbols in the form of building design, it is hoped that it will be able to appear to show the philosophy and functions that are in it which are used as a means of education, research and entertainment just by looking at the outer appearance of a building. Keywords: Film, Museum, Symbolic.

William Forsythe questions the nature of dance and ways of thinking about choreography. Searching to bring ballet’s past into a new, and sometimes strange, present, he scrutinizes classically ordered systems. He initiates processes of deconstruction that enable the body to move into multiple kinespheres, linking his findings to improvisation strategies that change the bodily architecture. Thus distinctions blur between the dance’s outer appearance and the dancers’ inner awareness. In this chapter, Forsythe’s direction of the Ballett Frankfurt, and before that as a choreographer with the Stuttgart Ballet, is explored. The concept of the Forsythescape is introduced as a metaphor for a choreographic landscape that draws on different styles, identities, and social/cultural approaches. Focus turns to Artifact and Eidos:Telos, two long works of labyrinthine complexity. They change entrenched habits of looking at dance—and help to explain why the American Forsythe is renowned across the globe.

This paper explores the trend of stay-fit maternity in Taiwan and extends the feminist analysis of the yummy mummy under neoliberalism to a non-Western context. Drawing insight from Foucault’s critique of the theory of human capital and his emphasis on “psychic return,” it examines a process of continuous interaction between outer appearance and the inner world of these Taiwanese women during and after pregnancy. Thus, by using the perspective of the flux of psychic return in order to understand these women’s continuous aesthetic labour, I emphasize the importance of self-satisfaction as a determinant gain of the valorization of appearance in this process of maximizing self-appreciation and diminishing self-depreciation. I underline not only the importance of the functioning of an economy of affects which supports and overdetermines their beauty practices but also, in some circumstances, that the immaterial return in the quest for beauty takes priority over material earnings and the influences of social pressures. As well, my analysis finds complex and overlapping relations between self-satisfaction and neoliberal rationality such that self-appreciation constitutes the pleasure of embodying a recognized ideal of the maternal, the joy of overcoming undisciplined flesh, and the confidence-enhancement of being mistakenly seen as a young girl.
