A kinetic model for the olefins synthesis from dimethyl ether on zeolite HZSM‑5 based catalysts is developed. The model includes the reaction pathways for the synthesis of olefins from oxygenates in the olefinic and aromatic cycles according to modern concepts of the dual-cycle reaction mechanism. The kinetic parameters were determined for the time-stable hydrothermally treated catalysts of various activities Mg-HZSM-5/Al2O3, HZSM-5/Al2O3, and Zr-HZSM-5/Al2O3. The kinetic parameters determination and the solution of the ordinary differential equations system were carried out in the Python software environment. The preliminary estimation of the kinetic parameters was carried out using the Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm, and the parameters were refined using the genetic algorithm. It is shown that reactions activation energies for different catalysts are close, which indicates that the priority of the reaction paths on the studied catalysts is the same. Thus, the topology of the zeolite plays a leading role in the determination of the synthesis routes, rather than the nature of the modifying metal. The developed model fits the experimental data obtained in an isothermal reactor in the range of temperature 320–360 °C, specified contact time 0.1–3.6 h*gcat/gC with a relative error of less than 15%.

This research develops a dual-cycle ELV recycling and remanufacturing system to better understand and improve the efficiency of the ELV recycling and remanufacturing businesses. For the flawless operation of this system, the researchers employed evolutionary game theory to establish a game model between original vehicle manufacturers (OVMs) and third-party recyclers with the government involved. This research presents evolutionary stable strategies (ESS) that could promote an ELV recycling and remanufacturing system. Results show that OVMs’ expected profit difference between choosing and not choosing authorization is crucial in their ESS. The licensing fee plays a part of OVMs’ expected profit difference. Based on the results, optimal ESS could be achieved when the OVMs’ expected profit difference between choosing authorization and not choosing authorization and the third-party recyclers’ profit when paying the licensing fee are both positive. Then, the two groups’ involvement in dual-cycle ELV recycling and the remanufacturing system can be ensured. This research implicates the government to devise appropriate reward and punishment strategy to encourage OVMs and third-party recyclers to collaborate for efficient recycling and remanufacturing systems. Particularly, the government is suggested to impose strict restrictions on OVMs to carry ELV recycling and provide support to promote recycling quantity standards. Hence, the ELV recycling and remanufacturing system would be strengthened, thus improving waste management which is crucial for both environmental and resource efficiency.

The methanol-to-hydrocarbons (MTH) process is a very advantageous way to upgrade methanol to more valuable commodity chemicals such as light alkenes and gasoline. There is general agreement that, at steady state, the process operates via a dual cycle “hydrocarbon pool” mechanism. This mechanism defines a minimum number of reactants, intermediates, and products that must be present for the reaction to occur. In this paper, we calculate (by three independent methods) the volume required for a range of compounds that must be present in a working catalyst. These are compared to the available volume in a range of zeolites that have been used, or tested, for MTH. We show that this straightforward comparison provides a means to rationalize the product slate and the deactivation pathways in zeotype materials used for the MTH reaction.

An improved thermodynamic open Dual cycle is proposed to simulate the working of internal combustion engines. It covers both spark ignition and Diesel types through a sequential heat release. This study proposes a procedure that includes (i) the composition change caused by internal combustion, (ii) the temperature excursions, (iii) the combustion efficiency, (iv) heat and pressure losses, and (v) the intake valve timing, following well-established methodologies. The result leads to simple analytical expressions, valid for portable models, optimization studies, engine transformations, and teaching. The proposed simplified model also provides the working gas properties and the amount of trapped mass in the cylinder resulting from the exhaust and intake processes. This allows us to yield explicit equations for cycle work and efficiency, as well as exhaust temperature for turbocharging. The model covers Atkinson and Miller cycles as particular cases and can include irreversibilities in compression, expansion, intake, and exhaust. Results are consistent with the real influence of the fuel-air ratio, overcoming limitations of standard air cycles without the complex calculation of fuel-air cycles. It includes Exhaust Gas Recirculation, EGR, external irreversibilities, and contemporary high-efficiency and low-polluting technologies. Correlations for heat ratio γ are given, including renewable fuels.
