In the last couple of years, there has been an obvious increase in the number of school children proficient in English. One of the main reasons is the influence of the media, as well as students’ great exposure to video games. The aim of this study was to investigate the connection between video-game playing and English language proficiency based on age, gender and latest grade in English language. A questionnaire was completed by 71 middle and high school students answering a range of questions on the quantity and quality of the video game they play. The results showed that video games have a great impact on language learning, as well as that vocabulary and communication are areas of most benefit. Therefore, as a form of highly desirable entertainment, video games provide a positive and motivating atmosphere which is perfect for adopting a foreign language and may have positive impacts on obtaining and improving vocabulary.

Aluminum (Al), is the third most abundant element in the earth's crust but it is “excluded from biology” as development of all biota has taken place without it and there are no known biological functions linked to it. Currently anthropogenic activities have resulted in great exposure of this non-essential metal to human beings. The intake of Al has implications on human health and increases risk of various diseases. Major sources of Al include occupational exposure, food and water. Water is of greatest concern because Al is commonly bioavailable in water. The alarming situation in Pakistan about Al concentration in drinking water calls for an immediate need to design policies and legislations to ensure below average risk of this metal's effects. Limiting human exposure to Al is the only way to reduce the risk of developing neurodegenerative disorders like Alzheimer's disease (AD). In view of the extensive literature review, we propose development of public health surveillance programs for AI at the policy level.

Generally, key geological outcrops are inaccessible for classical mapping due to the hard-logistic conditions of their location in remote or dangerous areas like active volcanoes or fault zones. The UAV-based photogrammetry is a helpful technique to overcome such difficulties in site investigation. It allows a very high-detailed 3D model reconstruction of relevant outcrops, providing also the possibility to cover wider areas.

In this study, we tested the use of a “Selfie drone” aimed at outcrops reconstruction for 3D mapping of volcano-tectonic features. Two different sites in Santorini volcanic complex with different characteristics have been chosen: i) the Vlychada Beach, located in the southern part of the island, characterized by vertical cliffs that offer great exposure of the pumice layers from the well-known Late Bronze Age (LBA) (Minoan) eruption and ii) a historical volcanic crater located in the northern part of Nea Kameni island, related to the 1570 A.D. eruption, with a diameter of about 85 m, which is mostly inaccessible within its internal part and cannot be studied by classical field methods.

The “Selfie drone” which was used for the photo collection, is a 0.300-kg quadcopter equipped with a 12 Megapixel camera, EXIF information (Exchangeable Image File Format) and GPS coordinates. This drone has a flight time of approximately 16 minutes. A total of about 1900 photos has been collected, considering both sites, that have been reconstructed using photogrammetry techniques.

The resulting 3D models are characterized by a sub-centimetric texture resolution, allowing detailed mapping of the Minoan pumice layers, fractures, crater geometry, and related volcanic deposits, proving the usefulness of “Selfie drones” for geological – tectonic mapping.

Abstract Due to the economic crisis, the Brazilian construction companies faced the challenge of remaining competitive in the market, therefore they need to be restructured. Construction projects are intrinsically risky because it changes the environment both physically and socially. Given this complexity and the great exposure to risk, this research aims to evaluate the market risks in construction projects through a field research, analyzing the perception and judgment of professionals in the area. The data analysis was performed by a multivariate index based on the statistical technique Factor Analysis that can be ordered by risk factors by degree of importance. It was possible to confirm the degree of correlation between the subgroups of risk factors and to establish a ranking of the degree of their importance, and the first one considered more relevant was the risk of reducing the quality of the workforce. It was also identified the low maturity in risk management in organizations, even though in civil works a thorough risk analysis is required.

Metal(loid) contamination of food crops and soils resulting from mining activities has been a major concern due to the potential risk to humans. In this study, a total of 36 rice (home-grown and market rice), 38 vegetable, 10 drinking water, 4 river water, 18 soils and 30 urine samples were collected from an abandoned mining area or the local residents in China. Results showed that metal(loid) levels in some of the soil and drinking water samples exceeded the Chinese standard. Rice Cd concentration, rice Pb levels, and vegetable Pb levels exceeded the maximum permissible concentrations in 49%, 68%, and 42% of the samples, respectively. In gastric phases, the average Cd, Pb and As bioaccessibilities in rice were 72%, 70%, and 82%. In gastrointestinal phases, the average Cd, Pb and As bioaccessibilities in rice were 49%, 39%, and 94%. Vegetables (pak choi was selected) showed lower metal(loid) bioaccessibility than rice. The median concentrations of Cd, Pb and As in urine were 3.99, 4.82 and 64.8 µg L−1, respectivley. Rice had the highest contribution rates of Cd and Pb for daily intake, accounting for 114% and 210%, respectively. Vegetables contributed less, and very little contribution came from drinking water. Based on the bioaccessibility data, metal(loid) contamination around the mining area poses a great exposure risk to the local residents through consumption of food crops.

Introduction: The male population has a high probability of abandoning treatment, avoidance of health services, great exposure to violence, mainly due to abusive use of alcohol and other drugs, and high crime rates also associated with this problem. Objective: To characterize the sociodemographic and clinical profile of men admitted to a Psychiatric Detoxification Hospital Unit for alcohol and drug abuse. Method: It is a cross-sectional and retrospective study, with data collection in 2015, with a temporal cut in patients´ records between 2008 and 2014, reaching a sample of 1,152 medical records. The data collection instrument was composed of a structured form. The data were analyzed in a descriptive way. Results: Regarding the age, the age group between 21 and 50 years old had 30.73% between six and ten days hospitalized, and 11.98% had readmissions. The main diagnoses for this disorders were linked to the use of opiates, cannabinoids, sedatives and hypnotics. Conclusion: The profile of internal and assisted men was characterized such as adults of productive age, residents of the metropolitan area of the city, with long periods of hospitalization, generally with improved type discharge, low readmission and diagnoses of mental disorders related to the excessive use of alcohol and other drugs.

The jet propulsion system, either for subsonic or supersonic flow, the nozzle design is a critical area of choice where its overall performance gets an adverse change. In the trending technologies, configuring any nozzle, their challenges associated with the design increases accordingly to the cruise speed of the aircraft. The latter clamshell ejector nozzle design work came up with solution for the most problems but still had its own cons of creating recirculation zone in the inner surface of the clamshells. The former world which are in next stage to design an economically conditioned nozzle system itself invents challenges in area such as jet noise suppression, exit temperature, material selection, variable throat area and exit area. The present work summarized here excelled for the most cons encountered in the latter designs. The experimental investigation and the computational studies resulted that the introduction of C-D nozzle with by-pass system had a great exposure in increasing the Mach while in cruise. The air by-pass system in the exit area supplies the atmospheric air and also acts as a cooling system for the nozzle. It was observed that the temperature curve in the exit area was found low.
