This study examines the effectiveness of online learning platforms (Zoom and Moodle) and their effect on the academic performance of Covenant University, Ota, Nigeria, students studying practical-related courses during COVID-19. This study specifically seeks to determine students’ attitudes towards online learning platforms, investigate the effectiveness of these platforms on practical-related courses as well as ascertain the effect of Zoom and Moodle platforms on the students’ academic performance during the Pandemic. Data were gathered through a survey of 380 CU students through the purposive sampling technique to pick students offering practical related courses. Results show that due to the effectiveness of the platforms (Zoom and Moodle) and the positive communication between lecturers and students via these platforms, students would like to see online learning continually adopted after the COVID-19 pandemic. Findings further show that students had no difficulties using these platforms. Due to the sheer adaptability of the online learning platforms used during the pandemic, the usage of Zoom and Moodle had a favorable impact on student’s academic achievement in practical-related courses. The study concludes that distance learning is a future direction in teaching practical-related courses because of the flexible nature of the platforms. Thus, universities in this part of the world should invest more in online education platforms to maintain academic continuity, especially during times of emergency.

Sharing music with another person involves the potential for profound emotional connection, rhythmic synchronization and coordination, and the expression of shared social and political values (among other things). We explore whether experiences of shared musical activity are associated with perceptions of communication and positive outcomes in friendships and romantic relationships, using reports from one member of the dyad. Reports of musical activities in the relationship were associated with higher levels of commitment to the relationship, with those effects mediated by perceptions of interpersonal coordination and positive communication. Surprisingly, structured musical activities (e.g., actively playing music together) were associated with lower levels of commitment, both directly and via interpersonal coordination, positive communication, and shared social values. All findings persist when controlling for other forms of shared relationship activities, thus demonstrating effects that are unique to shared musical engagement. The findings are discussed in a framework of music’s potential relational power—the Shared Musical Activities in Relationships (SMAR) model.

This article discussed forms and meanings of phatic in the Ngaju Dayak language. The data was obtained by recording technique. The findings of this study indicated that in the Ngaju Dayak language of Central Kalimantan, phatic expressions are delivered verbally. In general, phatic expressions in the Ngaju Dayak are in particles and words. Based on interviews with natives, there are several phatic expressions in the Ngaju Dayak. Some of the phatices found were in the form of particles bah, beh, bei, boh, ceh, ces, cih, cuh, duh, has, hey, hi and ih. Fatices in the form of words are akayah (-lah), and akuy. The phatic meaning of the particle is to show (1) sense of wonder, (2) annoyance, (3) amazement, (4) anger, (5) disappointment, (6) disgust, (7) condescension, (8) welcome, (9) affirmation, and (10) rebuke. While the meaning of phatic in the form of words are to express (1) pain, (2) awe, (3) joy, and (4) affirmation. The research also showed that some phatics in the Ngaju Dayak language are in positive communication, some of them actually have the meaning of demeaning, rebuking, and feeling angry. Makna fatis berupa partikel menunjukkan (1) rasa heran, (2) rasa jengkel, (3) rasa takjub, (4) rasa geram, (5) rasa kecewa, (6) rasa jijik, (7) merendahkan, (8) mempersilakan, (9)  penegasan, dan (10) hardikan. Fatis berupa kata mengungkapkan (1) rasa sakit, (2) rasa kagum, (3) rasa gembira, dan (4) penegasan. This mixed method study explored whether and how familial mentor support may have influenced the parent-adolescent relationship, and whether the impact of familial mentor support on the parent-adolescent relationship may have differed across adolescents’ developmental stage. Findings from analyses of survey data from 106 Black adolescents indicated that familial mentor support may be equally beneficial for youths’ connectedness to parents across developmental stage. Interview data from a subset of 12 adolescents, their primary caregivers, and familial mentors were analyzed to better understand how familial mentors supported the parent-adolescent bond and whether the nature of mentor support differed between early and middle adolescents. Qualitative findings indicated that mentors supported the parent-adolescent relationship by acting as sounding boards; coaching positive communication strategies; and promoting understanding between youth and their parents. Additionally, findings indicated that familial mentors may be attuned to developmental changes experienced by their adolescent relatives.

Much of our time is spent communicating with other people, including family, friends, and teachers. When we talk with others, we are interested in understanding one another, and we can often sense when the communication is good. Scientists suggest that synchronization—a state in which things happen simultaneously—contributes to good communication. Research has found that synchronization in facial expressions, ways of speaking, body movements, pulse, breath, and even brain activity, are related to positive communication. In this article, we will describe the role of synchronization and discuss the possibility that when we feel we are “riding on the same wave” with the person we are talking to, we actually are on the same physical and mental wave—synchronized.

Abstract The Purposes of this research is to investigate the student’s collaboration competence in integrated STEAM learning approach. The method that is used in this research is pre-experimental design with type one shot case study. The subject that is included in this research is students of VIII grade at one of Junior High School in Depok. The Instrument in this research to take the data is using Co-Measure rubric based on Hero’s research. The rubric has four categories, there are: 1) Students Interaction- 2) Positive Communication- 3) Multi Inquiry- and 4) Interdisciplinary Approach. The data technique sampling is used observation during the activity. Data analysis in this research is used add the score average in each category, then describe it with the description Need Work, Acceptable, and Proficient. This research results are the collaboration competence category which has higher results is transdisciplinary approach and positive communications with proficient descriptions. Arts in STEAM has influence the collaboration, communication, cross disciplinary, and curiosity in learning. This study could be concluded that student’s collaboration competence has outperformed in STEAM project activity rather than in non-STEAM project activity.

Communication is an important component of many healthy sexual and romantic relationships. Positive communication strategies including expressing fondness and affection, exchanging compliments, and disclosing information about oneself with a partner are associated with relationship and sexual satisfaction, but less is known about its association to sexual desire. Most of the current literature has used traditional statistical analyses that assume errors are normally distributed and that associations between variables are linear. Our study aimed to examine the ways daily levels of four positive communication strategies are associated with relationship satisfaction, sexual satisfaction, and sexual desire among 246 mixed sex couples (N = 492). We also compared traditional hierarchical linear modeling with machine learning to compare results from the different data analytic techniques. Findings indicated that daily positive communication received from a partner was associated with all outcome variables of interest that day for both partners in the couple. All positive communication strategies predicted daily levels of desire, sexual satisfaction, and relationship satisfaction for the individual and each had unique associations with partner outcomes. Unique nonlinear interactions were found using machine learning. Findings have implications for practitioners and provide insight into the differences in findings between traditional analyses and machine learning.
