Abstract Research-validated clicker questions as instructional tools for formative assessment are relatively easy to implement and can provide effective scaffolding when developed and implemented in a sequence. We present findings from the implementation of a research-validated Clicker Question Sequence (CQS) on student understanding of the time-development of two-state quantum systems. This study was conducted in an advanced undergraduate quantum mechanics course for two consecutive years in virtual and in-person classes. The effectiveness of the CQS discussed here in both modes of instruction was determined by evaluating students’ performance after traditional lecture-based instruction and comparing it to their performance after engaging with the CQS.

Abstract The paper presents a study regarding the implementation of two representative grid synchronization methods, intended to be used in the control structure of a three phase switch mode voltage rectifier. The methods considered are the Synchronous Reference Frame Phase Locked Loop (SRF PLL) and the Double Synchronous Frame Phase Locked Loop (DSRF PLL), respectively. These synchronization methods have been compared on a real time development system type dSpace 1104 from the point of view of their performance in case of an unbalanced mains voltage system. Finally, the influence of the chosen grid synchronization method on the performance of a synchronous reference frame controlled three-phase switch mode voltage rectifier is studied by simulation, and better results are demonstrated to be provided by the use of the DSRF PLL.

Increasingly, robotic systems require a level of perception of the scenario to interact in real-time, but they also require specialized equipment such as sensors to reach high performance standards adequately. Therefore, it is essential to explore alternatives to reduce the costs for these systems. For example, a common problem attempted by intelligent robotic systems is path planning. This problem contains different subsystems such as perception, location, control, and planning, and demands a quick response time. Consequently, the design of the solutions is limited and requires specialized elements, increasing the cost and time development. Secondly, virtual reality is employed to train and evaluate algorithms, generating virtual data. For this reason, the virtual dataset can be connected with the authentic world through Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs), reducing time development and employing limited samples of the physical world. To describe the performance, metadata information details the properties of the agents in an environment. The metadata approach is tested with an augmented reality system and a micro aerial vehicle (MAV), where both systems are executed in an authentic environment and implemented in embedded devices. This development helps to guide alternatives to reduce resources and costs, but external factors limit these implementations, such as the illumination variation, because the system depends on only a conventional camera.

Time dependencies of the electrical resistance and electron density evolution in the discharge in a tube, with nitrogen at different pressures, with a diameter of 9.2mm and a length of 10cm were studied. A current pulse with an amplitude of 500A and duration of 10μs has created the discharge in the tube. Instantaneous electron densities are estimated from the interference pattern in Mach–Zehnder interferometer using femtosecond Ti: sapphire laser beam. Laboratory results are compared with results of computer modelling by MHD computer codes NPINCH and ZSTAR. Time development of the discharge resistance according to experiment is measured and evaluated. Minimum measurable value of the electron density in the experiment is determined as 2×1015cm−3.

Despite that Georgia has signed an Association Agreement with the European Union, by today its geological-mining legislation has not been synchronized with European mining codes. Georgian Law on Earth’s Interior is a calque of the obsolete Soviet law with minimum updates. At the same time, development of the private mining business is hampered by olden standards of exploration reporting and estimation and approval of reserves, which also are vestiges of olden Soviet standards. The article analyses in-depth the Russian and the Western reserve reporting codes and proves that development of mining industry in Georgia calls for immediate legislative approval of the Western standards and foundation of the Competent Persons’ institute. Such actions will not only promote development of private mining businesses but harness the Georgian mineral resource fund to the betterment of the country.

By reading the titles, abstracts, and keywords of LIS doctoral dissertations in China from 2011–2020 and conducting cluster analysis and network analysis of keywords, this study aims to understand the intelligence structure of LIS doctoral dissertations in China, as well as the disciplines and topics intersecting with LIS. The results indicated that Wuhan University had the highest number of doctoral dissertations among all the selected universities offering LIS doctoral education. Research fields mainly focus on online information behavior and information services. The findings could be because of the development of computer science and information technology in the past decade, which indicates that the research direction of LIS in China follows the trend of time development.

AbstractIn this work, we study the computational complexity of massive gravity theory via the “Complexity = Action” conjecture. Our system contains a particle moving on the boundary of the black hole spacetime. It is dual to inserting a fundamental string in the bulk background. Then this string would contribute a Nambu–Goto term, such that the total action is composed of the Einstein–Hilbert term, Nambu–Goto term and the boundary term. We shall investigate the time development of this system, and mainly discuss the features of the Nambu–Goto term affected by the graviton mass and the horizon curvature in different dimensions. Our study could contribute interesting properties of complexity.

With regard to the traditional MGM (1, m) model having jumping error in solving process, an MGM (1, m) direct prediction model (denoted as DMGM (1, m) model) is proposed and its solution method is put forward at first. Second, considering the inherent time development trend of system behavior sequence is ignored in the DMGM (1, m) model, the DMGM (1, m) model is optimized by introducing a time polynomial term, and the optimized model can be abbreviated as TPDMGM (1, m, φ ) model. Subsequently, it is theoretically proved that the TPDMGM (1, m, φ ) model can achieve mutual transformation with the traditional MGM (1, m) model and the DMGM (1, m) model by adjusting the parameter values. Finally, two case studies about predicting the deformation of foundation pit and Henan’s vehicle ownership have been carried out to validate the effectiveness of proposed models. Meanwhile, the MGM (1, m) model and Verhulst model are established for comparison. Results show that the modeling performance of four models from superior to inferior is ranked as TPDMGM (1, m, φ ) model, DMGM (1, m) model, MGM (1, m) model, and Verhulst model, which on the one hand testifies the correctness of defect analysis of the MGM (1, m) model and on the other hand verifies that the TPDMGM (1, m, φ ) model has advantages in predicting the system variables with mutual relation, mutual restriction, and time development trend characteristic.
