Teena Maguire and her child, Bethie, are brutally attacked and beaten by a mob of violent young men in a park at night. While the mother is gang raped and nearly killed, the daughter is both the witness and the victim of physical and psychological violence. Through its innovative second-person narration, Joyce Carol Oates’s novella Rape: A Love Story (2004) contributes to her sustained interest in family relationships, violence, crime and justice. However, rather than focusing on the victim of the rape, Oates writes a coming-of-age story that explores the daughter’s trauma, posttraumatic stress disorder and fight for survival, a struggle that coincides with the girl’s critical passage from childhood to adulthood. During the months after the assault, Bethie’s innocence is also repeatedly violated by the aggressors’ intrusion into her life and the hostility of the community in the town of Niagara Falls and its social institutions, such as police, school, media, healthcare and the judicial system. Unable to cling to girlhood or to find maternal protection, her forced witnessing of her mother’s gang rape compels Bethie to mature too early while experiencing her first love for a man.

This article argues that present day expansion of capital in Chile is based on the horrendous human rights violations that took place particularly after the 9/11/73 coup d’état. The coup in Chile demonstrates the owners of capital (national or international) have not and will not hesitate to use extreme violence to impose a model of development designed to meet capital needs: maximum profits. In the same manner that capital is indifferent to the consequences of the physical and psychological trauma it brings to humans, it is also indifferent to the environmental destruction it leaves in its path. This article illustrates how the system established by the dictatorship facilitates the exploitation of the labour force and the pillage of Chile's natural resources by national and multinational corporations, today. This also explains the increasing concentration of economic power and wealth in areas such as banking, insurance and the forest industry to name a few. In the case of the forest industry, the state subsidies to this sector, and the resistance of the Mapuche people, are noted. Most of the forest land is in Mapuche territory. The roots of the Mapuche struggle are the same to that of many indigenous peoples around the world: the defense of their territory and culture. As well, other social sectors in Chile are increasingly resisting capital attacks on their physical and social well being. For example, like the Mapuche, students, artisan fishermen are increasingly resisting capital. They are facing the same response from the current government.

The paper is devoted to the characterization and analysis of the content of the key positions of the European Court of Human Rights embodied in the judgment in Levchuk v. Ukraine and related to the protection of the right to a fair trial, the right to an effective remedy and the right to respect for private and family life in the context of the protection and restoration of the applicant`s violated rights in connection with the commission of domestic violence against her. Therefore the purpose of the paper is to establish the content of the ECtHR’s legal opinions and positions embodied in the judgment in Levchuk v. Ukraine in the light of combating domestic violence, protecting victims and the prospects of the Court’s impact on domestic violence prevention and protection in Ukraine. Author states that the ECtHR's findings as to the need for the national court to take into account the risks of future physical and psychological violence by the applicant's ex-husband and cohabitant in deciding on his eviction as a realization of a right to an effective remedy not only per se, but also in an expedited trial. These components suggest that the Court in this case established a positive obligation on the part of the State of Ukraine through its judicial and law enforcement system to ensure the effective protection of the applicant from domestic violence. It is argued that despite the application by the ECtHR in this case only individual measures in the form of payment of compensation to the applicant, the precedent nature of the judgment in Levchuk v. Ukraine and the Court’s legal findings in the context of combating domestic violence in our country can lead to gradual and thorough regulative and administrative changes, approaching the moment of ratification of the Istanbul Convention by Ukraine.

It is important to note that only one of the manifestations of cyberbullying has been reflected in public policy in the field of preventing and combating bullying in the field of education. Another category of offenses exacerbated during the pandemic is domestic violence. The vast majority of victims from thisviolence did not report their incidents of physical and / or sexual violence to law enforcement, thus being a major problem with impunity for domestic violence in ukrainiansociety. In our opinion, it is also appropriate to analyze the concepts of ‘cyberbullying’ and ‘domestic violence’ by comparing the common and distinctive features of these concepts, as the trend of increasing the level of these offenses suggests the similarity of the preconditions for their occurrence. Abstract: Conceptually, the existence of religion is actually an alternative for the creation of a reality without violence, especially against women. Islam introduces the concept of preventing violence against women which refers to substantive verses (ushuliyah), as well as a general purpose / basis of sharia (maqashid al-syariah). In the context of married life, there are some basic rules put forward by the Al Quran as a guarantee for the benefit of a wife to avoid physical and psychological violence in relation to fulfilling her rights as a woman. This paper seeks to analyze and find the idea of benefit outlined by sharia in its relevance to efforts to prevent violence in a broad sense as upholding the principles of justice, human rights, and protection of life as the embodiment of maqashid al sharia. In understanding several verses, it is often questioned that the interpretation tends to give priority to men and downplay metaphors. In fact, these verses do not mean to denigrate women, they only refer to social roles and roles based on gender (gender roles), even generally having a history of sabab al-nuzul, so they are very historical. Generally verses like this are intended to support and realize the general purpose (maqashid) of the essential verses (ushul) which are also the central theme of the Quran.
