Henan TV’s "Traditional Culture Series" has pushed the contemporary expression of Chinese traditional culture to a climax. Especially with the rejuvenation of domestic traditional culture, the dance "Luo Shen Water Fu" re-creates the traditional poetry "Luo Shen Fu" in five aspects: the creator's perspective, art form, expression technique, character image and creative power. The new expression of modern form has produced a strong contemporary traditional cultural effect. Through a case analysis of this successful act of traditional culture, the article analyzes the translation techniques of contemporary expressions of traditional culture, and provides useful enlightenment for stimulating the creative vitality of traditional culture and boosting the future trend of traditional Chinese culture.

In most countries around the world, the population is rapidly aging. A by-product of these demographic shifts is that older adults will likely occupy more positions of power and influence in our societies than ever before. Further, cultural differences might shape how these transitions unfold around the globe. Across two studies, we investigated whether business and political leaders differed in age across various cultures. Study 1 (N = 1,034) showed that business leaders were significantly older in Eastern (e.g., China, India, and Japan) cultures than Western (e.g., United States, Sweden, and United Kingdom) cultures, even while controlling for population structure (e.g., percentage of elderly in the society), gross domestic product (GDP), and wealth distribution across the population (GINI). Study 2 (N = 1,268) conceptually replicated these findings by showing that political leaders were once again older in Eastern vs. Western cultures. Furthermore, cultural tightness mediated the relationship between culture and older leadership. These findings highlight how cultural differences impact not only our preferences, but also important outcomes in consequential domains such as business and politics. Potential explanations for why cultural tightness may be related to differences in leader age across cultures are discussed. To build on these findings, future research should assess the potential causal mechanisms underlying the cultural effect on leader age, and explore the various practical implications of this effect.

Burial rites are very common among many Africa communities. In the African context, burials are not the end of life but rather the beginning of another life in the land of the ancestors. In spite of the importance of the African funeral rites, the missional role of the church in mourning and the burial of the dead in the African communities, the COVID-19 pandemic led protocols and restrictions placed a huge challenge on the African religious and cultural practices.Contribution: In the light of the above-named challenges, the article discusses the religious-cultural effect of the pandemic with special focus on the African liturgical and missiological challenges in the context of the COVID-19 restrictions on funerals and burial rites.

Tourism is defined as a sector that has the feature of continuing development and growth since its emergence In addition to being an important income generating sector for countries. The development of tourism and the increase of people's leisure time intensifies tourism. The intensive realization of tourism causes millions of people to interact every year. This interaction takes place between the tourist and the people in the tourist area. The intertwining of societies also reveals some effects. Effects of tourism on societies; It is divided into environmental, social, economic and socio-cultural impact. The aim of the study is on the socio-cultural effect of tourism. Tourism has many positive and negative socio-cultural effects on society, from traditions to lifestyle. Interacting with thousands of different tourist profiles every day, especially in touristic destinations that are intertwined with tourism, can cause the people in the region to be influenced by the culture of the tourists at a certain level. The intensity and lowness of the effects are related to the development level of the region. While socio-cultural effects are intense at the points where the difference between the society and the tourist is high, the effects are less common in the regions where the difference is less. As a result of this research conducted in Şirince village, which is connected to Selçuk district of İzmir, it is revealed to what extent and at which points local people are affected more or less by the socio-cultural effects of tourism.

Abstract In this paper, we analyze a large-scale corpus of Arab cartoons to measure the correspondence between grammatical gender in Arabic and personified gender in images. The results show that the effect is very strong for males (a near-perfect relationship between the two, grammatical and visual depiction), but the reverse is the case for females (the grammatical description is almost the opposite in perceived meaning of the graphical depiction). It can be a substantive cartoon effect. That is, there is more ambiguity in images depicting females due to some implicit cultural effect (i.e., males/gendered maleness dominates even in the text in ‘male-centric’ cultures). We look at the implications of this androcentric behavior for understanding the complex set of relationships linking language, thought, and culture. Such research will aid both gender studies and cognition scholarship based on multimodal stimuli.

This research aims to find out the cultural crisis among youths in tourism region. This study employed a qualitative research method with phenomenological approach. The result of research showed that the factors underlying the cultural crisis in Kuta society, particularly youths, are innovation or new invention in the society, dissatisfaction with the existing condition, openness to the change, and people’s poor consciousness of the preservation of cultures existing. In addition, it is also due to the cultural effect of tourist, the entry of globalization and modernization currents, government supporting more the organization of entertainment events leading to the fading traditions, and more sophisticated technology innovation and social media effect. Cultural crisis occurring in Kuta Village is inseparable from the effect of Kuta village as tourist destination. Such condition makes some of local cultures existing in Kuta changing. On the one hand, some original cultures of Kuta village are still maintained well and not mixed with or affected by external culture (e.g. various forms of art and customary rites). On the other hand, as a tourist destination to which the tourism lovers often come, either domestic or foreign, culture westernization occurs in this village. The westernization effect can be seen from the western-oriented life of tour guide, the youths’ fashion style, and tourist facilities resembling foreign lifestyle such cafes.

Keywords: Cultural Crisis, Youth, Tourism.

This paper enrolls in an enhancement of Africa’s cultural representation, long time falsely perceived. England has most of time undervalued, subject to nourish misconceptions about Africa. This, because the black continent has a range of traditions that could not be seen through western glasses. In the same line of thought, Africa’s perception of England is not far from unholiness. This situation leads to discriminative behaviours towards African students in England and English tourists in African countries. In a basket, mutual-acceptance between Africans and English is difficult, because each of them misapprehend other’s traditions and perceptions. This study illustrates cultural divergences between Africans and English. The emphasis here is on cultural mutual-acceptance. To reach this goal, I use New historicism, Africana critical theory, post colonialism and reader-response to explore, interpret and analyse, facts relating to cultural misapprehension in Heart of Darkness and The Raped Amulet.

Article visualizations:

Purpose The effect of culture, through the accounting values of conservatism and secrecy, on accounting judgments is an area of research extensively studied in developed countries. However, little research has focused on this issue in developing countries, specifically Arab countries. Thus, this study aims to fill this gap by investigating the impact of the combined effect of the culture/accounting dimensions on the interpretation of the probability expressions used in the international accounting standards/international financial reporting standards (IFRSs) in two North African/Arab countries: Tunisia and Egypt. Design/methodology/approach In the first place, this study determines Hofstede’s cultural index scores for Tunisia, ignored in his original model and updates those related to Egypt, which provides a more relevant understanding of the cultural effect. Then, the study relies on the Hofstede/Gray cultural accounting model to examine the extent to which the accounting values of conservatism and secrecy may affect the recognition of the increase and the decrease of income and the disclosure of this information in the financial statements by postgraduate accounting student in both countries. Findings The results provide evidence of the generalizability of Gray’s conservatism hypothesis in the North African/Arab countries (i.e. Tunisia and Egypt), at least in the context of income recognition. Moreover, the findings demonstrate that culture, through its influence on the accounting value of secrecy, affects the interpretation of probability expressions used in the IFRSs to establish disclosures. Research limitations/implications This study calls for more attention from the standard setters to provide further guidance related to the consistent and accurate numerical value that needs to be assigned to the probability expressions to reduce the ambiguity related to their interpretation. The international accounting standards board (IASB) should pay greater attention to the use of vague probability expressions in developing the IFRSs to promote the true comparability of financial reporting worldwide. Like with any research, this study implies certain limitations specifically related to the sample selection, a sample size, which may affect the generalizability of the results. Thus, future research may rely on a larger sample combining and cover other cultural areas. Practical implications The results of this study may give insights into the practical issues faced by the accounting practitioners and which are related to the interpretation and the application of the IFRS including probability expressions. This may trigger their attention toward this issue to reduce the occurrence of these expressions in the revised and newly released standards to guarantee homogeneous financial reporting practices across countries and enhance the IASB’s objective of international accounting harmonization. Originality/value This study might be the first one that investigates the issue of the IFRS interpretation in two North African and Arab countries: Tunisia and Egypt. It also provides an original investigation of the cultural effect on accounting judgments based on the actualized Hofstede’s cultural indexes, especially for Tunisia which is ignored in the original country classification.
