The results of the analysis of foreign and domestic approaches to the interpretation and understanding of quest technologies are presented. It is noted that in order to create the proper conditions for the formation of future police officers professional competence, motivational focus on positive personal changes and the desire for professional self-development, it is advisable to use the possibilities of innovative teaching technologies, in particular, trainings and quests. During such classes, participants have the opportunity to learn how to quickly make the right decisions within the limits of their professional competence, applying the obtained theoretical knowledge, as well as to master and consolidate the necessary skills. The educational quest is highlighted as a separate form of design technologies. The features of the developed professional-psychological police quest with elements of the training "Features of the district police officer’s activities" are revealed, its consistent stages are characterized: organizational and preparatory, implementation and final. It is noted that the basis of the police quest is the situational method, the content of which is aimed at mastering the algorithm of actions by the cadets associated with the implementation of the service tasks of the police. It has been revealed that the use of a professional-psychological police quest is an active form of group work and provides the use of set measures aimed at increasing the level of professional training of police officers, developing and changing the structure of interpersonal relations, educational and professional motivation, and contributes to the self-realization of the individual within the professional space. The authors emphasize the advisability of using a police quest, which contributes to the increase of professional competence level due to the increase of the study time amount allocated for practical work, the independent acquisition and use of new knowledge and skills in practice, making the right decisions within the framework of their professional competence, and well-coordinated teamwork.

The paper shows that students with a low level of neuroticism had a sufficient level of self-regulation and a high motivational focus on getting a profession. Students with a high level of neuroticism were not formed motivation to get a profession and a low level of self-regulation.

Students are the receiver and the teachers are the providers of information at a classroom. The exchange of information is conducted mainly through delivering lectures although there are several other ways to do that. Generally in a longer class duration (more than 1 hour), breaks are quite essential for the students as well as for the lecturer to get revitalized. This study aims at examining the impact of in-class breaks on revitalizing or energizing the students in order to focus on the lectures effectively. The investigation was conducted on 527 Bachelor and Master students of three universities in China and three universities in Bangladesh on a random sampling basis. Those students participated at two different classes: one with frequent short breaks and other one with two long breaks where they were being observed. The results indicate that frequent short breaks can revitalize the students more than fewer long breaks. Further, it was revealed that the Chinese students were more punctual and efficient in time management than the Bangladeshi students. The author hopes that this study will be inductive to the university lecturers as well as educational policymakers for putting more motivational focus for students in order to make the lectures enjoyable and effective.

With the increasing number of images generated every day, textual annotation of images for image mining becomes impractical and inefficient. Thus, computer vision based image retrieval has received considerable interest in recent years. One of the fundamental characteristics of any image representation of an object is its shape which plays a vital role to recognize the object at primitive level. Keeping this view as the primary motivational focus, we propose a shape descriptive frame work using a multilevel tree structured representation called Hierarchical Convex Polygonal Decomposition (HCPD). Such a frame work explores different degrees of convexity of an object’s contour-segments in the course of its construction. The convex and non-convex segments of an object’s contour are discovered at every level of the HCPD-tree generation by repetitive convex-polygonal approximation of contour segments. We have also presented a novel shape-string-encoding scheme for representing the HCPD-tree which allows us touse the popular concept of string-edit distance to compute shape similarity score between two objects. The proposed framework when deployed for similar shape retrieval task demonstrates reasonably good performance in comparison with other popular shape-retrieval algorithms.

Abstract Novice learners comprise the majority of language students in higher education, but very few decide to continue their foreign language education beyond the required credits. Educators must develop a deeper understanding of what motivates this group of students so they can design pedagogical practices that will help students shift from a checklist mindset to a lifelong commitment approach to language learning. This qualitative study examines the role that a motivational focus and future-self guides play in the language learning experience of novice language learners, taking a language class for the first time, from the USA, and the role that a grammar-based pedagogy has on the formation of those self-guides. Interviews with ten novice language learners showed that six students exhibited a strong promotion focus with an ideal L2 self available in their professional-self concept. Prevention-focused students with an available ought-to L2 self preferred classroom experiences centered around grammar topics while those with a promotional focus preferred culture-based lessons. This study makes recommendations on how language educators could maximize students’ level of engagement by knowing their students’ motivational focus.

This article considers secondary employment of workers as a forced measure that allows workers to adapt to changing working conditions and falling incomes. It is shown that secondary employment, in addition to additional income, provides an opportunity for an employee to acquire new business connections, gives the opportunity to master an adjacent profession, and has an additional motivational focus. Secondary employment must be accordingly formalized, therefore, the article contains possible forms of registration of employees: official compatibility with the corresponding entry in the workbook, as well as a contract for provision of paid services. The possible directions of secondary employment of workers are considered. Positive and negative features of secondary employment are distinguished, both from the position of the employee and from the position of the employer. Recommendations are given on rational individual organization of working time in the case of secondary employment. It is described that the important task of the employer is to search for and discuss opportunities for a more full-scale use of the employee in the interests of the company.

ABSTRACT In this study, we demonstrate that the art infusion effect, in which the presence of visual art causes a positive impact on consumers' perceptions of products and advertising messages, might have a moderation effect on regulatory fit and non-fit messages. We investigate the impact of visual art on advertisement evaluations in regulatory (non-) fit conditions. Regulatory focus theory suggests that consumers rely on their motivational focus (prevention vs. promotion) for their evaluations and decisions. Usually, consumers prefer products that fit with their personal motivational focus. In the present study, the results of three experiments indicate that using visual art with a promotion or prevention fit message is recommended, while non-art images increase message persuasiveness when non-fit messages are presented. Therefore, not all information compatible with the consumer's motivational focus are best evaluated. When non-art images are presented, non-fit messages might be more persuasive.

<p>Higgins (2005) developed a motivational theory that distinguishes between two foci: preventative and promotion. Individuals with a preventative focus are motivated to complete activities due to a necessity or expectation. However, those with a promotion focus find motivation from advancement, self-improvement, or social impact. Writers typically use Higgins’ theory on workplace teams and psychology, yet the theory has usefulness for determining training program effectiveness (Carter, 2011; Freeman, 2009; Gaither, 2009; Kohn, 2009; Richmond, 2009; Whiteford, 2009). However, there is a noticeable gap between this motivational theory and how training programs are developed, particularly to meet the needs of project managers and consultants.</p> <p> </p> <p>Richmond (2009) highlighted that training is essential to the development of skill and competencies in complex and critical career paths. Project managers and consultants, particularly those tied to government projects, require a complex set of abilities in order to effectively complete projects on time and within budget. Without proper training programs, these individuals are not able to perform at the highest level possible. To explore how a project manager or consultant’s motivation can affect the effectiveness of training programs, this research study outlines the applicability of adapting career-development training programs to the learner’s motivational focus.</p>
