The choice of methods for trapping animals can greatly affect the studies and their results, despite that there are relatively few studies on the matter. Thus, the purpose of this study is to compare two common methods of live trapping (Tomahawk traps and pitfall traps), their efficiency and ethical implications for trapping Virginia opossums (Didelphis virginiana). Traps were located in a paired design, the trapped animals were checked for sex, injuries caused by the trap and stress level, then marked and released in the same spot. At the same time, costs of both trap types were compared. Tomahawk traps were 60 % more efficient to trap opossums but the pitfall traps had better results in all the other categories: were more cost-effective, did not injure the animals as often and were less stressful. Neither type of trap presented bias in sex proportion or number of recaptured animals. In general, both types of traps resulted to be effective, the pitfall trap was the better option in almost all of the categories but has the disadvantage that in the infrequent event of two males being caught on in the same trap, they are likely to fight.

Introduction: Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic, disfiguring, and debilitating inflammatory skin condition accompanied by pain, malodorous discharge, scarring, and a scarce quality of life. Skin folds are the most frequently affected areas, while the face is rarely involved. Case Presentation: We herein report a case of a man in his 40s affected by a severe form of HS for 15 years. Physical examination showed massive, bridged scarring located on the cheeks, temporal area, chin, nuchae, and scalp. Discussion: Massive face scarring due to HS is an infrequent event and represents a further burden for patients affected by HS and a therapeutic challenge for clinicians due to the lack of codified guidelines. Novel therapies with lasers and combination therapies are emerging and may be beneficial for hypertrophic scarring in HS.

Background: Tubal Stump Ectopic is an infrequent event with critical obstetrical consequences. A case is illustrated from Northern Ireland in which an ectopic pregnancy was discovered in the tubal stump previously undergone salpingectomy. Case Facts: A 34-year-old woman (G2 E1) with a tubal stump ectopic of a previous cornual excision two years prior, presented to EPAU complaining of mild abdominal pain and 6 weeks amenorrhoea. She was clinically stable (β-hCG 1407 mIU/mL), while TVUS revealed no evidence of IUP or adnexal mass but fluid in the Pouch of Douglas. Laparoscopic salpingectomy was performed after a diagnosis of tubal stump ectopic. Inference: Women who has had a previously ectopic pregnancy are at a significantly greater probability of relapse. To correctly and quickly identify the implanted location, a TVUS should be conducted. Laparoscopic diagnostic salpingectomy should be performed through excision by diathermy to prevent the risk of EP in the tubal stump.

Prior research shows that economic downturns are associated with increases in mental illness. However, we know little about whose mental health is most negatively affected. Is it the young or old, men or women, employed or non-employed, rich or poor? Using an 18-year panel dataset of Australians, we contribute to this understanding by estimating the impact of changes in unemployment on mental health, separately by population subgroups. Our mental health measure captures psychological distress and emotional difficulties, which are often missed by infrequent event indicators such as suicides. We find that young women suffer most during economic downturns. Men and women of older ages are not significantly affected. The effects for young women are driven by those in insecure employment, and those from low socioeconomic backgrounds. Our results suggest that public health programs should emphasize the mental health of young women during economic downturns.

Abstract Background Meningiomas are the most common benign intracranial tumors, and commonly comprise high-vascularizing but slow-growing tumors. On the other hand, meningiomas arising from the ventricular system are of rare occurrence, and spontaneous hemorrhage is an infrequent event. Case presentation We describe here the rare clinical manifestations of a 28-year-old female with acute intracranial hemorrhage located in the trigone of the lateral ventricle who was initially thought to have suffered an acute cerebrovascular accident, but was subsequently confirmed to have a benign intraventricular meningioma. To clarify the clinical features of such a rare course of meningioma, we also present a short literature review of acute intracranial hemorrhage caused by intraventricular meningioma. Conclusions Ventricular meningioma presenting with hemorrhage such as acute stroke is a rare event, but recognition of such a pathogenesis is important. Although further accumulation of clinical data is needed, we suggest that early surgery should be undertaken in patients with lateral ventricular meningioma, even if it is not so large or asymptomatic.

Schwannoma, otherwise known as neurilemmoma, is a benign tumor that originates from Schwann cells. Ancient Schwannoma is a long-standing Schwannoma with degenerative and xanthomatous changes. The Head and neck region is one of the most common sites for nerve sheath tumors but Involvement of the jaw is a considerably infrequent event. We report a rare case of intraosseous ancient Schwannoma of the mandible in a 24-year-old male patient which was initially misdiagnosed with carcinoma. The clinical features, radiographic findings, and treatment plan are discussed. Furthermore, a thorough literature review demonstrated nine published cases of intra-osseous ancient Schwannoma with their summarized features. Recognition of various histopathologic features of ancient Schwannoma is essential to prevent over-treatment.

Uterine rupture is an infrequent event, but of immeasurable seriousness and most of the time tragic. It is usually accompanied by catastrophic complications, both for the mother and the fetus, such as hemorrhagic shock, the need for peripartum hysterectomy, hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy, permanent brain injury and even the death of both. Keywords: Pregnancy, Uterine rupture, Complications, Fetal hypoxia, Cesarean section.

Abstract The safety of adnexal detorsion in pregnant women is debatable as the hypercoagulable state during pregnancy intensifies the risk of thromboembolism. The diagnosis and treatment is challenging because its rarity and complexity due to the foetal health. Here we presented a rare case of venous thromboembolism (VTE) after ovarian detorsion during early pregnancy and conducted a review of the literature. VTE after ovarian torsion-detorsion in pregnancy is an infrequent event and is more likely to occur in the first and second trimester. The diagnosis depends mainly on the clinical manifestation, D-dimer level and imaging tests such as compression ultrasonography and computed tomography pulmonary angiogram. Low-molecular-weight heparin remains the drug of choice for both prophylactic measurement and therapeutic strategy. With prompt diagnosis and immediate treatment, VTE after ovarian torsion-detorsion is usually uneventful.

Introduction: In-hospital cardiac arrest (CA) is a rare but lifethreatening event. However, the epidemiology of this event in intensive care units (ICU) is not clear. Objective: To determine the clinical characteristics of CA in adult patients hospitalized in several ICU of the Metropolitan Area of the Aburrá Valley, Colombia, over a period of 1 year. Methods: Observational study for a limited period of 1 year for adult patients with CA in the ICU of the hospitals of the Metropolitan Area of the Aburrá Valley, Colombia: San Vicente Foundation University Hospital, IPS University, and Manuel Uribe Ángel Hospital. Results: Of 3710 eligible patientswhowere treated in 91 beds, 646 CA events occurred during this period, of which 151 were candidates for resuscitation maneuvers. The overall incidence of CA in the ICU was 17.1%, without differences between the 3 hospitals included and the incidence of resuscitable CA was 39.9 cases per 1000 admissions to the ICU. The most common CA rhythm was asystole (54.3%) and the overall survival at hospital discharge was 3.3%. Conclusion: In the analyzed ICU, CA was an infrequent event, but it presents a high mortality at discharge from the ICU and hospital. However, the few patients who survive have a good neurological prognosis.
