We provide data and code that successfully reproduces nearly all crosssectional stock return predictors. Our 319 characteristics draw from previous meta-studies, but we differ by comparing our t-stats to the original papers' results. For the 161 characteristics that were clearly significant in the original papers, 98% of our long-short portfolios find t-stats above 1.96. For the 44 characteristics that had mixed evidence, our reproductions find t-stats of 2 on average. A regression of reproduced t-stats on original longshort t-stats finds a slope of 0.90 and an R2 of 83%. Mean returns aremonotonic in predictive signals at the characteristic level. The remaining 114 characteristics were insignificant in the original papers or are modifications of the originals created byHou, Xue, and Zhang (2020). These remaining characteristics are almost always significant if the original characteristic was also significant.

Abstract: The old town of Semarang is one of the most historical places in Semarang city, Indonesia, and in the 19th century, it was considered as a major business center. Currently, intending to revitalize this old town as the center for economy, the government has made it a central socio-cultural economic area for tourism development. This study aims to identify the potential economic spots in this old town to support its sustainability. The methodology used was cultural mapping with the geographic information system (ArcGIS) and direct observation in the old town. The results show that the core economic area is located on the main road. Meanwhile, the secondary economic area is situated behind the main roads. Both are selected because the original characteristic buildings which attract visitors. Therefore, adaptive reuse in an iconic building is one of the keys to economic sustainability in this old town.

Abstract A common practice in the finance literature is to create characteristic portfolios by sorting on characteristics associated with average returns. We show that the resultant portfolios are likely to capture not only the priced risk associated with the characteristic but also unpriced risk. We develop a procedure to remove this unpriced risk using covariance information estimated from past returns. We apply our methodology to the five Fama-French characteristic portfolios. The squared Sharpe ratio of the optimal combination of the resultant characteristic-efficient portfolios is 2.13, compared with 1.17 for the original characteristic portfolios.

Sasando is a stringed musical instrument from Rote Island, East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. Based on the resulting tones, this instrument consists of two types namely gong sasando that produces pentatonic tones and violin sasando that produces diatonic tones. Based on these two kinds of sasando the electric sasando has been created with the consequence that some of original characteristic of accoustic sasando had been eliminated. Up to this point, a question is raised, why the electric sasando was created and how is its history? To analyze this problem I use the popular culture studies to indicate that the creation of electric sasando is closely linked with consumer demand, that influenced by popular culture. The datas are obtained through direct observation and by interviewing the informans. Result sows that the creation of electric sasando is influenced by consumer demand who live in popular and mass culture.

AbstractThe transformation of the original characteristic equation of the multivelocity linear transport theory was carried out by expanding the scattering function for the problem to be solved as a spectral integral over a complete set of eigenfunctions for the previously solved transport problem. The obtained equation represents a singular integral equation containing a spectral integral over the spectrum of the solved problem, whose kernel depends on the difference between the scattering of the problem to be solved and that of the already solved problem. We consider also the examples illustrating the validity of such a transformation. M. Kanal and J. Davies made a similar transformation of the characteristic equation of the one-velocity transport theory.

Three different methodologies for the generation of spectrum-compatible records are evaluated: wavelet-based modification of seed records, seed record adjustment based on the continuous wavelet transform, and synthetic record generation in the frequency domain. It was found that the three methodologies are capable of generating compatible records with an acceptable level of match. However, the records generated using the frequency domain approach exhibit unrealistic strong motion characteristics and a tendency to induce less inelastic demand in the structures. In the case of methodologies based on modification of actual earthquake records, it was found that when the seed records are selected based on their initial compatibility with the target spectrum, the resultant compatible records not only better retain the original characteristic of the records but the variability in the structural response is reduced.

In this paper, a simulation model of the electrical transmission system with hydraulic coupler is established based on the analysis of the mechanical characteristics of the motor, the original characteristic curves of the hydraulic coupler and the torque equations of the pump wheel and the turbine. The starting and impact process of the system are simulated and the results reveal the mechanism of the characteristics of the starting process of the system and the isolation effect of the torsional vibration of the hydraulic coupler.

In tradition, one underactuated robotic finger with two or three joints always utilizes only one actuator for self-adaptive grasp, which results in quite weak grasping force because there is only one motor and the motor is so small in size so that it can be embedded into the phalange of the robot finger or the palm of the robot hand. Aiming to overcome the weakness, this paper proposed a novel robotic finger with redundant driving, called RD finger, which can produce sufficient grasping force through increasing a redundant motor and keep original characteristic of self-adaptive grasp. A special single direction transmission mechanism is designed in the finger to make two motors seem like one motor and prevent interference between the first motor and the second motor. The grasping process of the RD finger is close to traditional underactuated finger but there is up to double grasping force. One kind of the RD finger is designed in detail with coupling and self-adaptive grasping mode, which is composed of two motors, bevel gears, a pulley-belt transmission, a single direction transmission and a spring. In addition, the RD finger is compact, easy to control, low in energy consumption, is able to provide wide range of grasping force, and is therefore suitable for humanoid hands.

To obtain the original characteristic of torque converter automatically and efficiently, a test automation system of torque converter is set up based on electric power cycling technology, and a test automation software is programmed by Labview language based on serial communication and technology. This test automation system realizes the load electric power recovery, test data acquisition and processing, the torque converter original characteristic curve generation, matching calculation with the engine, saving the test data and curve pictures, and the formal report generation automatically. The high efficiency and convenience of the test system are illustrated by a practical application.

Objective: To evaluate the growth of olfactory ensheathing cells (OECs) on the silk fibroin (SF) nanofibers scaffold. Methods: The purified OECs were cultured with poly-L-lysine (control group) and 1200 nm SF nanofibers (experimental group). The morphological features and growth characteristics of which were analyzed by phase contrast microscopy. Nerve growth factor receptor (NGFR) p75 were applied to identify OECs by immunostaining. SEM was used to observe the adherence and spreading of OECs on different substrates. MTT assay was performed to evaluate the proliferation activity of OECs both on the control and experimental scaffolds. Results: The isolated OECs reached confluence after 4-5 days of culture, which were stained for antibody NGFRp75(+). The morphology of OECs on the 1200 nm SF nanofibers was similar to that on the control group. The SEM clearly revealed the close interaction between the OECs and the nanofbers. The OECs on SF nanofibers still maintain its original characteristic phenotypes. The MTT showed that the most obvious proliferation was reached over 10 days. The differences of OD values between 1200 nm SF and PLL were significant at day 5, 7 (p < 0.05). However, there was no significant difference at day 10. Conclusion: SF nanofibers scaffold could support the growth of OECs, and may be a promising tissue-engineered scaffold for the repair of SCI.
