This paper is aimed to investigate the syntactic structure of deaf students of Brawijaya Universirty. Syntactic structure which focuses on this discussion is the ability to recognize the sentence structure produced by deaf students. This study basically focuses on the language produced by deaf students of Brawijaya University in form of narrative writing. The narrative writing is written in Indonesian language. I chose Indonesian language as the language recourse, because the primary language of deaf students is Indonesian.This study uses descriptive qualitative research because this research basically aimed at describing the data in the form written text. The participant of this research is five deaf students who are classified into mild and moderate hearing loss. In term of analyzing the data, we concern on the three aspects of sentence structure. Those are: types of sentence, the presence of Subject and Verb in a sentence and the presence of Object for transitive verb.The finding indicates that the deaf students of Brawijaya University are able to write both simple sentences and compound sentence. They are also capable to write transitive verb which is followed by the object well. Yet, they are less in writing the passive voice form. Moreover, the data shows that different time durations of writing create a different number of words produced by them. Different deaf classification can provide different significance to a number of sentences produced by them.

This study discussed the identity of Dalia Mogahed reflected through speech in an event called TED Talks. It is a big program have been featured great people around the world including Dalia Mogahed from various backgrounds to spread ideas. Her 2016 TED Talks entitled "What it's Like to be Muslim in America" was named one of the top TED Talks that year. This research employed a descriptive qualitative method as a research design since the purpose of the study is to provides a deep analysis of the data. The data collected through the transcription which is provided on the TED Talks official website. The finding revealed that Dalia Mogahed projected her social identity more dominant than role identity. There was no indication of the utterances that proved the characteristics of her personal identity. Therefore, the fluidity of identity was also shared by Mogahed in that situation to convince that identity was not fixed. It is highly recommended for further researchers who are interested in investigating the personal identity projection to follow up the findings of this research by concerning on finding someone’s personal identity in term of speech performance.

This study aims to analyze the type of stuttering found in a stand-up comedian's speech when speaking offstage. It used a descriptive qualitative method. The theoretical concept used is from Carrol (1986) on the types of language disorders and it adapted the theoretical framework of Handoko (2014) and Saragih (2018) to analyze the types and the occurrence of stuttering language disorder. Based on the results of the analysis, there are two kinds of expressive language disorders found in namely fluency disorder and voice disorder. Fluency disorder occurs in the form of repetition, prolongation, interjection, and pause. The type of stuttering mostly found is repetition. There is no characteristic of circumlocution stuttering. In addition to bringing up the types of individual characteristics, the utterances also show combinations of voice disorders.

This study focuses on the subalternism in Oodgeroo Noonuccal’s selected poems. The approach used in this research is post-colonial approach, which focused on the context of literary works contained the effects of colonialism both on societies and cultures. The result of this research shows that the selected poems of Oodgeroo are portraying the subalternism in the matter of the superior domination and the effects which illustrate the British superiority that lead to their domination against Aboriginal people as the weaker party and resulting the great predicaments for them. Woman as subaltern which show how Aboriginal women are forced to be slaves to serve and satisfy the lust of British colonists until the end of their lives. Lastly, the voiceless which show how the Aboriginal people must live surrounding by representations and misrepresentations of the privileged parties who hold domination that makes it more difficult for them to get their rights. This research also revealed that Oodgeroo is successfully speak for the Aboriginal people supported with the fact that she is an Aboriginal woman who write poetry to voice her people.

Speech abnormality is one of the effects of schizophrenia. Schizophrenia is a mental disorder caused by the imbalance of neurotransmitter levels in the brain. The brain has the most crucial role in language process, this affects the content of the message to be conveyed. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze speech abnormality of schizophrenic’s main character in Middle School movie. This study observed the types of speech abnormality of Rafe as the main character in the Middle School film. There were two objectives in this research; first, to identify the speech abnormality found in the Rafe’s utterances in the movie; second, to identify how Rafe’s utterances hindered the process of conveying information. Based on the analysis of speech abnormality, the finding revealed that Rafe experienced all types of speech bnormality. Based on Liddle's theory, these types included poverty of speech, weakening of goal, looseness, peculiar logic, peculiar sentence, peculiar word, preservation of ideas, and distractibility. This classification was based on Liddle's theory (2002). The researcher also used Carter's (2019) theory about languages influenced by the brain. The article concludes with a few suggestions to help people understand more clearly the types of schizophrenic speech abnormality.

This study investigated the improvement of students' abilities in identifying forms of noun phrases through textual enhancement, the difference in results between the high and low achievers in identifying forms of noun phrases through textual enhancement, and the relationship between textual enhancement and the ability of students who have high and low grades in identifying forms of noun phrases. The quantitative design was applied in order to obtain information. The project involved 44 EFL learners taking Intermediate English Grammar subject in one of Islamic universities in Malang, Indonesia. The participants were divided into 2 classes consisting of high and low achievers. The high achievers were the experiment group, and the low achievers were the control group. The results revealed that there was significant difference in the students’ achievement in noun phrase acquisition between those who were taught by using textual enhancement (experimental group) and those who were taught by not using textual enhancement (control group). Second, there was significant different achievement between the high achievers and the low achievers of control and experimental group in learning noun phrase. Finally, there was an interaction found between Textual Enhancement (TE) and students’ initial abilities (high achievers and low achievers).

<p>This research is conducted based on two purposes; they are to identify the types of expressive speech act found in the statuses of the Facebook users, and to explain the modes of expressive utterance used in the statuses. Therefore, the data source is the social network that is Facebook and the data are the statuses of the Facebook users. The data are collected by using observational method, followed by non-participant observational technique and taking-note technique. The data analysis is based on pragmatic identity method proposed by Sudaryanto (2015) which is also supported by the theory of the types of expressive speech act by Ronan (2015), and theory about the modes of utterance from Alwi, et al (2000). The analysis result shows that there are fourteen types of expressive speech act in the statuses. They are the expression of agreement, disagreement, apology, gratitude, sorrow (sadness), exclamation (complaint), volition (hope), anger, disappointment, encouragement, satire, annoyance, pride, and congratulation. Meanwhile, the modes of expressive speech act that are used consist of declarative mode, interrogative mode, and exclamative mode. The importance of this research is to reveal or show that there is something else the Facebook users want to say behind their statuses. Sometimes, they do not really state what they mean in their statuses. They use indirect way and there lies the use of expressive speech act which can be stated in different way.</p>

<p>To maintain the class alive, language choice used in the classroom plays an important role. So far, some English teachers have thought that they have to use English in the classroom during the learning process because it will encourage the learners to think and speak in English. In contrast, some research shows that the use of first language (L1) in the classroom will give positive benefits in the learners’ understanding to the subject learnt and responds during the discussion. This paper is intended to describe the positive effect and benefits of using L1 in the EFL classroom.</p><p align="justify"> </p>

<p align="justify">Technology in informal language learning is inevitably in this digital era since it offers opportunities and brings positive impacts on English language learners. Some related studies are concerned with a particular approach. Therefore, this study looks at a broader lens to investigate individuals' differences in developing a second language, and to what extent technology contributes to their second language acquisition by employing the transdisciplinary framework of Douglas Fir Group (2016). This case study involved two participants, and the data was collected through semi-structured interviews. The findings indicate that individual differences in learning English are influenced by social interaction (micro), environment (meso), and belief (macro). Technology is utilized not only as a medium of learning English but also as an identity construction. How ideology and technology are interrelated is further discussed.</p>

<p align="justify">This study investigates the application of Critical Discourse Analysis to the body care advertisements. In this study, the focus is on the discourse and the text of advertisement which create the ideological concept of beauty. The theory used is Fairclough’s three dimensional framework which concentrates on the textual features, discursive practice, and discourse as social practice. The discourses of body care advertisements which are analyzed are from three brands; Oriflame, Wardah and Nivea. Methodologically, descriptive qualitative is used in this study as the research design because the purpose of this study is to provide a deep analysis of the data. The findings reveal that the use of adjectives has two main functions, to describe the product and to describe the result after using the product. In addition, the presence of the verbs has function to describe the work and the quality of the products advertised. Furthermore, the most pronouns used in the advertisements is “your” which has function to directly point at the reader so the reader will fell engaged to the advertisement. In discursive techniques the finding shows there are nine techniques used to promote the products advertised. They are using natural resources ingredients or by giving clinical test proof, exposure of the existing content, self-representations, unrealistic representations through the exaggeration language, puffery which contain the discourse which is subjective without giving credible evidence, the use of emotive words, celebrity endorsement, the simple discourse used and the last is by offering discount sale on the product advertised. It is also found that the ideological concept of beauty is emerged by the limitation of the concept beauty on the discourse and image of beauty advertisements. The concept of beauty is divided into 3, the concept of eyes, ideal skin, and ideal lip. </p>
