Background: The properties of the material are altered when material size shifted towards nano-regime. This feature could be used for wastewater treatment process using model pollutant such as dyes. Recently, nanoparticles are synthesized by a green chemical route using different capping agents. This is the reason we adopt starch as green capping agent along with sol-gel method. Objective: To synthesize cobalt oxide nanoparticles by green chemical route and utilized it in degradation of dyes. Methods: Synthesis of cobalt oxide nanoparticles by sol-gel method using starch as a capping agent. The characteristics of surface modifications were investigated by UV-VIS, TEM, SEM, XRD and FTIR techniques. Results: Cobalt oxide nanoparticles synthesized and inhibited photocatalytic activity. Conclusion: Deactivation of photocatalytic activity due to complex nature of starch. This property can be used elsewhere as in light shielding applications to coat and protect surfaces in order to keep them cool and safe from damage as in the painting of vehicles, roofs, buildings, water tanks, etc.

A new type of photocatalyst is proposed on the basis of aero-β-Ga2O3, which is a material constructed from a network of interconnected tetrapods with arms in the form of microtubes with nanometric walls. The aero-Ga2O3 material is obtained by annealing of aero-GaN fabricated by epitaxial growth on ZnO microtetrapods. The hybrid structures composed of aero-Ga2O3 functionalized with Au or Pt nanodots were tested for the photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue dye under UV or visible light illumination. The functionalization of aero-Ga2O3 with noble metals results in the enhancement of the photocatalytic performances of bare material, reaching the performances inherent to ZnO while gaining the advantage of the increased chemical stability. The mechanisms of enhancement of the photocatalytic properties by activating aero-Ga2O3 with noble metals are discussed to elucidate their potential for environmental applications.

We present a cost- and time-efficient method for the controlled preparation of single phase La(IO3)3 nanoparticles via a simple soft-chemical route, which takes a matter of hours, thereby providing an alternative to the common hydrothermal method, which takes days. Nanoparticles of pure α-La(IO3)3 and pure δ-La(IO3)3 were synthesised via the new method depending on the source of iodate ions, thereby demonstrating the versatility of the synthesis route. The crystal structure, nanoparticle size-dispersal, and chemical composition were characterised via angle- and energy-dispersive powder X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy.

GdF3:Eu3+nanophosphors with hexagonal or orthorhombic structure have been succeeded to be selectively synthesized at room temperature for the first time via a simple soft chemical route. The structure and morphology of GdF3:Eu3+nanophosphors were controlled by using different fluoride precursors. Hexagonal GdF3:Eu3+nanocrystals were formed when NaBF4was used as a fluoride precursor, while orthorhombic GdF3:Eu3+nanocrystals were obtained with NaF or NH4F fluoride precursor. It was also experimentally revealed that hexagonal GdF3:Eu3+nanophosphors emitted essentially stronger Eu3+luminescence than orthorhombic ones did. The formation mechanism of GdF3nanocrystals and the possible reasons of the strong PL in hexagonal were discussed.
