AbstractThis paper presents the corrosion and inhibition behavior of heat-treated EN8 dual-phase steel with ferrite-martensite structure with pectin in 0.5 M sulphuric acid. The corrosion studies were performed using the weight loss method, electrochemical techniques such as potentiodynamic polarization measurements, and impedance spectroscopy. The study was done at different concentrations of pectin in the temperature range of 40 to 70 °C and immersion time of 1, 3, 5, and 7 h. The results showed that the inhibition performance of pectin has enhanced with an increase in pectin concentration and decreased with the temperature and time of exposure. From the weight loss study, highest inhibition efficiency of 76.43% was achieved at 5.0 g/L at 1 h of exposure at 40 °C. The maximum inhibition efficiency of 62% was obtained with 5.0 g/L of pectin at 40 °C by potentiodynamic polarization method. The energy, enthalpy, and entropy of activation and also thermodynamic parameters like free energy, enthalpy, and entropy of adsorption were assessed and discussed. Appropriate adsorption isotherm was fit to the obtained experimental outcomes and achieved Langmuir adsorption isotherm to be the best fit and obeyed physical adsorption. Surface analysis: scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction techniques, atomic force microscopy, and energy dispersive X-ray were done with and without the addition of pectin. The metal surface appears to be uniform and smooth in the presence of pectin and adsorption was confirmed by surface analysis.

The corrosion inhibition efficiency of a potential polynuclear Schiff base, (s)-2-(anthracene-9 (10H)-ylidene amino)-5-guanidinopentanoic acid (A9Y5GPA), on carbon steel (CS) in 1 M hydrochloric acid solution has been investigated using weight loss measurements, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and potentiodynamic polarization studies. The corrosion inhibition efficiencies of parent amine [(s)-2-amino-5-guanidinopentanoic acid] and parent ketone (anthracene-9 (10H)-one) on carbon steel in 1.0 M hydrochloric acid solution have also been investigated using weight loss studies. The electrochemical and weight loss data established that the inhibition efficiency on CS increases with the increase in the concentration of inhibitor, A9Y5GPA. The adsorption of A9Y5GPA obeys the Langmuir adsorption isotherm. Thermodynamic parameters (Kads, ΔGads0) were calculated using the adsorption isotherm. Activation parameters of the corrosion process (Ea, ΔH* and ΔS*) were also calculated from the corrosion rates obtained from temperature studies. Tafel plot analysis revealed that A9Y5GPA acts as a mixed-type inhibitor. A probable inhibition mechanism was also proposed. Surface morphology of the carbon steel specimens in the presence and absence of the inhibitor was evaluated by SEM analysis.

A new aromatic Schiff base with azo linkage (AS) has been synthesized and characterized by FT-IR, 1H NMR and 13C NMR spectroscopic techniques. The new compound (AS) has been evaluated as carbon steel corrosion inhibitor at different concentrations (0.005, 0.01, 0.02, 0.04 and 0.08 mM) and different temperatures (303 – 333 K). The corrosion inhibition efficiency was studied by potentiodynamic polarization and weight loss measurements. The effects of concentration and temperature on the inhibition efficiency were studied by potentiodynamic polarization studies, the results showed that increasing concentration of AS increases the inhibition efficiency while increasing the temperature decreases it, the highest corrosion inhibition efficiency, 93.9% was recorded with 0.08 mM of AS at 313 K in 1 M H2SO4. Weight loss measurements showed that the inhibition efficiency reached 97.1% in the presence of AS (0.08 mM) at 313 K. The adsorption process was found to obey Langmuir isotherm, and the adsorption thermodynamic parameters were studied. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) was used to confirm the results.

The inhibitive action of Saponinic extract of both Zygophylium album and Zygophylium Egyptian leaves which could serve as eco-friendly materials was investigated on the corrosion of N80 carbon steel in 1 M HCl solution. The techniques employed for the study were weight loss measurements. potentiodynamic polarization, electrochemical frequency modulation (EFM), and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The results obtained show that these extracts could serve as an effective inhibitor for N80 carbon steel. The percentage inhibition increases with increasing concentration of the inhibitor at 25 °C The percentage inhibitor efficiency above 90% was obtained at a concentration of 700 ppm for both extracts. The corrosion rates of steel and inhibitive efficiencies obtained from impedance and polarization measurements were in good agreement with those obtained from weight loss measurements. Potentiodynamic polarization studies clearly reveal that both extracts act as mixed-type inhibitors The study shows that the inhibition efficiency decreased with the temperature rise of the medium. Heat of adsorption and thermodynamic parameters and indicated that the adsorption process is mainly controlled by the physical adsorption process.

In this article, the authors have analysed the influence of quenching temperature (TQ) on the mechanical properties of a dual-phase steel with 0.094 % C and 0.53% Mn. In order to obtain a ferrite-martensite structure, specimens of this material have been the subjected to intercritical quenching that consisted of heating at 750, 770, 790, 810 and 830 °C, maintaining for 30 minutes and cooling in water. These specimens have then been subjected to metallographic analysis and tensile test in order to determine the volume fraction of martensite (VM) in the structure, ultimate tensile strength (Rm), the 0.2% offset yield strength (Rp0.2), the total elongation (A5) and the Rp0.2/Rm ratio.

Essential oil from Artemisia herba alba (Art) was hydrodistilled and tested as corrosion inhibitor of steel in 0.5 M H 2 SO 4 using weight loss measurements and electrochemical polarization methods. Results gathered show that this natural oil reduced the corrosion rate by the cathodic action. Its inhibition efficiency attains the maximum (74%) at 1 g/L. The inhibition efficiency of Arm oil increases with the rise of temperature. The adsorption isotherm of natural product on the steel has been determined. A. herba alba essential oil was obtained by hydrodistillation and its chemical composition oil was investigated by capillary GC and GC/MS. The major components were chrysanthenone (30.6%) and camphor (24.4%).

The inhibitory activity of the expired egg-white carbon steel (CS) extract in HCl solution was studied in this article. The extract was examined using FT-IR, and the surface was examined using a scanning electron microscope (SEM) and energy-dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX). Weight loss techniques at various temperatures were used to examine corrosion investigations (298, 308, 318, and 328 K), concentrations (100, 200, 400, and 800 mg. L−1) of extracts, and electrochemical measurements (potentiodynamic polarization (PDP) and impedance spectroscopy (EIS) at 25°C and different concentrations. Results. Results obtained through EIS demonstrated a maximal inhibition efficiency of 90% at an inhibitor concentration of 800 mg. L−1. Moreover, the findings of the potentiodynamic polarization indicated that egg-white extract was a mixed type of inhibitor and slowed down both cathodic and anodic reactions. For weight loss analysis, an inhibitory potency (89, 83, 77, and 71%) at various temperatures (298, 308, 318, and 328 K) was demonstrated, respectively. It indicates that the temperature rise contributes to a decrease in the resistance of the carbon steel. The adsorption of the expired egg-white extract was spontaneous with physisorption and chemisorption according to the Langmuir isotherm model, according to adsorption isotherm studies.

The Schiff base compounds N,N ′ -bis(salicylidine)-4,4 ′ –diaminostilbene(SDS) and N,N ′ -bis(salicylidine)-4,4 ′ -diamino azobenzene(SDA) were synthesized, and their molecular structure was determined by FT-IR and 1H NMR. The corrosion inhibitions of Schiff base compounds on aluminum alloy 2024 in 1 M hydrochloric acid were evaluated by potentiodynamic polarization, impedance techniques, weight loss method, and scanning electron microscopic technique. The potentiodynamic polarization (PDP) studies revealed that SDS and SDA compounds acted predominantly as cathodic inhibitors. The electrochemical impedance spectroscopic (EIS) parameters confirmed the adsorption of SDS and SDA molecules over the surface of aluminum alloy 2024 alloy by forming an inhibitive layer. The weight loss studies showed that the inhibition efficiency of these compounds increases directly with concentration and decreases with an increase in solution temperature and immersion time. The thermodynamic parameters were calculated to investigate the mechanism of corrosion inhibition. The SDA was found to be more effective than SDS and followed the Langmuir adsorption isotherm model. The scanning electron microscopy (SEM) results revealed that the deterioration of the alloy surface is minimal in the presence of an inhibitor. Both Schiff base molecules exhibited superior corrosion inhibition for aluminum alloy 2024 alloy in HCl medium.

Alkaloids as green inhibitors were extracted from three different plants Rhynchostylis retusa, Artimesia vulgaris, and Solanum tuberosum. Weight loss measurement in mild steel has been carried out in the presence and absence of green inhibitors individually in an acidic medium. Weight loss measurements at different temperatures are used to calculate thermodynamic parameters. The weight loss measurements at different concentrations are used to find adsorption isotherm and found that it obeys Langmuir adsorption isotherm with R2 values 1, 1, 0.996 for three inhibitors. Activation energy, enthalpy, and entropy of the three inhibitors have been calculated. It is found that the value of all these parameters increased in the addition of inhibitors. The free energy of the system is calculated and found (-17.46 kJ mol-1) indicating that the adsorption process is spontaneous and there is physical adsorption at the MS-Inhibitor interface.

Kata kunci: Korosi, Inhibitor, Theobroma cacao, Mild steel, Potensiodinamik Corrosion Inhibition Efficiency Mild Steel in Acid Media with Inhibitor Peels Extract of Cacao (Theobroma cacao)ABSTRACT Inhibition and adsorption properties of Theobroma cacao peel polar extract addition on corrosion inhibition efficiency of 0.3%C mild steel in hydrochloric acid solution for various exposuring time, extract concentration and working temperature were investigated using weight loss test method. Electrochemical polarization test was also conducted to confirm the effectiveness of inhibition. Infrared spectrum of the samples was also evaluated to reveal compounds of the extract which controll the inhibition process. Morphology and local composition of sample surfaces were respectively examined by scanning electron microscope  (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX). Thermodynamic parameters such as energy activation, enthalpy, entropy and change in the free energy were then determined using related data. The results show that the inhibition efficiency increases significantly up to 96.3% (by weight loss method) and 92.08% (Tafel) with the increase of TCPE content. The optimum efficiency is obtained at extract concentration of 2,5% for exposuring time of 768h. However, the efficiency decreases slightly with increasing working temperature in the range of 303K-323K. The polarization curve shows the inhibitor behaves as a mixed inhibitor with the dominant cathodic inhibition. The adsorption model is found to obey Langmuir adsorption isotherm. Surface condition is  improved due to the adsorption and then formation of thin layer film protection in the surface of the steel. The addition of extract of cacao peels into HCl is effective to minimize corrosion attack on the mild steel. Key words: Corrosion, inhibitor, Theobroma cacao peel, Mild steel, Potensiodinamic
