AbstractIn January 2016, the World Health Organization warned that Zika virus is “spreading explosively” in the Americas and that up to 4 million infections could be present worldwide within a year. Soon thereafter, some politicians and authors publicly advocated for quarantine of travelers returning from regions where mosquitoes carrying Zika virus are prevalent. The public health tool of quarantine can be used to prevent the spread of infection by restricting the movement of persons who have been exposed to a deadly disease that can be transmitted from person to person before symptom onset. With 80% of Zika virus infections being asymptomatic, no rapid test being available to detect the virus, and primary transmission being via the bites of certain mosquitoes, application of quarantine in this setting is not scientifically sound or practically feasible. Rather, public health interventions should focus on preventing bites from infected mosquitoes, counseling pregnant women on the risks of fetal microcephaly and other birth defects, and identifying patients with signs and symptoms of Guillain-Barré syndrome. As was seen in the Ebola virus disease outbreak of 2014, non-evidence-based factors can influence policy decisions. Public health experts must ensure that policy makers are informed that quarantine is not a scientifically sound approach for the control of Zika virus. Zika virus has emerged as a health issue of public importance in several countries. Given the increase of congenital anomalies, Guillain-Barré syndrome, and other neurological and autoimmune syndromes, the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization has made recommendations for healthcare facilities related to strengthening capacity and specialized care. Many nurses hold lead positions in health education, health promotion, and health surveillance in the identification, prevention, and management of Zika virus disease. This article briefly describes the history of Zika virus, clinical manifestation, and transmission. Our review examined public health concerns and identified potential strategies and direct responses for nurses. The article summarizes for nurses what is currently known about Zika virus, in the context of several limitations.

People began to become ill in late December 2019 in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China, and the illness was revealed to be a kind of pneumonia with unusual signs and symptoms. It was eventually discovered as a novel coronavirus, a virus that causes widespread sickness in animals and birds. World Health Organization (WHO) named this new viral disease coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern in January 2020.

The Ebola virus is currently one of the most virulent pathogens for humans. The latest major outbreak occurred in Guinea, Sierra Leone, and Liberia in 2014. With the aim of understanding the spread of infection in the affected countries, it is crucial to modelize the virus and simulate it. In this paper, we begin by studying a simple mathematical model that describes the 2014 Ebola outbreak in Liberia. Then, we use numerical simulations and available data provided by the World Health Organization to validate the obtained mathematical model. Moreover, we develop a new mathematical model including vaccination of individuals. We discuss different cases of vaccination in order to predict the effect of vaccination on the infected individuals over time. Finally, we apply optimal control to study the impact of vaccination on the spread of the Ebola virus. The optimal control problem is solved numerically by using a direct multiple shooting method.

Kata Kunci : SARS-CoV-2, Perforasi Kornea, APD, PCR, Eviscerasi   Introduction: Corona-Virus-Disease-2019 (COVID-19) is an important health problem that was defined as a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO). There are few reports on the association of SARS-CoV-2 with ocular abnormalities. In the pandemic era, management of ocular patients should be more careful to prevent transmission to medical staff. This report presenting the management of corneal perforation in confirmed COVID-19 patients. Method: The diagnosis was established based on history taking, physical and ophthalmology examination with other ancillary tests. Case Report : 54-year-old female patient referred with complaints of left eye bleeding since 17 hours ago. This patient never complaint about cough or fever 14 days before admission. From the ancillary test (complete blood count and chest x-ray are within normal limit, reactive rapid test for COVID-19, positive result of PCR nasopharynx).  The patient was diagnosed with spontaneous corneal perforation on the left eye with COVID-19 confirmed. The evisceration procedure with general anesthesia was performed with exceptional precaution. Operator and all operating room staff wear the 3rd level of personal protective equipment (PPE). The surgery was successfully done and the patient then hospitalized in the COVID-19 isolated room. Nasopharynx swab performs the day after surgery and the next day after the first swab. Two days after surgery, the patient was discharged and followed by a self-isolation procedure. Conclusion: This case report presenting corneal perforation management in confirmed COVID-19 patients should be performed under a firm scheme including physical and ophthalmological examinations, ophthalmology and COVID-19 diagnosis enforcement, ancillary test, surgery procedure, post-operative care and also PPE utilization. Background: World Health Organization (WHO) and other Health officials alert clinicians about a rare but severe inflammatory condition seen in children and linked to Corona Virus Disease 2019(COVID-19). The WHO is describing the condition as a multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) and is recommending clinicians to report those cases to get a better understanding of the disease and clinicians can learn more. Case Presentation: We are reporting the clinical course of the youngest case of COVID-19 related MIS-c; a two-week-old term neonate with COVID-19 infection and features suggestive of MIS-C, managed with intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG), pulse steroid, and interleukin-1 inhibitor (Anakinra). By reviewing the literature, our baby is the first neonatal case who has been diagnosed with MIS-C. Conclusion: COVID-19 infections in pediatrics are likely to present with a mild course; however, some may develop a hyperinflammatory syndrome. Pediatricians should be aware of such presentation, the clinical course, the management modalities, and inform parents and caregivers about common signs and symptoms. Anakinra may consider as effective second agent in (IVIG and steroid-refractory pediatric cases).

The purpose of this paper is to present a science-based narrative of the impact of the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) on the supply chains of the major commodities of Liberia. Scientific literatures from appropriate journals, newspapers, trade data of applicable ministries and governmental agencies, data on Ebola from websites of World Health Organization (WHO), Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO), Center for Disease and Control and Prevention (CDC), World Bank, the International Monetary Funds (IMF) and other relevant institutions are used extensively while also employing a market chain approach to represent the overall supply chains of these products. The review reveals, among others, the significant disruption to the flow of goods and the decrease in output of the main export commodities of Liberia. It also shows a fall in the real GDP growth rate of the Mano River Basin (MRB) countries during the Ebola years. The paper identifies that the specific mechanisms through which the supply chains were disrupted were as a result of fear and government’s regulation. Additionally, it provides a practical conduit for the diversification of the rubber industry. Given the complex web of supply chains of just a single product, this effort is in no way an exhaustive review on the impact of the EVD on supply chains of commodities dealt with herein, let alone the overall impact of EVD on the country as a whole. Obviously, this review is also limited in terms of scope and extent. This review is a useful introduction to investigators who might want to commit to research in this particular aspect of the impact of the EVD vis-a-vis its impact on supply chains in Liberia or on a broader level, the MRB Countries.

On 31st December 2019, the World Health Organization (WHO) was notified of a cluster of cases of pneumonia of unknown cause detected in the Wuhan, Hubei Province of China which eventually was named to be the Corona virus disease. In response to the rapid spread of the virus, WHO declared it a public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC) on 30th January, 2020. As per the quest to recharge the COVID-19 response power, there is seemingly little or no tangible plans to help permanently reorient Africa’s health care system. In the wake of widespread vaccine nationalism, donor countries continue to secure large quantities of vaccines from developers and manufacturers, causing global disparity in access to COVID-19 vaccines.
