The documentary material prepared by the League of Red Cross Societies for World Red Cross Day in 1966, includes an interesting study by Mr. Kai J. Warras, Executive Chairman of the League Development Programme Advisory Panel and Secretary–General of the Finnish Red Cross. In this monograph the author examines one of the most important problems facing the Red Cross today, at a time when this movement is expanding considerably and when newly created Societies are carrying out their tasks under conditions which are often difficult. We believe the publication of Mr. Warras' study is a useful means of drawing attention to problems which can only be solved by schemes such as the large scale development programme to be carried out under our universal emblem.

In 2021, Russia and Belarus are planning to hold a record number of exercises. In particular, large-scale strategic maneuvers "West-2021" will be held on the territory of Belarus. The focus on the western borders is not accidental: according to the military ministers of the two countries, the situation there is not calm. At the level of the CSTO, NATO is active in Eastern Europe in building up the missile defense system and increasing the intensity of military exercises. According to Secretary General of the organization Stanislav Zasya, the confrontational course of the alliance creates dangerous preconditions for a new arms race and the alliance is forced "to take adequate measures. Andrei Rusakovich, professor of Belarussian State University, explained in an interview with Eurasia.Expert why Russia and Belarus are increasing military cooperation and how cooperation within the CSTO fits into these tasks.

The author focuses on problems in the economy of the developing countries likely to arise as a consequence of mineral exploitation in the new territories. A general shortage of mineral resources, although predicted, should not uncritically be adopted as a sufficient explanation of the demonstrated interest of industrial enterprises in undertaking heavy investments in the new territories. The economic security claimed by institutions financing large-scale investments, may just as likely force the companies to seek options for long-term supplies from these areas, unhampered by the politically caused instabilities perceived in the Third World. This development may tend to push the developing countries into the role of subsidiary suppliers in the world market. The committees preparing the UN Conference on the Law of the Sea have so far taken no realistic measures to counteract this possibility, which may prove detrimental to the economies of several developing countries. The Conference will, in the opinion of the author, provide little but a settlement of disputed interests among the coastal states.

Over the last decades, agricultural co-operatives grew substantially in most developed and developing countries, often reaching dominant market positions. We inquire into the economic mechanism behind this growth, by elaborating on the relation between co-operative identity and co-operative benefits. We highlight the ability of agricultural co-operatives to co-ordinate large-scale production, to monitor work contributions and product quality, and to ensure economic independence of farmer members. Following the two principal streams in the economic literature, we distinguish between the conceptions of agricultural co-operatives as units of vertical integration and as firms characterized by common governance of collective entrepreneurial action and ability to reduce transaction costs and economic risk. We describe the financial and governance limitations of agricultural co-operatives while taking account of new co-operative models presenting institutional tools introduced to overcome these limitations. We conclude by suggesting directions for enhancing the role of co-operatives in agricultural and rural development.

Mr. Jean-Louis Fort, Secretary-General, left the International Committee at the end of last year. During the four years which he devoted to the institution, Mr. Le Fort rendered outstanding service, contributing to the improvement of management methods and the quest for new financial resources. He also played a major role in the field of co-operation between the ICRC and the League, particularly in the pooling of Red Cross resources for large-scale international relief operations.

The literature on the production of high-tech electronics in China—following a Silicon Valley model—focuses on either large-scale manufacturing or the role of start-ups and ‘makers’. The aim of this article is to turn to other kinds of spaces and work in the production of high-tech electronics. I focus here on three kinds of spaces in Shenzhen: the Huaqiangbei electronics market, small-scale factories and industrial design workshops. The electronics economy depends critically not just on ‘makers’ but on all kinds of other labour. In particular, it depends on lower middle-class and low-class work—devices made by small factories and shops, sold by small enterprises and designed for the less wealthy, especially in developing countries. The human networks that connect these individuals are critical to the size, speed and density of the markets, allowing devices to be built and shipped rapidly, for parts and customers to be available.

Solar refrigeration may have applications in both developed and developing countries. Applications in developing countries such as air-conditioning, vaccine storage or large scale food preservation have been the subject of scientific research. Ammonia-water based system has good COP but generally vapor absorption refrigeration system requires high generator temperature and high circulating ratio aided by a powerful pump. Our objective was to trivialize the role of circulating ratio and simultaneously achieve higher COP. A prototype model was designed, fabricated in laboratory using scrap material and tested; performance of the unit has been analyzed. A parabolic solar trough was used as a source of heat. Various components were modeled in computer and analyzed using ANSYS. The performances and effectiveness of the unit was studied by determining refrigeration effect (RE) and   coefficient of performance (COP).

This paper attempts to describe the economic role of public enterprise and explain the general reasons for privatizing public enterprise in the developing countries. And this paper attempts to draw some issues involved in the privatization of public enterprise, particularly considering the case of telecommunications sector in Korea. Future prospects are briefly mentioned as conclusion.
